Asalaamu'alaykum.

Fajr prayer is very important as we all know, but how many of us offer this salaah? I came across some useful info on the net, so I thought I'd share. I hope it is of benefit. May Allaah enable us to put the following into practice and may we take heed from this. Ameen.

The fact is that as a Muslim you must wake up for fajr prayer!

The above statement is just a simple fact. There are valid reasons for missing fajr prayer if one were to make up the prayer later, but this piece is for those who allow themselves to sleep through the required time to pray fajr.

As many things in Islam go, to wake up for Fajr salat you will have to struggle. Have faith that if you accidently miss prayer you may make it up as soon as possible. But if you keep missing fajr prayer due to carelessness and constant negligence then you are jeopardizing your faith. Even more dangerous is when you become complacent with not waking up and satisfied with just making fajr prayer whenever you happen to wake up.

To train yourself to wake up on time practice these tips (even if you've tried them before and they have not worked. As stated before, it is a struggle and not one that can be abandoned)

1. Alarm Clock!!!
(Set 2 or 3 and don't put the alarm clock by your bed. Try to put it across the room so you will have to get out of bed to turn it off and once out of bed don't go back to bed!!!!)

2. Go to bed early
This will take a few days to adjust your sleep schedule but work it in such a way that you can wake up for fajr and go back to bed and not ruin the amount of sleep you need. To avoid staying up late cramming for an exam/quiz make sure you study earlier!

3. Get someone to wake you up
If you live with other Muslims or at home with a Muslim family ask your brothers/sisters/parents to wake you up. (That is good because if they're Muslim they have to pray too!) Have them dump some water on your face to help you wake up.

4. Du'aa before going to sleep.
Waking up is also a mental thing. On the weekend imagine how you linger in bed, but on a weekday because of school how you get yourself up to get to class on time (i hope!). The point is to make du'aa before you sleep to ask Allah (swa) to help you wake up, it also serves as a mental reminder that when your alarm rings you have to get up and you have to pray!

5. Drink an insane amount of water before going to bed.
Not so much so that your belly is a temporary aquarium. I mean 2-3 glasses full of water. Not only is it extremely healthy to drink lots of water, but come morning hours you'll need to get up for more then just fajr ;-). Insha'allah this won't be the only reason you get up, but as long as it gets you out of bed.

6. Get your adrenaline up.
When your alarm goes off roll out of bed and do some push ups or get up and do some jumping jacks. Once you get some adrenaline in your blood stream, not only will you be able to make fajr salat, but you might stay up and do some homework! (probably not but at least you'll make salat).

LOL! That's so funny! :D

If your missing Fajr salat even though your implementing all these tips try asking some people what they do to wake up.

But ALWAYS REMEMBER NEVER TO GIVE UP (always set your alarm) because on the Day of Judgement are you going to say

"Hey I tried but I had to give up after awhile" or

"I tried all my life and never gave up."

All goes well InshaAllaah when waking up for Fajr Salat. Once you've mastered that, start thinking about making a trip to the masjid for fajr once a week (for brother's ovi).

ALSO Read some of these hadith for some motivation to wake up for Fajr Salat.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said,
"There are angels who take turns in visiting you by night and by day, and they all assemble at the dawn (Fajr) and the afternoon (`Asr) prayers. Those who have spent the night with you, ascend to the heaven and their Rubb, Who knows better about them, asks: `In what condition did you leave My slaves?' They reply: `We left them while they were performing Salat and we went to them while they were performing Salat.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Abu Musa (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said,
"He who The observes Al-Bardan (i.e., Fajr and `Asr prayers) will enter Jannah.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Jundub bin Sufyan (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said,
"He who offers the dawn (Fajr) prayers will come under the Protection of Allah. O son of Adam! Beware, lest Allah should call you to account in any respect from (for withdrawing) His Protection.''
[Muslim].

Abu Zuhair `Umarah Ruwaibah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) saying:
"He who performs Salat (prayers) before the rising of the sun and before its setting, will not enter the Hell.''
[Muslim].

At-Tirmidhee narrated upon the authority of Al Ghamdi that the Prophet (sallallaahu-'alaihi-wasallam) said:
"O Allah bless my Ummah in its early rising!" and whenever he dispatched an expedition or army he sent them early at the beginning of the day. Sakhr was a merchant who always sent his merchandise early in morning thus, becoming wealthy (3). That is why we find the craftsmen and traders are particular about making good use of this time. Those who sleep up to the late morning have denied themselves the blessings of this early hour.

The Prophet (sallallaahu-'alaihi-wasallam) said:
"Shaytaan ties three knots on the crown of any one of you in your sleep. He says upon each knot that he ties: "You have a long night before you, therefore sleep". But if you wake up and mention Allah, Most Exalted in remembrance one knot will be untied. If you then make ablution another knot will be undone. If you then proceed to pray the last knot will be disentangled. Thus, you will feel in the morning energetic and in good spirits. Otherwise you will feel in a despicable state, lazy".
[narrated by Maalik, Bukhaaree, Muslim and Abu Dawood]

Bukhari and Muslim and An-Nasaaee related on the
authority of Ibn Mas'ud (radhiallaahu-anhu) that he said:
The case of a man who slept all the night up to sunrise (without waking up for Fajr) was related to the Prophet (sallallaahu-alaihi-wasallam) whereupon he said: "That was a man in whose ear Shaytaan has urinated", or he said "in both his ears".
