I think Ahmed Deedat uses the King James Version or The Standard Revised Version...i quote this from him
"The Roman Catholic Bible was published at Rheims in 1582, from Jerome's Latin Vulgate and reproduced at Douay in 1609. As such the RCV (Roman Catholic Version) is the oldest Version that one can still buy today. Despite its antiquity, the whole of the Protestant world, including the "cults"* condemn the RCV because it contains seven extra "books" which they contemptuously refer to as the "apocrypha" i.e. of DOUBTFUL AUTHORITY. Notwithstanding the dire warning contained in the Apocalypse, which is the last book in the RCV (renamed as "Revelation" by the Protestants), it is "revealed"

Akhi..as far as I remember (from a research I made for a class project)..The Catholic Church (overall) uses *The Latin Vulgate*..

Roman Catholics *tend* to use that..and if they use the English translation of it they use the *Douay Rheims* (hopefully I spelled it right)

non-Roman Catholics..*tend* to use..The New American Bible & The New Jerusalem Bible..

I do not know if that makes them different in "doctrine"..as I have not looked into that issue in-depth and I do not want to give you information based on what I remember from 2 years ago..but in my research I found that each uses the bibles listed above *for the most part*..because some followers of The Church do use different ones according to personal preference..local church..region..language..etc. and sometimes they use *multiple ones* so that would perhaps cause conflict in belief

It's a bit of a mess as you can see..so you have to ask the question on an individual basis to be *sure* I would think..

But this whole thing makes you glad you can go from China to California..walk into any masjid..ask for a Qura'an..and you get the *same exact one* every single time doesn't it?!..alhamdulillah for the blessing of Islam!

I hope I helped you akhi..

Salam brother Shaheer.

I am under the impression that all Catholics use the douay version that contains 73 books. However, I am sure that some of our brothers/sisters who came into Islam from Catholicism will clarify this for us.

It seems that they pick the best of versions in translation and collection of books (this is according to my understand)..supposedly the Douay is the most authentic of bible versions..so I assume they decree it for their churches and so on..but I am confused as to why some prefer to use other versions...the whole thing makes one glad that they do not have to go through it themselves..unless that person is in a situation like yours where you're making da'awa..may Allah reward you for it in the dunya and the akhirah..ameen!

I was born in a catholic family and then we all (except dad)became christians( also called new born christians , evangelics, protestants), so I've been there done that!

The Catholics (which use the Bible with 73 books) are basically the ones that believe in the Pope, nuns, Saints, and would pray to the Virgin Mary as well as the Trinity. Their churches have statues, confessions, they baptise the babies and their leaders are called priest, bishop, and others and they are normally men, not allowed to marry) They don't seem to believe in a particular way of salvation.

In the other hand. the Christians(which use the Bibles with only 66 books) are the ones that basically follow or at least read "more carefully" their Bible, so they know God doesn't like images and also they get baptised when adults (as Jesus-A.S-)They don't believe in the pope, or the Catholic church and "some" of their practices, because all that is not Biblical, according to them. Most of their churches have music and their leader is normally called Pastor and they can marry. They believe you can only be saved by accepting Jesus (A.S) as your saviour.

May Allah guide us all.
