Revert's question

Salaams,

I was wondering if you could help me with a quick question- it's regarding Surah 58:22. The translation I have here is

'You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day loving those who opose Allah and His Messenger; even if they are their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their kinsfolk'.

Another translation substitutes 'loving' for 'having affection for'.

As a revert, this is quite hard for me to swallow so I just wanted to check that I wasn't missing some context etc? Does anyone know?

Thanks.

hello honey , Allah says about non- Muslims parents :

" We have enjoined on man kindness to parents: but if they (either of them) strive (to force) thee to join with Me (in worship) anything of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not. Ye have (all) to return to Me, and I will tell you (the truth) of all that ye did "

and also :

"But if they strive to make thee join in worship with Me things of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not; yet bear them company in this life with justice (And consideration), and follow the way of those who turn to Me (in love). In the End the return of you all is to Me, and I will tell you the truth (and meaning) of all that ye did."

That means you repect ur parents but u dont hear what they say about religous things , u must have good manners with them but don't love them coz of their religion .

No problem in Normal Love ( parents - sons-..etc ) but u dont love their religion .

May Allah bless you :)

Salam sister,

Jazak Allahu khairan KSA lover for your answer, but I'd like to add that if you're in a situation where you should take sides with one of the parties (like in a war for instance), you should be siding with the Truth,i.e., with Allah's religion and that's the true test of eman. And it did happen that some of the Companions had to fight against their parents and kins in some battle.

'You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day loving those who oppose Allah and His Messenger; even if they are their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their kinsfolk'.

The ayah specifically mentions "fathers" as it's one's duty to obey them, "sons" as one's hearts are strongly attached to them, "brothers" cos one usually seeks their support in life and "kinsfolk" as they are the ones who offer support against enemies in battles and the like.

So be kind and show respect to your parents, but when it comes to loyalty and allegince, it's to Allah SWT.

Hope this helps.

Brother, They were all Christians.

:wasalam:

:salam2:

they claim to be, I doubt they are even christians. they are just islamophobic haters and lyers. May Allah guide them.

Their hate and spread of mischief feeds regular people's feelings of fear. It generates lots of money for these kind of people. For them religion is business.
