Salaam,

Western clothing does not necesarily equal tight, immodest clothing. As long as your clothing is not tight and still modest you are abiding by the Islamic outline. I wear western clothing but am also hijabi. My clothing are loose and covers everything so I have obeyed the principle.

You state you are a doctor, may I ask what specialty? I am in med school and have seen both men and women unclothed (dissection lab and performing physicals) but cleared it with a Mufti first. As long as it was for halaal purposes such as learning medicine it was allowed.

If you see a woman wearing immodest clothing then do what the Quran commands and lower your gaze. That way you can protect yourself from sin.

Why are you coming to the UK ? InshaAllah, I hope not to stay and work here. Many of us want get out of UK and make hijrah to Muslims lands!

THere is nothing wrong with wearing trousers or Western Clothes. As long as you dont wear them tight or reveal your Awrah.

Im not sure where in UAE you live either, but you have many Western people there too, British, European and American people. In UK, they wear like that in Summer time.

asalamu alaykum

In some situations it could be allowed, even a sin not to! For example, in emergency medical situation etc

If someone is in car accident and they half burnt alive, I think people will not care if it is man or woman doctor there.

Although, normally it is best to have someone from your own gender and preferably Muslim see you.

Thank you brother Masboot. I was in quite an argument on another board once because some brothers were declaring it haram for me to even learn male anatomy from a book. They went on declaring their own personal fatwas stating the males couldn't learn female anatomy. I explained that there may be a time when their wife shows up to the ER and may be experiecing a deadly medical emergency (such as a ruptured ectopic pregnancy) and there will be only male doctors.

I told them that basic female anatomy will be crucial at this moment to diagnose and treat but if we lived the way they suggested then she would die due to needless ignorance. I also told them INTENT is the all important issue in this case and doctors couldn't care less about a nude body but rather fixing whatever is broke. These guys have obviously never seen someone kneeled over vomiting on their shoes or bleeding profusely from a stomach wound...the last thing on your mind is how "sexy" their body is.

Salaam,

Common Sense sounds like the issue to me.

Agreed. I am a Western Muslim. Before I was muslim I didnt dress 'naked' at all and neither do my non-muslim sister or mother. Ok so the way I dressed didnt entirely conform with hijab but it was no where near 'naked' ! In my office I work right now it is full of 'Western women' - none of whom appear 'naked' and the tight or revealing clothing is mainly only on those young teenagers.....Western non-muslim women do not conform to Hijab in the Islamic sense when they dress but not many walk around 'naked'....some do wear too tight trousers or short skirt BUT NOT ALL and I have a feeling its not as 'naked' as you have been led to believe brother. In non-muslims circles there is still some moral and protocol as to what is too little or too tight etc etc..it may not fit Islamic standards but its not naked.....besides, as the sister said, lower your gaze should you unfortunatley come across a woman dressed inappropriately.

Sorry if I offend you - you did ask to be corrected.

hope you enjoy your time in the UK insha'allah - make sure you are within or near a muslim community so you can get to know some other Muslims insha'allah.

Wa alaykum salam, uncommon sense :p because it is from Islam.. sometimes, what we see as "common" or normal is not correct. Sorry, for being so literal, but I thought need point that out if there any non-Muslims reading inshaAllah. As often, we do have guest readers, alhamdulillah.

Islam is so beautiful and easy, even Allah has told us we can eat Pork if it was life-death situation , a necessity- This shows how Islam is not like how some Non-Muslim or even Muslim percieve.

OFten, Non-Muslims taunt Muslims about pigs and make silly jokes. They do not know that we see it just as an animal. A dirty one, that we dont want to eat !! But, at same time we dont "hate" or are so crazy about it. Its a simple animal. -- In Islamic Shari'ah there is rule that, In cases of necessity, haraam things are permitted.

Likewise, a slightly different issue is with fasting and praying, these are obligatory actions and Allah makes easy for those who can not do so due to health reasons or even for travellers.

So, to a lot of people who not Muslim, Islam might seem strict, but in reality it is not so especially once you know why we do these actions and the beauty of worshipping our Lord in the right way and following his beloved Prophet Muhammad :saw: and having correct belief in all the Prophets and messengers that came before him.

I'm an English revert (we're a rare breed... marry us while we're still available :p), so the kind of clothing some Western women wear doesn't really bother me as I've grown up with it (I was born in the age of the mini (both versions) and grew up through fashions that included hot pants and ra-ra skirts). As various sisters have said, it's rare you actually see women in really revealing clothing (summer is the most likely time).
