I just thought i'd share my thought on questions that really annoy me, and feel like whining, maybe someone else out there will understand ;)

*(after just meeting someone for the first time)-So brother what MADE you convert? -(its a long story!! no1 made me!!)

*Do you tell your family about islam? -(Of course I try to!!)

*Why don't you convert your family? (ermm not that easy!!)

*Did you ever drink before you were a muslim? (None of your business!)

*How many girlfriends did you have before? (!!!!!!!!)

*Do you ever miss pork/alcohol? (err no do me a favour!puke!)

there are lots more but NUMBER1 irritating question has to be-

*Do you think you'll ever change back? (arghhh!)

Im not that annoyed just sometimes it does my head in, but i suppose people are just interested..
Let me know what you think hehe..

hahah, very funny!! :D

I guess it'd be annoying getting those questions asked again and again ... but I'd sooo ask a few of those questions :SMILY288:

But only if I knew the person a bit better and became good friends. Definitely not straight after meeting the person.

The last question I wouldn't ask though ("ever change back" one) as I'd be too scared of the response.. if the reply is "maybe".. I'll feel like it will be my fault for asking all the previous annoying questions and making whoever change their mind, lol.

yeh i think the last one is soo annoying because to every new muslim islam is a 1000% serious thing intheir life, and theyr sure that what theyre doin is right.. and soemtimes they are goin thru so much behind the scenes, that people dont even realise, and just the question that theyr gna 4got everything after makin so much sacrifice is just insulting..
but yeh its a fair question...i suppose........... hehe

salaam aleikum wa rahmatulahi wa barakatuh,

i know what you mean, although i don't get annoyed if people ask me what made me revert, that can put people up to thinking, or strenghten their imaan. The rest i can really understand, i was just talking to sister yesterday about these things, some people really aren't ashamed to ask about my private life, my husband, or my life before reverting to my fitrah. sometimes even after a while you think you know a sister and she starts asking me about things between me and my husband, not even for information or something, just curiousity, people ask to much, this causes fitnah, wallahi we need to stay away from people like this. Not the ones you're talking about, they are probibly just enthousiastic, but i understand it's annoying at times. What also a very irritating question is that i get: Did you become moroccan??????:SMILY45: NO!

LOL

^^

As funny as reading the above questions are (like the alcohol one, I can imagine me asking "so what's it like to get wasted?!!" .. jokes), I've figured that the next time I meet a new Muslim and they tell me they are a new Musilm, I will respond with the "Mashallah" line and the "welcome to the family", and stop right there with the comments. Lol.

And then I'll start my discussion on "I can't believe Mossad is doing such a good job of blaming the Muslims on their best success story ever --- 9/11".

"Really?"

"Oh yeah..the "war on terror" should be renamed the "war on any country that Israel doesn't like".

"Wow, so what's up the funny haircut?"

"Hey man, look here, there's no need for ... it looks funny? :("

Ok ok, back to the main point, I'll keep in mind to do my best to not ask annoying questions to new Muslims :D.

Salams.

Hehe this is so true in some parts. I find it's usually with working class white people though and the "chavs". If your skin colour is brown then you're (ignorantly) labelled as a "paki" no matter where your from or what religion you follow! I guess there's a similar thing in the US where when an American thinks of a Muslims they get a picture of arabs and the desert in their head! Just shows what the media can do to the masses.

Asalamualikum,

It is really good for non-muslims to question 'why' this and that. I was really impressed when I heard someone ask a muslim why he did not drink beer, and he said that it says in the Qur'an not to drink alchohol.

My impression of this muslim was that he was strong in his faith, much more than people of other faiths. Because he refused to disobey what the Qur'an said, this showed something that made my curiosity even more about Islam.

Questions are good to ask, because they can open doors to understanding. However, when someone is just nosey and wants to know your private business, this can be very annoying...so there are pros and cons to asking questions about 'why' this and that about being muslim.

even i was born Muslim..Alhamduillah 4 blessing of islam..that's my reply..

*(after just meeting someone for the first time)-So brother what MADE you convert? -(its a long story!! no1 made me!!)

*Do you tell your family about islam? -(Of course I try to!!)

*Why don't you convert your family? (ermm not that easy!!)

All this Question..have one reply..

the reply should be is.. give them small intro about islam.. as Why islam ? ...
Always don't forgive Make that by using The Methodology of Giving Da'wah ...

u should also know that.. Allah saied :

Let there be no compulsion in religion: .....(2:256)

==================

*Did you ever drink before you were a muslim? (None of your business!)

*How many girlfriends did you have before? (!!!!!!!!)

if i do these sin before converted to islam..All forgive me..

Due to..when i convetto islam = Forgiveness for All Previous Sins

===========
*Do you ever miss pork/alcohol? (err no do me a favour!puke!)

i give my self the glad tidings of the hadeeth of the Prophet :saw: (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “Whoever gives up something for the sake of Allaah, Allaah will compensate him with something better than that.” (Classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani – may Allaah have mercy on him – in Hijaab al-Mar’ah al-Muslimah)

===========================
due to i know that ..it's Haraam..

If you say that it is open to speculation

because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“O you who believe! Intoxicants, gambling, al-ansaab [animals that are sacrificed on stone altars for idols], and al-azlaam [arrows for seeking luck or decision], are an abomination of Shaytaan’s handiwork. So avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be successful. Shaytaan wants only to excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allaah and from al-salaah (the prayer). So will you not then abstain?”

[al-Ma’idah 5:90-91]

, then we look at the general meaning of the phrase So avoid (strictly all) that (abomination), and say that alcohol should be avoided in all cases, whether it is drunk or applied to the skin, or used in some other way. If we look at the reason why, Allaah says, “Shaytaan wants only to excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allaah and from al-salaah (the prayer). So will you not then abstain?”
===============================

*Do you think you'll ever change back? (arghhh!)

the relpy should be..

i love My Lord and The sign that loves is that he gives priority to what Allaah loves even if it goes against his own desires, and i hate what Allaah hates, even if it is something to which he is inclined.. i take as friends those who are friends of Allaah and His Messenger and i take as enemies those who are the enemies of Allaah and His Messenger. i follow His Messenger :saw: (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), follows in his footsteps and accepts his guidance .All of these signs are conditions of this love, and it cannot be imagined that this love can exist without any of these conditions.

The Messenger of Allaah :saw: (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“There are three things which if a person finds them, he has found the sweetness of faith: when Allaah and His Messenger are dearer to him than all else; when he loves a person for no other reason than for the sake of Allaah; and when he hates to return to kufr after Allaah has saved him from it as he would hate to be thrown into fire.” (Narrated from the hadeeth of Anas ibn Maalik).

i'd like to say that i like it if people ask the question on what made me convert, the first thing i replie is always, Allah swt ofcourse and then the rest of my story. I see that it has a great effect on (in my case) sisters, and i also feel the same way when a new muslima is entering our umma. It's been five years ago for me now, and at times when my imaan gets weak, and a converted muslima is telling her story, i can feel the same way as her, how it was for me 5 years ago, and that can really strenghten my imaan and my greatfullness towards Allah swt, so it is very important to answer kindly. So brothers and sisters, don't stop asking questions... :blackhijab:

asalam aalaikum,
i believe the way one answers such question is very important. one should keep in mind that the goal is to enlighten the questioner about Islam. this can only be done by having knowledge.
i have heard many questions and heard intelligent answers from knowledgeable people.
may allah increase us in beneficial knowledge. amin

Assalamu Alaykum,

yes indeed those are silly questions especially if they are not asked in a tactful way.

And of course, all sins and past is wiped clean for a New Muslim, we should never judge them. Secondly, all the good things that person did before becoming Muslim are kept on their record. Elhamdulillah

:salam2: sister Aaminah and welcome to the website :)

and the very next question is can i cook aandi and make roti

lol do they really ask this? I'm still useless at these things :tongue:

I suppose the main question that gets asked is "why?" What was the reason for you reverting. They want to hear your revertion stories, which I must say, interest me too!

The main thing I get from them is I get ideas on what makes people revert, which gives me better tools for when I'm talking to a non-Muslim about Islam. I've found one of the main reasons people revert is because of the simplicity of Islam. They understand there arn't any silly beliefs about thousands of gods and there arn't any complicated and difficult to understand ideologies - this is what attracts them. If only people would actually study Islam, they would come to know how much sense it makes.

salaam aleikum wa rahmatulahi wa barakatuh,

yes people ask me too, what nationality my husband is, especially the 'raised-as-muslims'. I always answer: he is nationalityless(?) (i mean he has no nationality) he is a muslim. A lot of people really think islam is just for arabs.

Even i was born Arabic Muslim..but i know there is No nationality in islam..

i.e All Muslim is one Nation..

Allah send the last messenger prophet , Muhammad to All (humans and jinns)

yeah.. islam is a universal (Messenger) ..Men and jinns

I have only created Jinns and men, that they may serve Me.(51:56)

"O ye assembly of Jinns and men! came there not unto you Messengers from amongst you, setting forth unto you My Signs, and warning you of the meeting of this Day of yours?" They will say: "We bear witness against ourselves." It was the life of this world that deceived them. So against themselves will they bear witness that they rejected Faith. (6:130)

======================
[29] Behold, We turned towards thee a company of Jinns (quietly) listening to the Qur-an: when they stood in the presence thereof, they said, "Listen in silence!" when the (reading) was finished, they returned to their people, to warn (them of their sins).

[30] They said, "O our people! we have heard a Book revealed after Musa, confirming what came before it: it guides (men) to the Truth and to a Straight Path.

[31] "O our people, hearken to the one who invites (you) to Allah, and believe in him: He will forgive you your faults, and deliver you from a Penalty Grievous

[32] "If any does not hearken to the one who invites (us) to Allah, he cannot frustrate (Allah's Plan) on earth, and no protectors can he have besides Allah: such men (wander) in manifest error."

(46:31)

============================
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

[1] Say: It has been revealed to me that a company of Jinns listened (to the Qur-an). They said, ' We have really heard a wonderful Recital!

[2] 'It gives guidance to the Right, and we have believed therein: we shall not join (in worship) any (gods) with our Lord.

[3] `And exalted is the Majesty of our Lord: He has taken neither a wife nor a son.

[4] 'There were some foolish ones among us, who used to utter extravagant lies against Allah;

[5] `But we do think that no man or spirit should say aught that is untrue against Allah.

(72:1-5)
...........

[13] `And as for us, since we have listened to the Guidance, we have accepted it: and any who believes in his Lord has no fear, either of a short (account) or of any injustice.

[14] `Amongst us are some that submit their wills (to Allah), and some that swerve from justice. Now those who submit their wills; they have sought out (the path) of right conduct

(72:13-14)

................

Allah saied:

We have not sent thee but as a universal (Messenger) to men, giving them glad tidings, and warning them (against sin), but most men understand not. (34:28)

===============

Allah saied:

O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full Knowledge and is well-acquainted (with all things). (49:13)

And verily this Brotherhood of yours is a single Brotherhood. And I am your Lord and Cherisher: therefore fear Me (and no other). (23:52)

The Believers are but a single Brotherhood... .(49:10)..

And hold fast, all together, by the Rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves; ....
(3:103)

======================
finally..Alhamduillah 4 blessing of islam..

Alhamduillah 4 be Muslim..Alhamduillah to born Muslim..

the religion of Allah is El islam

Surely the (true) religion with Allah is Islam, and those to whom the Book had been given did not show opposition but after knowledge had come to them, out of envy among themselves; and whoever disbelieves in the communications of Allah then surely Allah is quick in reckoning. (3 :19 )

and the religion accepted by Allah is El islam

And whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted from him, and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers. ( 3 :85)
