Assalaamu alaikum
I just found on my PC a post I wrote to a non-muslim on another board to try and tell them about Proof of Qur'an. I now thought that of course, the reason I wrote this was for the purposes of Dawah insha'allah. Because I believe that Dawah is an obligation on us all and because I believe that research is a form of Dawah to ourselves - I am posting it here.
What I would like everyone to do please is have a look at it and tell me if I have not explained anything correctly or missed anything out. You marks and criticism insha'allah help me to 'brush up' and learn and keep things accurate and fresh for me - you never know when you may need to speak confidently or accuratly on this wonderous issue masha'allah.
It was with the help of dawah from some excellent brothers and sisters masha'allah that I came to Islam ( 4 years ago now!) and I would love to help pass on this gift to others insha'allah.
None can misguide those whom Allah swt guides and none can guide those whom Allah swt misguides.
But insha'allah helping others to have a chance of Jannah and His love insha'allah to fulfill their purpose is what we should all do.
So here it is. Please bare in mind it is written to a non-muslim and I wrote it about a year ago! Please give it your worst criticism!
"1st we must understand what perfect means. perfect mean flawless, best - agreed? Since little if anything in this world is perfect it can also mean divine - agreed?
The essence of Islam is the Qur'an. The Qur'an is divine and I will explain this to you. Firstly I must make the point that the Qur'an I refer to as divine=perfect is the Arabic Qur'an - the language of Allah swt that it was revealed in -not the English translations. They are not in fact translations but called transliterations as they are not an accurate meaning of the Arabic - this is why you may see slightly differing versions. For this post though since my Arabic is rusty and I am not sure you speak it - I shall use English quotes whose meaning is 99.9% accurate - the message in them is the same.
And if you (Arab pagans, Jews, and Christians) are in doubt concerning that which We have sent down (i.e. the Qur'an) to Our slave (Muhammad Peace be upon him ), then produce a surah (chapter) of the like thereof and call your witnesses (supporters and helpers) besides Allah, if you are truthful. Qur'an 2:23
Or do they say: "He (Muhammad(P)) has forged it?" Say: "Bring then a surah (chapter) like unto it, and call upon whomsoever you can, besides Allah, if you are truthful!" [Qur'an 10:37-38]
I am explaining to you that the Qur'an is perfect in itself since I cannot move on to show that its contents in meaning for mankind is perfect until you can realise that it itself is a divine miracle. The above quotes illustrate that the language of it is its miracle. Language as a whole is rated in terms of sentence structure, prose, meaning, grammar and use. The Quran is perfect in all thse spheres and it has been shown to be impossible for Man to reproduce such a likeness as perfect. for example, Shakespeare was thought of at his time as the most perfect writer, his literature was considered the best. Now in 2006 we can see that yes his literature was advanced for its time but is was not perfect in all these spheres - other writers have since then rivalled or bettered him. Furthermore his works over the years he wrote, differ in style, structure and quality. The Qur'an contains the challenge I have outlined above - reproduce it if you can but in over 1400 years no man has yet completed this challenge - if he could then the Islamic faith would have come to its knees. therefore since it is impossible to reproduce such a flawlessness then it is above man's power - then we can only come to the conclusion it is perfect=divine.
2. The Qur'an was also revealed over many years - if Mohammed pbuh had written it as some claim then his writing style would have improved or altered over the 30 chapters just as my writing skills are bette than they were when I was 10 years old and perhaps will be better when I am 50. It remains consistent from beginning to end. Furthermore Mohammed pbuh was illiterate - but the meaning applies still if another had written it for him.
The Qur'an has also not been altered or added to over the plus 1400 years by man as the Bible has (old and new testaments) since any addition or alteratin would undoubtedly stand out and be a flaw in the perfect structure.
It is divine in its being, a miracle meaning not of this world and as we see from futher quotes it is the word of Allah swt (God) directly revealed to us. Jesus pbuh had his miracles of his time (healing the sick, water to wine) and Moses pbuh had his (turning staff into snake) - at Mohammed's pbuh time many were illiterate. Language and literature were the miracles of his time. In order for us to recognise him as the Prophet he was, just as Jesus and Moses pbut were regonised by their miracles, he needed a miracle from Allah swt to show this. the Qur'an is that miracle.
It was revealed to us as a seal, a final Book to confirm the Books before - no book and no Prophet will ever come again and in order to secure this, this was another reason for Allah swt to make the Qur'an the miracle, divine, perfect itself. In order that it might not be changed.
And this Qur'an is not such as could ever be produced by other than Allah (Lord of the heavens and the earth), but it is a confirmation of (the revelation) which was before it [i.e. the Taurat (Torah), and the Injeel (Gospel), etc.], and a full explanation of the Book (i.e. laws and orders, etc, decreed for mankind) - wherein there is no doubt from the the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists).Qur'an 10:37-38
The above I ask you to research for your own accord and come to me with any questions you may have.
I shall leave you to ponder for a while, Peace."
I shall await your comments!!
Salaams
