Our Inner vs. Outer Condition

Our Inner vs. Outer Condition

From the Words of ‘Abdullah ‘Azzam…

…And the believer – subhan Allah, glory be to You, O Lord – is liked by everyone no matter what.

Why?

The believer isn’t fake. There is nothing you can hold against him. What he does in secret is what he does openly. There aren’t secret acts and public acts. He doesn’t have a personality in secret and a different one in public. They are both the same. So, if you were to peek into his life when he’s alone, you’d find him even better than he is in public. If you were to see him at home at night, you’d find him either praying, sleeping, eating suhur, or reciting the Qur’an. There is nothing you can hold against him. There is no girl he has snuck in to commit indecent acts with, nor does he have stolen money that he is counting.

His outer condition is like his inner condition. In fact, his inner condition is even better than his outer, and the early Muslims would say ‘O Allah, make our inner condition better than our outer condition, and make our outer condition good.’ There is nothing you can hold against him. He has inner confidence, is sure of himself, and is relaxed.

As for the hypocrite, he fears that everyone will discover his faults and that they are privy to his sins. This is why it’s as if the suspicious person wants to tell people ‘Take me away, take me away.’ Why? He is filled with faults, and he suspects that this person knows of them, that person found out, etc. So, his whole life is full of anxiety and constriction.

As for the believer, ‘Umar bin al-Khattab nullified his ablution while on the pulpit. He said: “O people, I’ve passed gas, and I am going to make ablution and return.” He is sure of himself. So, why would he care what people think? On a day other than Friday, he ascended the pulpit and gathered the people and said: “O people, a few years ago, I used to herd sheep for people in Makkah for a few copper coins.” So, ‘Abd ar-Rahman bin ‘Awf took him aside and said to him privately: “Commander of the Believers, you did nothing but belittle yourself in front of everyone.” So, ‘Umar said: “That was exactly my intention. I felt impressed with myself, and therefore wanted to humble myself in front of everyone.”"

Brother I completely agree with you, but if it was as you say, Allah s.w.t wouldn't have made a public life and a private life for each and everyone of us. Would you feel comfortable if every action you do in your everyday life be open to each and everyone. Trust me even good deeds become a show off, bad deeds to be honest come clean in such a case, but there are private matters that should be private. Going in private places, having private life doing normal things is impossible in open. I have hard time to attend my private needs in open, even having feelings in open. There is so much out there in this "competitive" world that is better being private and simple. I guess I can't talk enough of it, but I am the best person to reply to this post. You have judged, and I don't think you have done it right. Story is true and right, but should be used more cautiously. I need a private life, no matter how much you would think all sorts of things for me. There is a way for all superb muslims to be open. My case is a way for you. I don't wish it for you, but if you will, means are clear to every one.

You havent understood the thread. And this was written by Shaykh Abdullah Azzam (rahimahullah) and not me.

Asalamo'Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuh,

JazaakAllaahu Khayraa.

sabina isa from what I understood, the post simply meant that the actions of a believer are such in secret, that he will face no humiliation or embarrassment if they become public. While the case of a hypocrite is the opposite.

From my perspective (and I am real case scenario, by all means), when I was not aware of becoming public, I faced no embarrasement, no humiliation, only admiration, respect and welcoming. But, the moment I became aware, is different. Only Allah swt has truly comprehended, what I have come to comprehend now. I get clearly your shot, it waited for a good moment. Good for you and good for me. I am not embarrased, nor humiliated. At this point public humiliates just for the sake of wining, not for the sake of being right. You are right in what you say, and you have the scenario before 2005 to speak for it, as for after it, you are free to comment all the hadiths in the world. I believe it is a hadith for my scenario, but you wouldn't direct me as sister sabina isa either way (is simply what you have rooted in your minds, that goes), as everyone else, but simply sabina isa.
