Haha lol no. I used 2 onions and I divided them over to three families. The remaining one bit was for me and dad, all we got were like 3 fritters per person! :p

Quite oily, had to wipe off the oil with a wiping paper! But hey, it's okay to lose the calorie count once in a while, no? ;D

I was always taught that to make things you fry less oily, make sure when you take the cooked food out of the pan, the flame is on high - on low heat food absorbs more oil.

I can't take Sister Harb jumping around in excitement asking for the recipe, so I'll provide one recipe, okay? Ayesha, inshaAllah you can also put up your version as there must be differences in how we make this:

Gram flour (Besan)
Salt
Chili Powder
Cumin Powder
Water

Mix everything to make a thick paste of thick consistency.

Slice onions, dip in batter and deep fry till golden brown.

You can also use sliced potatoes, chopped up cauliflower, sliced eggplant, spinach leaves, etc etc etc to make these fritters. Personally I like a combination of chopped onions and potatoes in the batter. You can put it in the oil using a spoon, but we just use our fingers to do it :p

Oh.. I don't know about the quantity as I never measure, but sister is an awesome cook, so she'll manage.

Eat with ketchup or chutney (blend green chilies, coriandar, salt, cumin seeds, tiny bit of water)

Over here our version of making;
600 gm plain or raising flour add in water (not too watery)or it will turn out like pan cake ,just right when you can stir the combination smoothly but thick with your hand/spoon
then add;
1 or 2 big onion (slice)
1 or 2 fresh red chilly (slice)
can also add in some fresh prawns mince/whole
or dry anchovies
and some slice scallions (if want)
some baking powder(if plain flour) and dash of turmeric powder (if want)
and salts to taste
Let it rest for 5 mins then spoon it and fry it in hot oil not too hot or it will come out burn ,

Once when it turn light golden brown, fish it out from the oil
place it on the paper towel to filter oil, then fried the remaining till finish ( be careful the oil is HOT,)

To serve place it on another plate ,best to eat while still warm with your favorite sauce (can be chilly sauce or homed cook curry...etc) .
~Enjoy.
