Time magazine person of the year

Asaalaam walaikum,

Ok..so I decided I am going to follow the edicts of Islam. I am not going to protest any more. No more hanging out on the street and screaming. No more attending per-demonstration meetings. No more politics. No more power to the people right on...

I had little sympathy with the Occupy Wall Streeters...I always knew the bankers were the bad guys..it does not take genius...

so as I stopped...

and that is when Time Magazine..makes the protestor the person of the year..go figure.

You just missed your chance to be person of the year! Kidding, kidding..

I agree with what they're protesting, but my biggest problem with the occupy movement is that these are things that have been problems for years and years. The only reason why they're all mad now is that it's finally starting to effect the middle classes, and white people. These are things that people of color and the poor have been saying for ages, but no one pays attention to them. And for that reason, they just get on my nerves.

Assalaam walaikum,

It is so good to see you post. I thought I had lost you to that sociology professor. You have made my day, little sister.

Yes, middle class America finally got to see what others face..but now the group is bigger. I wish them well..we can live without the suv's etc.

But there has always been an economy that has not been reported. The world that the bankers turned their backs on. It is not a credit based economy but a simpler day to day survival.

I read once the solution to living a debt free life is to make $15,000 dollars a year. The IRS can not come near you.

Assalaam walaikum,

A while back you posted a question which had me intrigued. You were enrolled in a class and had to do a paper on subcultures. You used terms that were very new. I was so tickled I researched the concepts. Ring a bell?

I vaguely remember the question but I'm not sure if it had anything to do with a class I was taking or not. Do you remember what the question was about? Gender roles or something, wasn't it?

Assalaam walaikum,

It was a paper you were writing. I am thinking it was more about group norms..more of an anthropological approach..

But, it is good to have you back..

White people are also poor. Do you know how many trailer parks are in the south?

Assalaam walaikum,

Sister Alf..I believe Sister Kayleigh mentioned and poor people in her post. It was inclusive. Yes, poverty has no color boundaries.
I think what we are discussing are middle class values as lived in the USA. My question is where were these people when the Patriot Acts were enacted. They were silent when Israel dropped its cluster bombs on Gaza and I can go on and on and on..but when the sheeple woke up one morning because their money was being messed with..well hello..they marched to Wall Street..give them a bonus that the bankers get and the sheeple will go home and turn on Fox news.

I know very well that there are a lot of poor white people. But people of color make up the majority of those below the poverty level, and a disproportionate number of racial minorities are below the poverty level. Also, things like the police brutality that you see in the Occupy movements are nothing new to people of color but people are suddenly getting angry about it, like its something new? And even poor white people have certain privileges that minorities do not, regardless of how dirt poor they are.
