Assalamo alaikum:
This winter when students got some time off from college they didn't waste it. Instead they choose a life partner for themselves. Which itself is remarkable. I would say that this winter break was a break to get married for most of my friends. Oh btw this is not about and TTI member, this is about my real-life friends from college.
Interestingly most of them were cross cultural marriages. Like Pakistani brother getting married to Egyptian sister. Bengali brother getting engaged to Yemeni sister. etc
However i would only write about 3 nikah's that were held in three different Environments. Then its up to you to decide which one was close to sunnah and which one do you intend to have (If not married) or which one you had (if already married).
1) First Marriage (Long Island City)
Men and women were mixed together. Well not like random mixing. Loud music and dance was going on. A lot of fun activities (horrible for the bride-groom) were being played on the bridegroom by the relatives of the bride (sister). Near the end of the wedding ceremoney, a time consuming photo session was held. Both the couples were sitting and bunch of relatives or friends took a photo with them.
2) Second Marriage (New Jersy):
In this kind of marriage, men and women had different places to sit or to socialize. Say like men on the lower level and women on the upper level. No music or music related activities were done on the men side. But on the women side, music and dance and other related activities were going on. (There were in such a way that men side couldn't hear them. Dont ask me how do i know what was happening on their side
)
The qari finished the protocols of the Nikah and after that the bridegroom went to the women area and had bunch of photo's with her wife in different poses.
3) Third Marriage (Flushing, NY):
This marriage was held in a Masjid. The lower level was for brother while the upper level was filled with sisters. Since this was a masjid, so there were no music or music related activities on both side.
The imam talked a lengthy lecture about the nikah and its obligation. It seemed that he was giving a jumma lecture lol.
We the friends of the bridegroom had few photos will the bridegroom and that it. This was the most simplest marriage i have ever seen. Matter of fact they didn't had to spend thousands of dollars.
An interesting thing about this marriage is that the sister is staying in her father's house for the time being since both of them are students at this age.
btw dinner was served in all the above 3 marriages..hahha
