Assalam Alaikum:

An individual who is agnostic, believes in an unseen Creator and have the faith that our Creator is beyond perception. This corresponds to monotheism/Tawheed . Surely he/she enjoins no partners to our Crteator.

I wonder what would be his/her fate on day of Judgement?.

Regards.

an agnost is one who is unsure of the existence of God.
An athiest is one who believes there is no God.

i guess when these people are dying, suddenly the truth hits them. At that moment. However, it would be too late by then unless they know how to recite the shahadah.

In my opinion if they heard the message of Islaam and that Prophet Mohammed (Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him) is the last messenger but reject it then they would be in Hell.

I agree with arzafar and Abu Talib. If you rephrased that, it would be if one believes in God but doesn't have a religion, therefor there is no sign of devotion. Plus you have to believe in the 5 pillars of Islam

We are judged according to our adherence to the primordial covenant.

"We said: Get down all of you from here; so whenever there comes to you Guidance from Me, whoever follows My Guidance, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they have any worry," (2:38)

"But those who thanklessly reject faith and said of Our Sign that they are lies, they shall be Companions of the Fire, where they shall abide" (2:39)

It is in this context only that the verse 5:69 talking about Sabians and Jews going to heaven is meant. Those who are in error because they reject the signs that come to them are disbelievers regardless of whether they call themselves agnostics, athieists, Christians or anything else.

To respond to the question directly now, although with the rule rather than with the answer, if the agnostic is only so because they reject the Signs which ave come to them, then they are disbelievers.

Assalam Alaikum:

I perceive agnostic is not a firm atheist nor a firm believer, and to whatever degree of belief he/ she possesses,it clings to monotheism and that the belief is in unseen, which is not so erroneous as polytheism and idolatry.

To be a believer, you have to accept the Signs WHEN they come. If someone says "I'm still not convinced, BUT I do still keep my mind open to the possibility of a God and of a religion being true" despite having come across Allah's Signs, then they are HAVE rejected them, even if they don't reject the concept in principle.

The problem with the agnostic and the atheist is that they have a problem with authority, they don't want to obey Allah SWT. So who are they serving or trying to please? Ibadah is supposed to humble us, but when you live life unsure or without any iman how can you be humbled?

Allah has chosen Islam as a way of life for humanity. When this messge reaches anyone clearly and they knowingly reject it, then they have rejected the truth as brothers mentioned it earlier.

When Islam comes, there is no third way left, there is either acceptance or rejection because it wants some action and sacrfice, some obligations and responsibilites in order to distinguish between those who are truthful from those who are false.

Have a look at the following few verses (4:141-4:143):

Those who wait [and watch] you. Then if you gain a victory from Allah , they say, "Were we not with you?" But if the disbelievers have a success, they say [to them], "Did we not gain the advantage over you, but we protected you from the believers?" Allah will judge between [all of] you on the Day of Resurrection, and never will Allah give the disbelievers over the believers a way [to overcome them].

Indeed, the hypocrites [think to] deceive Allah , but He is deceiving them. And when they stand for prayer, they stand lazily, showing [themselves to] the people and not remembering Allah except a little,

Wavering between them, [belonging] neither to the believers nor to the disbelievers. And whoever Allah leaves astray - never will you find for him a way.

In fact, it would be hard to say an agnostic is a believer, but instead, it is someone who follows a strong hunch and thus there will be phases of belief and disbelief by giving the other possibility benefit of the doubt also. Therefore, there is wavering in the belief. Surely, an agnostic can never earn the place of a believer, the two are not equal.

Lastly, indeed Allah is the owner of the day of judgement. He forgives whomever He wills.
Hope it helped. Salamu alaikum

Assalam Alaikum: Br.Bawar.

Thanks very much for an excellent reply based on Quran. I agree. Islam is not following mere some of the obligations and being careless or in-knowledgeable for rest. One must drown completely in the Deen of Allah if at all to be called a Believer (Muslim).

BTW, Br Allah knows, before I read your reply I was just wondering about you,as where do you disappear all of a sudden :) and later when I made login to TTI I found your reply that too in thread started by me. MashaAllah,Allah connects hearts of Momeen out no expectations but for sake of Allah. Alhamdulillah.

Regards.
