Need explain about this hadeeth jazakalla kahair:salam2::salam2:

:salam2:

First of all, food is a great blessing from Allah swt which we shouldn't waste.

When we are done eating, the plate should be wiped clean with one's fingers (so that we don't waste any food remaining on our plate) with our fingers. The fingers should be licked because there is some food remaining on our fingers and there is a great barakah (blessing) in licking the food off the fingers once we have completed eating.

Also a reminder, we should eat with our right hand, the way the Prophet (PBUH) taught us to eat. :)

I hope this made sense Insha'Allah tallah.

The manner of the Prophet :saw: was to make sure that every bit of food he allocated for himself to eat was eaten. The Prophet :saw: and his companions used to make sure that nothing remind in their plate or on their hands. The reason is very simple: when you begin eating by saying Bismillaah, the food that Allaah had brought in front of you contains a blessing, but you would never know which part exactly carried that blessing. The companions understood this, and they used to make sure not a single drop of food or liquid was left behind.

Your fingers also carry food while you are eating. To neglect the crumbs of food on your hands or in your plate is wasteful of food and possibly the blessing Allaah had placed in your food.

Anas ibn Maalik narrated that when the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) ate, he would lick his three fingers. Anas said: “And he said, ‘If any one of you drops a piece of food, let him remove any dirt from it and eat it, and not leave it for the Shaytaan.’ And he commanded us to clean the plate, and said, ‘For you do not know where in your food the blessing is.’”

You might be surprised. You might say: there is so little food left on your hand, is it really worth licking? The prophet :saw: indicates clearly in this haadith just how much he cared about those tiny pieces of food on your hand, to the extent that if you cannot lick your fingers after eating, then you should let someone else do it. That is how serious Muhammad :saw: was about wasting food. He wasn't joking either, the hadith is there to show you the importance of not wasting food, and utilizing the blessings Allaah has provided for you. If you don't care about those blessings, then let someone else who does get the benefit.

Now, unfortunately, we have become so used to wasting food, this hadith is simply wasted on us.

Prophet :saw: eating etiquette

I ask Allaah SWT to prevent us from wasting food, and to grant us all the blessings He has provided for us.

According to Ulama in my place, syaithan always stands beside us when we are in eating foods. And we must lick our fingers because we don't know which part of this food that contains barakah (blessing), also to prevent syaithan eats the wasted food.

Today, medical science says that, If a person eats with his fingers, and dips his fingers in the food while eating, some germs are made that allow to digest the food more easily, and the stomach doesn't get any problems. So you need to lick your fingers to lick the germs, which are good for your health. Licking fingers produces more saliva which helps to digest food faster.

This was told 1400 years by our Prophet(sa); today science has proved its beneficial values.

When we lick our fingers after eating, more saliva(mouth water)is secreted from the saliva gland. that helps to kill the 1st order germs first(like bacteria etc) and helps the digestion also.

Each and every haddeth is proved scientifically....inshallah

As Salamu 'Alaykum,

I always understood it to mean that because we say Bismillah before we eat that Allah bless the food and we don't want to waste any food, but especially that which contains Allah's Blessing. It also keep the sleeve clean if that is the custom in your country. And, I try to eat from the edge of the plate inward.

I didn't have time to read the above posts; so, I apologize if my answer was redundant or an exact dublicate.

Alhamdulillah!

Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Satan appears at every thing done by you; he appears even at one's dinner. When a morsel of any of you falls, he should pick it up and remove any dirt on it, and then eat it. He should not leave it for Satan, nor should he wipe his hand with the towel until he has licked his fingers, for he does not know in what portion of the food the blessing lies."

Ibn ‘Abbas reported the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) as saying :
When one of you eats, he must not wipe his hand with a handkerchief till he licks it or gives it to someone to lick.

It is recommended to lick one's fingers and wipe the bowl, and to eat a piece of food that is dropped after removing any dirt on it. It is disliked to wipe one's hand before licking it, because of the possibility that the blessing of the food may be in that remaining part. The Sunnah is to eat with three fingers.

Absolute truth

لا إله إلا الله
Q: Can you explain this hadith ?

‏‏‏
Narrated Ibn `Abbas:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
'When you eat, do not wipe your hands till you have licked it, or had it licked by somebody else."
Sahih al-Bukhari 5456

Answer:

1- "By someone else" is understood by a translator not in the original arabic.

The same hadith translated from Sahih Muslim translation:

‏ "‏ إِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنَ الطَّعَامِ فَلاَ يَمْسَحْ يَدَهُ حَتَّى يَلْعَقَهَا أَوْ يُلْعِقَهَا ‏"‏
Ibn 'Abbas reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:
"When any one of you eats food he should not wipe his hand until he has licked it or got it licked by (someone else)." Muslim 2031 b

2- One of the translator couldn't remember the exact words whether it
يَلْعَقَهَا أَوْ يُلْعِقَهَا
So, he reported his doubt. "he has licked it or got it licked"
Look the 2 words translated in english are nearly the same in Arabic (with slight difference in vowels/taskeel ). It's most likely "Ataa'" who doubted the exact word according to Farid.

" had it licked" refers to the finger..it can be licked by the same person..

3- Food is a great blessing from Allah which we shouldn't waste. When we are done eating, the plate should be wiped clean with one's fingers (so that we don't waste any food remaining on our plate) and fingers should be licked because there is some food remaining and there is a great barakah (blessing) in it. When you begin eating by saying Bismillaah, the food that Allaah had brought in front of you contains a blessing, but you would never know which part exactly carried that blessing.

Allah knows best.
