Wearing the purdah?

Can anyone tell me on what terms should a woman decide to wear purdah. What are all the reasons and so on..

As far as i know there are no terms but muslim woman are encouraged to wear the purdah or niqab and the reason is to be modest, to protect yourself from being a object of sex and not display your beauty to the whole world but to your husband and your mahram...
