Fitan Cause One’s Intellect to Depart

Chapter: Trials (Fitan) Cause One’s Intellect to Depart

1 - From Hudhayfah, who said:

“Alcohol is no better at causing one’s intellect and rationality to depart than fitan are.”

This was reported by Ibn Abi Shaybah, as well as Abu Nu’aym, in ‘Hilyat al-Awliya’.’

2 - He also said:

“There will be a fitnah in which the intellect of men will be distorted, to the point that you will hardly see a man who is thinking rationally.”

This was reported by Nu’aym bin Hammad in ‘al-Fitan,’ and in ‘Kunz al-’Ummal,’ it is declared to be sahih.

3 - He also said:

“There will be a fitnah, after which there will be a jama’ah. Then, there will be another jama’ah, after which there will be another fitnah, after which there will be no jama’ah. Voices will be raised, the eyes will stare in horror, and intellect will depart, to the point that you would not see a single rational person.”

This was narrated by ad-Daylami.

4 - Also, it was narrated that Ibn Mas’ud said:

“I fear for you a fitnah that is like the night, in which a man’s heart will die just as his body dies.”

This was narrated by Nu’aym bin Hammad in ‘al-Fitan.’
