I was talking to a muslim friend a few moments ago and i was filling her about my dad. She said my dad is not my meeram? i was what is the meaning of that she said it means that even if he is my biological dad he is still a non muslim so i cant stay with him and cant talk to him. How can i do that??? i just got him back! and i could never just kick him out! HORRIBLE! So converting to islam means just leaving him...NO! :(....

sorry got a bit hyper but need answer ASAP!

sis amelia thats not true, youre father is youre father end of story. in islam, as you know, parents are honoured, whether they are muslim or not. many of the companions at the time of the Prophet (saas) had parents who were not muslim, yet they honoured them with full respect

a mahram is somebody that you can not marry e.g your uncle, father, brother etc a mahram can also be youre husband. in youre case, youre father would not be able to take you to hajj obviously as hes non-muslim but thats all.. hes still youre father..maybe one day he will see the beauty of islam throught you :hearts:

Fatwa Title : Relations with non Muslim father
Fatwa Date : 29 Rajab 1422 / 17-10-2001
Question

I am a Muslim woman who lives with her blood father who is Christian. I know that I must be covered except for my face and hands in the presence of any man who is not my unmarrigeable relative. However, I recently heard that I must also be completely covered, except for my face and hands, in the presence of my father who I live with. Is this correct?
Fatwa

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his Family and Companions. It is permissible for a woman to disclose her face, hands, arms, hair, and feet in front of her unmarriageable persons. A non-Muslim father is also a MAHRAM (unmarriageable person). He is also MAHRAM for traveling .So it is allowed for her to uncover the above mentioned parts before him and to travel with him, provided that she feels safe from all temptations in all cases. Allah knows best.

Your dad is your dad and you can live with him as normal, you do not need to wear hijab in front of him either.

If this Muslim friend of your still insists what she said is true, tell her to give you the evidence

aww :D :D
i think it must be kinda hard for reverts they get all sorts of info from people it dosent matter if you are experienced or not, you can probablly do a great job at da'awah, especially to youre dad! abu bakr guided 7 out of the 10 muslims who were guaranteed paradise on his first day as a muslim- somebody correct me if ive gone wrong, and yet his knowledge of islam was scarce.

we're all learners :SMILY139:

As-salaamu `alaykum

I must say, the fact that she said he is not Mahram for you is worrying to me! He is your father. Like the others have said, he doesn't have a right or role in affairs of Marriage, so he isn't sufficient a guardian for you. However, what proof did your friend rely upon to reach this obscure conclusion?

Allaah knows best.
