Assalaamu 'alaykum!
Shaykh Muhammad Moosaa Nasr states:

"Also, that which is considered from amongst abandoning sleeping with her is by him sleeping with her by his back facing her. And this is more painful than beating, especially for the woman who has been accustomed to her husband and loves him and has her heart attached to him. Therefore, beating women is not considered manhood or heroism.
And strangely, you see some husbands as if though they are in a gladiator ring or in a boxing match with their wives. I heard that a man had beaten his wife badly such that, and Allaah's refuge is sought, he was biting her as if though he was a bull or as a predator scratching her.
And he kicked her tremendously and she was about to die. And the daughter of this woman called her young uncle and said, 'Know that my father killed my mother!' And her uncle was a butcher.
So he entered the house by climbing the walls and hit the father with a vase and fractured his head. Then he took the father to the hospital while he was in a bad situation. At the hospital, they stitched his head with 15 stitches.
And these are the fruits of the stupidity and wildness of such a husband. The woman is weak and one must be kind and good to her. The husband is not to be like a raging bull. The husband must be kind. He should either keep her in kindness or discharge her with goodness. Allaah said:

"And live with them in kindness." [4:19]
So, is it from good character that a man breaks the teeth of his wife, makes her face swollen, eats her flesh, and is satisfied by beating and kicking her?! Is the home a jungle or a place of security and happiness?"
