Wudoo/Ghusl with braces?

Assalamu 'alaykum warahmatullah wabarakahtuh.

I got braces like 4/5 months ago, and I've been doing wudoo/ghusl the same way. It never occurred to me that the water doesn't touch my teeth underneath four of the metal brackets. So does that mean my wudoo/ghusl is invalid? I'm kinda freaking out right now. Help?

asalam aalikum. Use ur common sense and know that Allah is understanding and that ur a good striving Muslim. What do you want us to say? Remove the braces? Don't take it so seriously, continue making wudu as always and focus on things more important.

Wa-alaykum assalam wa rahmatullaah wa barakatuhuh,

Your question is absolutely fine, rather your concern for the validity of your wudu is a good thing.

The rinsing of the mouth isn't an obligatory act of wudu, it's a Sunnah, so whilst its mustahab to rinse the mouth three times, not doing it doesn't make your wudu invalid. You can still rinse your mouth with the braces in, in the hope of getting the reward for Sunnah, but no need to worry about the validity of the wudu overall.

Although, the shafi`ees and Maaliki's don't consider washing the mouth as waajib- it is still better to be on the safe side, especially if a person has not studied the opinions etc.

According the hanaabilah, it is waajib to wash the mouth. Nevertheless, having braces does not invalidate your wudoo' as "المضمضة" (rinsing the mouth) requires one to enter the water into the mouth and moving it in it. المضمضة does not require a person to wash his teeth

It's always good to make sure you're doing it right. And I think it's important... if the validity of your salaah depends on the validity of your wudoo, then of course it's important. :)
