defending islam and the prophet ( saaws )

very often i am puzzled by those muslims that believe that they can properly practice islam by using the quran as their only source. they completely reject the hadith and sunnah of Muhammad ( PBUH ). yes, the quran is the word of ALMIGHTY ALLAH SWT, but the sunnah of our most beloved prophet MUHAMMAD ( PBUH )compliments and explains and details the most holy ayats of the quran al kareem.

we as muslims know that we must perform the hajj, zakat, sawm, salah, and profess faith in islam; but the hadith and sunnah tell us how to perform these things. without the hadith we cannot truly practice islam. that’s why it’s so troubling to me when some muslims make a mockery of the hadith by saying “ it’s only a sunnah. “ etc. AISHA ( RA ) described our beloved prophet ( SAAWS ) as a walking quran. therefore how can we be so nonchalant in following his ways? those that have negative attitudes towards the hadith, have led many to stop coming to the defense of our prophet ( SAAWS ). we are supposed to love him more than we love ourselves or our families. yet day in and day out, our prophet, the best of creation has been attacked, and many of us have remained silent. we must understand that when our beloved and noble prophet MUHAMMAD ( SAAWS) is attacked, it is as if all of the ummah has been attacked.

am i calling for muslims to go to extremes? no. but what i am calling for is for all muslims to do there best in defending the prophet’s honor. if you have watched any of the major news channels, you will see that the prophet of ALLAH SWT has been attacked several times in one day. take time out to listen to any conservative radio program, and you will hear the most blasphemous of things being said about islam, ALLAH AZZA WA JALL, and MUHAMMAD ( SAAWS ). unfortunately i have always been on the road while listening to these shows and i was unable to call. but i know that not every muslim listening to that show was driving too. one man was on the show bashing islam so terribly and not one muslim came to Islam's defense. with that being said, i wonder if the current struggles of our brothers and sisters in IRAQ, AFGHANISTAN, KASHMIR, DARFUR, BOSNIA, KOSOVO, CHECHNYA, PALESTINE and wherever we muslims are suffering, is through our own fault. because so many of us have not defended islam and our prophet ( PBUH ) and have not returned to the foundation of our deen.

i ask all muslims to defend islam and our prophet. this isn’t like sticking up for the NEW YORK YANKEES or MANCHESTER UNITED. this is about defending AL-HAQQ and MUHAMMAD IBN ABDULLAH ( SAAWS ) THE MERCY TO THE WORLD.

I listened to a lecture by Imam Anwar al-Awlaki recently which deals with defending the prophet :saw: and how the sahaba radiallahu anhum would defend him. The lecture focuses primarily on verbal attacks on the prophet :saw: and how it is relevant to todays events. This lecture was made after Anwar was released from prison and you can feel a certain anger in his voice over recent events such as the target practice of a quran by a US sniper that happened a while ago which he talks about.

There's a little play button near the top which you have to press to hear the lecture

i just don't understand how they can believe that they're properly practicing islam when abandoning the sunnah. i think that there are certain hadith that they don't like, so by denying the need of the hadith, they feel free to do whatever they want. but who are they fooling?

Jazak Allahu Khair for this post, brother. As a revert, I am guilty of concentrating predominantly on Al Qur'an as the undisputed word of Allah and not giving the time to hadith that I should. I think sometimes, and I am being honest and may Allah forgive me for any wrongdoing, sometimes something is lost a little when Muslims are not united in saying which hadith are 100% legitimate and which are not. This is where it gets confusing for reverts, especially.

Please let us make an effort to help educate ourselves in hadith so we can obey wholeheartedly the mandate from Allah to follow Qur'an and Sunnah. I am asking those who were born Muslim and educated in Islam to be patient with reverts. The reason why so many of us left Christianity is because the Bible is not the word of God and the Qur'an is, without question, which has left us in awe, Subhan'Allah.

Let's help each other, for the sake of Allah, in a positive manner :)

Jazak Allahu Khair.

the more and more you take the time to read the hadith the more and more you'll build a love for the prophet muhammad ( saaws ) and your imaan increases by the faith of the companions of the prophet ( saaws ). the prophet ( saaws ) has shared his wisdom with us in nearly every aspect of our lives. truly he is a mercy. when the enemies of islam attack the prophet ( saaws ) with disparaging remarks or images, they fail to break my imaan. instead they increase my imaan and i search and study hard to be ready to discredit them.

Also, I may have mentioned it before but a sister friend of mine told me about a website called rasoulallah.net that has a wealth of information about Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him. This is especially interesting for reverts like myself.
