Dialogue with iblees (laknatullah)

Hard Rock Moslem

I'm your brother
Brothers and sisters,

Assalamu'alaikum.

Do you remember, sometime ago I asked you guy apparently there is a story about The Prophet (Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) had a dialogue with iblees (laknatullah)? I raised this question after hearing about it during one of the Friday sermon. Now, all of you said there is no such thing happen (the dialogue) and no hadith about it. I found the following link, hope you guys can go through it and let me know what do you think?

The chain of narrators Hadrat Sulaimaan bin Waarid and Hadrat Muhammad bin Ishaaq from Hadrat Sa’eed bin Musayyib that Hadrat ‘Urwah bin Zubair said: "We came out with our master the holy Prophet towards the graveyard in Madeenah al Munawwarah and with us were Hadrat ‘Abdullaah bin Mas’ood and Hadrat ‘Abdullaah bin ‘Abbaas . When we went behind the (Jannat ul) Baqee’, we heard a sound like that of a chain. We asked: ‘What is this sound O RasoolAllaah ? ' He said: ‘It is the Iblees, enemy of Allaah , in his jewelry and adornments’. Hadrat ‘Alee respectfully submitted ‘O Rasoolallaah order him to become visible to us’. Said the holy Prophet to the Iblees ‘Become visible to Hadrat ‘Alee ibn Abee Taalib otherwise you will be destroyed today’. Said (The narrator Hadrat ‘Urwah bin Zubair) ‘Hence the Iblees became visible to all of us so that all of us saw Iblees, old and one eyed and the length of his good eye was as long as his nose. On his head was a crown hanging from which were adornments of jewels etc. and around his waist was tied a girdle in different ways. In his hand was a bell. He said: ‘Salaam upon you Muhammad ’. Then the holy Prophet did not respond to his salaam. Then the Iblees said: ‘Allaah’s Salaam be upon you’. Then our master, the holy Prophet said: ‘It is as you say (Meaning it is from Allaah and not from you); and you are an enemy of Allaah and of your own self.'
Asked Hadrat RasoolAllaah What is it that I see around your waist, the girdle?
Replied the Iblees This is the girdle of desires for the world. I make these desires appear in the hearts of the human beings till such time as they do not give up any desire over which they have control.
Asked Hadrat RasoolAllaah What is this bell in your hand?
Replied the Iblees When I see two people quarreling, I shake the bell between them; then they both do bad things and tell lies and slander.
Asked Hadrat RasoolAllaah What do you say about myself and say about my friends (companions)?
Replied the Iblees You ( ) are Ma’soom (Innocent). I am never close to you , I mean to say I do not have the power to come close to you. And Aboo Bakr never obeyed in the times of Jaahiliyyah, how can he obey me in his state of Islaam! However ever since the day Hadrat ‘Umar accepted Islaam, I run from his domination and power of his Deen. And about Hadrat ‘Uthmaan , I feel ashamed with him as do the angels in heavens. And with Hadrat 'Alee I am completely unable to keep myself safe from him, I am always dominated (By him). The rest of your companions when there is an encounter, they dominate once and obey me one tenth of one. I am never separated from them even for one batting of their eye lashes except when they do the Dzikr of Allaah (Note from our Shaikh Rahmatullaah ‘Alaih: Most of the holy companions (May Allaah be pleased with them), were always busy and occupied with the Dzikr of Allaah And some of them some times being busy with essential expeditions, remained excusably without the Dzikr with their tongues and remembrance of the Lord; and yet never away from the obedience and reverence of Allaah and His Rasool , even for a moment. They were also busy with the Amr wa Nahee (enjoining of the good and prevention of the evil) according to the Sharee’ah. This adherence to the enjoining of the good and prevention of the evil is equal to the Dzikr of Allaah If some one ignored Allaah how would he perform Amr wa Nahee. Therefore there was no interference or deceit of the Iblees with the honor of all the Sahaabah Kiraam, RidwaanAllaah Ta’alaa Ajma’een).
Asked Hadrat RasoolAllaah How many are your enemies?
Replied the Iblees I have 15 enemies. You are the first one.
The Honorable master the holy Prophet was pleased to find this because indeed the person who has the most hatred for the Iblees, has the most love for Allaah . . . To be continued InshaAllaah Ta’alaa.

Baraka Allaho Feek for your sense of responsibility akhi..and jazaka allah khair for your time looking up information...I read the story last night and was too tired to search further into it because I visited one of the links you provided and I read *qaddasa allah sirraho al-'azeez* after the name of a person..and I thought to myself that this is a trait of a deviated group...

Today I looked up information about the story...and I found out that it is NOT AUTHENTIC..that it is falsely attributed to Rasulullah (saaws) and everything in the story NEVER EVER took place...

I had to reword my search many times before I could find the information I found in Arabic..in English..and alhamduliallah I found a good link..that is exactly the same..which will inshallah be of benefit to you and all the other brothers and sisters..and I inshallah will put its contents in the reply to follow *on its own* so it's clear for all to read (along with a link to the original source)

Dear scholars, recently a paper was circulated. One of my friends gave it to me and advised me to copy and distribute it so as to gain some reward. The paper includes a hadith speaking of a meeting between the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Iblis. According to the hadith, the Prophet asked Iblis some questions and Iblis answered. What is the reality about this hadith? Is it fabricated or authentic? What is the responsibility of the person who disseminates this story among people?

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear questioner! Thank you for your question and the confidence you place in our service and we pray to Allah to enable us render this service purely for His Sake.

A Muslim should be intelligent and not be ready to believe any story or narration without referring to the authentic references of Islam and making sure of what has been passed to him.

As for the story you referred to, it is a fabricated one and has no basis in the authentic books of Hadith or any other authentic references of Islam. Such a meeting never happened. The hadith you referred to is a collection of some statements from some other hadiths, some authentic and some not.

The story in full is not authentic and is totally fabricated. Hence, it is not permissible to transmit it or propagate it among people.

Focusing on this issue, we cite what Imam Ibn Taymiyah stated in his Al-Fatawa Al-Kubra:

"This is a totally fabricated hadith. There is no mention of such a hadith in any of the authentic books of Islam, nor in the books of hadith. Whoever comes to know this should never transmit that story afterwards. If he insists on transmitting it, after knowing that it is fabricated, he is to be punished for this and he is sinful".

In fact, the person who fabricated that story collected some statements from some authentic hadiths and some other statements from other hadiths that were classified from weak to fabricated.

That is why some of the words in that fabricated hadith look genuine. However, the whole story, that is, the meeting between the Prophet and Iblis, is fabricated. It is mere lies and slander and is not mentioned by any considered Muslim scholar."

P.S. Brother Hard Rock I think a talk with the person who made the sermon containing this story deserves a visit from you..as you need to sit them down and show them the proof that this is a *fabrication*..and inshallah you will be able to do that soon..also I found exact directions on where to find the fatwa by Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (ra)..it is in *section 18, page 350* of the book the fatwa is taken from

Salaam,

1st - thanks for the post brother HardRockMuslim may Allah reward you for your good intentions.

Sister a_muslimah (as always) thank you for the clarification but I wanted to know what the above (in bold) means? What deviated group are you taling about? Just curious.

I also wanted to point out to people to be careful that in Britain there is a satellite TV channel called Islamic TV which is run by the Qadianis - a deviated sect in Islam. To read more about this deviated sect click here.

It's my pleasure akhi..and when literally translated the bolded phrase would be:

"May Allah keep holy his cherished secret"

This is a common saying amongst Shias & Sufis as well..as they believe their so-called scholars have a "secret knowledge" directly inspired by Allah (swt)..hence they supplicate that Allah (swt) keeps "holy" their knowledge which they symbolize as being *secret* meaning part of *ghayb* (the unknown)..(astaghfirullah al-adheem from what they say!)

And akhi you bring a good point with your reminder..many times we will visit a site..grab a book..hear a scholar..or watch a channel..and we like what we see..hear..browse..or watch..only to find out later that we were fed some deviated information without us realizing it..that's why it's important to pay attention to the small indications of deviation (if you do not already have strong knowledge on deviated groups) such as the phrase translated above..saying *alayhi assalam* about a member of Ahlulbait..etc. because that's the "slip of tongue" which reveals many deviated people..and inshallah our brothers and sister remain aware and careful of their sources for knowledge

All praise to Allah. MashAllah, what a great reply. Yes that imam deserve a visit by me and I'm going to demand for source of the hadith he quoted. Not only him, there are many other sheikh likes to use weak hadith in their talk. But that is the problem, when you speak up they call me "Wahabbi". What? May Allah guide them all. When Ramadan comes I tell you more fake hadiths inshAllah.

I have a book on fake hadeeths, and I'm sure it's easy to find online too. Weak hadeeths are bad enuf to be mindful of, but FABRICATED ONES!? Some with no sanad to speak of even! Seriously, man, these people have got nothing better to do.. Fabricated hadeeth really brings down the ummah, and what's worst, people who cannot be bothered to check out the transmission, or even check with a reliable scholar about the credibility of the chain of transmittors will just believe it...

Great to have brothers and sisters here who are mindful of these.. JazakAllaah khair,

wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullahi wabarakatuh

Truly when I read the story, I was like ' Oh! Really?'

I could not believe the given story mainly for three reasons.

1) Nothing has been mentioned about the Authenticity of the story,

2) If the companions have seen Iblees, will this story be hidden to this extend where we need to do A LOT of work to find whether something like this has happened even? Will our great Scholars keep silent about this huge story if its true?

3) It is mentioned in Quran that the head of Iblees is like the fruit of Zaqqum Tree at the bottom of the Hell. Read Verse Number 65 of Surah As-Saaffat. "The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils". If Sahaba has seen such a thing and recorded in books, will it be such a hidden story in the History?

JazakumAllahu khairan brother HardRockMoslem and sister a_muslimah86.

This is really a good thread which cleared something very important for me.
