Recently I've been trying to be good and... I need help on how!

Can anybody please for the sake of Allah give me some feedback on how to stop:

  • Cursing
  • Backbiting

Also, could anyone please list some things which follows the Sunnah, and things we could do to please Allah.

This would be very much appreciated . Thanks for reading, please take a little time to improve myself.

JazakAllah everybody :hearts:

Oh Allah please forgive my minor sins, which may lead to major sins. Ameen.

I'm afraid I can't write a real proper reply to this, but interestingly enough I heard a sort of funny tactic a person came up with in learning how to stop themselves from doing something (don't recall if it was cursing or smoking).

Just pay up a dollar everytime you curse! Because we can't physically see our sins, or our misdeeds being written down, we overlook them as insignficant. But we surely feel our money being drained from our pockets.

This money cannot however be used by the person... eventually most people find ways out of not losing thier own money, and if that's by stopping cursing... so be it! And if you translate the money into thinking of the sins it really stands for, it becomes more motivational to quit.

Alhamdulillah I've never had to try this tactic, but I've always thought it was an interesting concept, so perhaps you could give it a try? lol

Salam2You!

Mashallah what a great idea!

JazakAllah so much for this, I hate feeling guilt whenever I swear by accident or whatever I do, the guilt bugs me a lot, I sometimes even get a headache from thinking about a sinful act I've done, but I'll give this a go Inshallah!

Thank you for your idea, JazakAllah khair!

backbiteing is totally forbiden in islam, so we should stay away from it, it could litrally take you to hell.this sin carrys alot of weight.

Allah says in the Qur'an:

"O you who believe! Avoid much suspicion, in deeds some suspicions are sins. And spy not neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allah, verily, Allah is The One Who accepts repentance, Most Merciful" (Qur'an 49: 12)

And Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudree narrated that Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said:

"When man wakes up in the morning each day, all parts of the body warn the tongue saying, ‘Fear Allah as regards us for we are at your mercy; if you are upright, we will be upright and if you are crooked, we become crooked."

there are more versus and hadith regarding it, but this just shows the importance to avoid backbiteing.its just as bad as eating your own dead brothers flesh !!!

regarding cursing :

Narrated Abu Darda (radhi allahu anhu), ‘Allah’s Messenger (sallallahu aliahi wa-sallam) said, ‘When a person curses (La’nah; to ask that something be deprived of Allah’s Mercy) somebody or something, the curse goes up to the heaven and the gates of the heaven are closed. Then it comes down to the earth and its gates are closed. Then it turns right and left, and if it does not find an entrance to go anywhere, it returns to the person or thing that was cursed, if he or it deserves to be cursed; otherwise, it returns to the person, who uttered it.’ [Abu Dawood] Allah’s Messenger (sallallahu aliahi wa-sallam) also warned, ‘Those who frequently resort to cursing would neither be accepted as witnesses nor as intercessors on the Day of Resurrection.’ [Saheeh Muslim]

inshallah this helped.

:salam2: Little Sister,

Oh sweetie! You are so young, may Creator remember your efforts to stay on the straight path.

This past Ramadan was my first fast and while I am not a muslim, I had things I needed to learn that I felt only Ramadan could teach me. I never knew that one of those lessons was realizing and acknowledging just how much I swore. Now, as a non-muslim, it was not a matter of me going to hell but I felt it was a deep disrespect to Muslims everywhere and to the holiness of Ramadan.

I am 38 years old. Now that I am aware of the fact that I swear as if those words are nouns and verbs. It is going to take a while to break the habit. Each day is another day and another chance to change for the better. Each day is a new day to PRACTICE what we learn. Have as much patience with yourself and Creator does....it takes time.

Good luck sweetie...We all love you.

This surely did help, it makes me scared! :SMILY26:
I've repented because I can't take the guilt of committing such a sin anymore..:astag:
JazakAllah Khair for your time and efforts for this!

Thank you so much for your reply, this shows I'm not the only one so phew!
I'm so glad you're into Islam, I'm glad I reverted, though I'm short in knowledge, If I have any questions I turntoislam!
It IS going to be hard for me to cut it down, but I don't say the deep curses like 'f' and such.. Usually I'm a bit cheeky towards my friends, as a joke though.. But I feel I carry it on too much so in the end I feel guilty...

Thank you and JazakAllah khair for your comment again sister! We'll be sure to stop sooner or later Inshallah!
Patience is a virtue!:hijabi: :hijabi:

:salam2: Little Sister,

Oh, you are very much NOT alone. At last count, there were what, 1.5 BILLION Muslims in the world...that's alot of people asking Creator the same question, "please forgive me". hehe...I'm amazed he doesn't go deaf sometimes. I know that as a parent, *I* go temporally deaf with my son. I never loose the love though and I know that he is still growing and learning. So are you. You'll figure it out soon. I have faith.

It's like being blind and trying to walk down a street and all you have are the curbs to let you know when you've gone to far to the left or right. While we walk, we may encounter stones and pebbles that when we step on them, we turn our ankle and get injured. What do you do? Leave the stone there so someone else gets hurt? Or do you throw the stone away to ease the path for someone else?

Welcome to life sweet sister. You have alot of learning to do but with patience <because the walk may be long> and care <so you don't hurt yourself tooooo badly> you will get to the end of the road with only a few turned ankles and scraped knees.

:)
