I thought it was hilarious how he's asking to be saved from vegtarian dishes and just asking for meat, meat and more meat... And then he starts on his list of fruits and sweets. And after asking all sorts of things that one person could never eat all by himself he's all "Oh Allah, if there's anything I've forgotten, you please take care of it." Ha.

That is some menu, and he still thinks he has forgotten something. Isn't he going to save any requests for Jannah? :rolleyes-87:

Isn't Urdu just Hindi but with a different script?
brother Urdu and Hindi are completely two different languages...Urdu is more of a mixture of languages dominantly Arabic, Persian and Turkish...Urdu is national language of Pakistan and Hindi is national language of India...

Sister @Seeking Peace, actually spoken Urdu and Hindi are very similar if you don't use the higher-level words. You could speak many simple sentences which both Hindi speakers and Urdu speakers would understand.

You understand Urdu, Mahzala? I didn't know you could understand it fluently.

Yes, I can. I learned it through my exposure to Pakistani/Indian satellite television growing up. So, it goes without saying, I understand the language, I would say 90%, but do not speak it. There are so many other languages I would love to add to my speaking list, but then again, understanding is good enough in some cases =)

sister @Tabassum07 its not pure Urdu...its more of a sub-continent version of Urdu...so anyone from sub-continent can understand i think..

You're right, it was a dialect I have not heard of, but still, I could make out most of it, despite the poor sound quality. Or maybe it was just my earphones ...

The spoken dialects must be similar, and at an informal level, the similarities must be numerous, but in terms of literature, Hindi is pretty difficult compared to Urdu. The Hindi alphabet is modified Sanskrit, no? And Urdu is modified Persian/Arabic. And so these origins not only affect the dialects, but also the ease/difficulty of the spoken and written language.

I find it embarassing to say I actually find Hindi easier. I studied it all throughout school, yet I only studied Urdu for 3 years in grades 6-8th, and can barely read elementary Urdu. I actully like the archaic Arabic easier to read (with the fathah, dammah and kasrah).

That is not embarrassing at all. When you have studied a/in a language, not only are you inclined to it, your thoughts, your communication, your spoken and written word is all well articulated in that specific language. Besides English, which is that language for me, as in having studied it through to my postgraduate course, the other languages I know, read, write and understand are self-taught, so not only are the flaws endless, but the question of ease and difficulty in speaking, and the courage to initiate, is a big one for me. Unfortunately.

.....so, do we get a translation or not? :)

Welcome back, Janaan. Where did you go? A translation wouldn't be much help because he's basically saying "Ya Allah, save me from vegetables and give me meat dishes. Give me fruit juices. Save me from oil sweets and give me ones made in ghee." That's the entire gist of it.

Wa`alaikum salaam warahmatullaah!
Welcome back, Janaan. Where did you go?
Jazaakillahu khayraa, (you too aunty Mahzala!) I didn't go too far ukhty. What had happened was... I was diagnosed with TTI-addiction, so I went away to seek treatment for it, and I had participated in many TTIA meetings (turntoislam-Anonymous aka my own version of AA meets). I've been clean for almost a month now, it's getting easier day by day. :SMILY126:

But really, I wasn't even 'gone' for long and I missed you guys - 'tis good to be 'back', though not officially.

A translation wouldn't be much help because he's basically saying "Ya Allah, save me from vegetables and give me meat dishes. Give me fruit juices. Save me from oil sweets and give me ones made in ghee." That's the entire gist of it.
Ah I see what @Mahzala meant... there were one or two lists in there somewhere but you're only giving me three short sentences? Lol I'm *never* asking for translation again.
