What should be said during Salat?

As-salaamualikum brothers and sisters!

I was reading a guide on what should be said during prayer, and I had a few questions. The guide I was reading was on this same forums, just add this after you type in turntoislam.com:
/forum/showthread.php?t=1487

In the guide, it is said that the surah in the first rakath should be longer than the one in the second. If you were reading 4 rakaths, then should the surah in the 3rd rakath be longer than the one in the 4th?

Secondly, If you are reading 4 rakaths sunnath, then a surah should be said after Fatiha in each rakath, correct? And if you are reading Farz then a surah should only be recited after Fatiha in the first 2 rakaths, correct?

Also, in this guide it says that after reading Tashahud and after reciting Darud, you should read this:

Rab bij'alnee muqeemas salati wa min
zur-riy yatee rab-bana wata qab-bal du'a,
rab-ba nagh-firlee wali waliday-ya
wa lil mu-mineena yawma yaqumul hisab.

First of all, can someone please supply me with this dua in arabic text please? Thank you. But my questions was that after Tashahud and Darud, I have always read this :

"Allah Humma Rabbana Aatina Fid Dunya Hasanah Wa Fil Akhirate Hasanah Wa Qina Azaban Naar."

So have I been reading the wrong dua after darud?

Thank you brothers and sisters for any help in advance.

Assalamualikum..
I don't understand
There is no short surah in 3rd and 4t rakaah and if it is sunnah..then sunnah suppose to be done 2 by 2..it means sunnah prayer only consist 2 rakaah only

Allah knows the best.
Assalamualikum

I admit I have difficulty learning the formal way to pray too.

But really, isn't having the heartfelt desire to pray to the One, True, Loving God what really matters? Or does it have to be exactly correct, and it's considered invalid if you mess up? Sorry for asking a question within a question thread. XD

Assalaam walaikum,

If I have not welcomed you before..please allow me now.

What Sister Revert is trying to explain to you is we only recite sura's in the first two rakats. The third etc do not need to have an additional sura to Fathia.

Are you near a masjid. It is best to have someone in person demonstrate how to pray.

There should be one on this site.

Yes, the intention to please Allah is important and even critical. And we want to please Him by performing what He has told us to do in the best manner possible.

Keep asking questions.

Salaamalaykum brother,

I think by explaining the details of Salah, I would overwhelm you and it would do more harm than good.

Just take baby steps and learn how to make Salah. Start with beginner's guide and keep working on it and adding to it. Build from the base. It will be easier.

In case you haven't found links to study the steps of prayer yet, there are lots of resources in the subforum of TTI ' Learn How To do Prayer and Ablution Video '

Learn to Pray as the Prophet Prayed (English) Video

The right way to perform prayer (includes animation)

:salam2: sister,

The Dua you have mentioned in your post. I find none of them in authentic narrations of dua to be said 'after the Durood' or 'before ending prayer'. If you want to follow the Sunnah of the Rasool SallAllahu Alleihi Wa Sallam, then recite supplications from this authentic book called 'Fortress of the muslim'

Please go to this link :- http://www.islamawareness.net/Dua/Fortress/024.html

For other authentic supplications :- http://www.islamawareness.net/Dua/Fortress/

Also, you can supplicate for anything at the end of your prayer. In that case, it should be acceptable perhaps. But if you want to stick to the Sunnah, please refer to my link.

And Allah knows best.
