Jazak Allahu khayr for your advice. I can understand how it looks to have other people do things that I do not do. But, it is not "hypocritical".
I think that you aught to be sensible.
We have to have rules in place so that evil does not occur. Some things which may be permissible, can be impermissible due to the way people abuse the trust they are given. So, in balance, those things are forbidden. That is the case with not allowing brothers/sisters to send PM or VM, etc.
I, and the other TTI team members are responsible for this whole site, and due to the job it involves having to communicate with people out of necessity. We have made this website and take advice from various Scholars, and we do our best to make it according to the Quran and Sunnah.
