LEYTON: Support for Iman over evolution comments

1:00pm Saturday 12th March 2011

SUPPORT has been pouring in for an Iman who received death threats after saying Muslims need to accept evolution - despite him since retracting the comments.

A total of 15 leading Muslim leaders have backed "the right to free speech" of Dr Usama Hasan, of the Masjid Madrasah al-Tawhid mosque in Leyton High Road, in a letter to The Guardian national newspaper.

And more than 1,140 people have joined a website in his support on social networking site Facebook.

However Dr Hasan has since withdrawn his comments and apologised for causing offence.

In an interview with the BBC he said: "I've retracted that attempt to reconcile evolution with the Qur'an, and if and when scholars are ready for a debate then we may go into it."

The letter of support states: "As representatives of a broad spectrum of belief in the Muslim community, we support Usama Hasan's right to free speech and the right to foster a culture of intelligent and compassionate debate about Islam.

"Islam has a tradition of creative thinking and discussion which allows disagreement and, importantly, the tools to tackle social injustice.

"Intolerance violates the spirit of Islam and has to be condemned."

This guy is such a trouble-maker as anyone from Leyton etc. (in East London) knows. Why the media spot-light? The way he's handled events is such that he's making sunnee Muslims look bad by getting non-Muslims and neo-modernists on his side. One only needs to look at him sucking up, praising and wishing well the British troops who are violating our lands and people to see what he stands for. Fair enough don't disrespect and insult them, but why the sucking up?

His grand-father was a great Muhaddith and look at him. Usama and his father lost all their respect and honour amongst ahl us-Sunnah due to recent events so they turn to opponents of the sunnah instead for attention.

I seek refuge in Allaah that he bring anyone of us down with the affliction that fell upon Usama...

See aqeedah.com for more info.

This same thing has been troubling me how can sons of such a great scholar end up like this. Suheib Hasan used to be on Huda too Shaykh 'Abdul Ghaffar Hasan wouldn't be happy if he was alive to see his sons stance.
Really May Allaah Guide them and hope they return to the clear path.
