Alright so about this aspiration, it is confusing and it is annoying. I sometimes feel its illogical and sometimes I feel like wow. I find it hard to explain to anyone. I don't know if its bad or good. Its so hard :salah:

Also what exactly is the ghayb? Is it the unseen, hidden, unknown or what?
And if the unseen is relative to a person then isn't the ghayb relative to a person so its not really ghayb anymore?
Also what is the keys to the ghayb? Like is it metaphorical or like actual keys? Are there multiple of them?
Isn't theses keys or the ghayb more then the knowledge of the hour?
Also is what the scholars opine (like how the keys are absolute knowledge, capacity/power of creation and destruction, power beyond power, etc.) okay? Or is it a sin to think that?
Why is my aspiration confusing?

HELP :(

Knowledge of the unseen is something that Allaah has kept for Himself, as is indicated by the texts of the Qur’aan and Sunnah. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Say: “None in the heavens and the earth knows the Ghaib (Unseen) except Allaah, nor can they perceive when they shall be resurrected”
[al-Naml 27:65]

“And with Him are the keys of the Ghayb (all that is hidden), none knows them but He. And He knows whatever there is in the land and in the sea; not a leaf falls, but He knows it. There is not a grain in the darkness of the earth nor anything fresh or dry, but is written in a Clear Record”
[al-An’aam 6:59]

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) explained these keys as referring to five things which are mentioned in Soorat Luqmaan, where Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“Verily, Allaah, with Him (Alone) is the knowledge of the Hour, He sends down the rain, and knows that which is in the wombs. No person knows what he will earn tomorrow, and no person knows in what land he will die. Verily, Allaah is All‑Knower, All‑Aware (of things)”
[Luqmaan 31:34].

Al-Bukhaari narrated in his Saheeh (hadeeth no. 4477) that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: “Whoever tells you that he knows what will happen tomorrow is lying.” Then she recited, “No person knows what he will earn tomorrow.”

But with regard to this matter it is important to know what is the unseen the knowledge of which Allaah has kept to Himself, because al-ghayb (the unseen) means that which is not seen, and that which is not seen may be either that which is not seen by all of creation – both those who are in the heavens and those who are on earth – this kind of unseen is known to no one but Allaah, and this is that which is called al-ghayb al-mutlaq (the unseen in the absolute sense); or this unseen matter may be unseen for some people, and known to some others. This is called unseen for the one who is ignorant of it, but it is not unseen or unknown to all people, and knowledge of it is not unique to Allaah. Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Sharh al-‘Aqeedah al-Waasitiyyah (p. 158): What is meant by the unseen is that which is not seen. The unseen is something relative. But that which is unseen in the absolute sense (al-ghyab al-mutlaq) is known only to Allaah. End quote.

What fortune-tellers say of things that will happen in the future has nothing to do with the unseen or with knowledge of the unseen, and it is not knowledge of what will happen in the future. Rather they are liars who make false claims. But the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) has told us that they steal knowledge of that which Allaah has revealed to His angels. It was narrated that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: Some people asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) about fortune-tellers, and he said: “They are nothing.” They said: O Messenger of Allaah, they say something and it comes true. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “That is a word of truth which the jinni snatches and cackles into the ear of his familiar like the cackling of a hen, and they mix more than one hundred lies with it.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari (7561).

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) explained how the jinn steal this word. He said: “…when our Lord, may His name be blessed and exalted, decrees some matter, the bearers of the Throne glorify Him, then the people of heaven who are closest to them glorify Him, until the tasbeeh reaches the people of the lowest heaven. Then those who are nearest to the bearers of the Throne say: What did your Lord say? And they tell them what He said. And the people of heaven ask one another for the news, until the news reaches the lowest heaven. Then the eavesdropping jinn snatch what they can and convey it to their familiars. What they narrated as they heard it is true, but they add lies to it.” Narrated by Muslim (2229).

From this it is clear that the jinn do not have knowledge of the unseen, rather they steal words that they hear from the angels, but the angels themselves do not have any knowledge of that unless Allaah tells them of it. After they are told of it, it is no longer regarded as unseen in the absolute sense, but before that they are like anyone else in creation and do not know anything of the unseen. This depends on Allaah’s telling them of it. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
““(He Alone is) the All‑Knower of the Ghayb (Unseen), and He reveals to none His Ghayb (Unseen)”
[al-Jinn 72:26].

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: The noblest of the angelic Messengers, Jibreel, asked the noblest of the human Messengers, Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), “Tell me about the Hour.” He said: “The one who is asked about it is does not know any more about it than the one who is asking” meaning, just as you have no knowledge of it, I have no knowledge of it either. End quote.

Okay i get what you said, my dear brother Abuseer already put the exact same thing. Also what is the unknown in Islam? And to be exact so the ghayb is like the time of judgement, whats happens in the future and stuff like that? Does the same go for the keys to the Ghayb? So what does it mean when Allah says in the Quran "he knows what is secret and even more hidden" what is it that its hidden (any idea )? Also for your translation for Surah for [al-An’aam 6:59] isn't it suppose to be something like With him are the keys to the unseen (what is hidden), a divine treasure that none posses but him? Also is it wrong to dream about this or to aspire it? Also please read the threads brothers and sisters, it will give you some background information of whats been discussed :)

Also you have left some questions unanswered

You seem to be very interested in the ghayp. We believe in the ghayp even if we can not capture it with our minds. Because we believe in Allah. Why don´t you focus on the knowledge which Allah has not hidden.

Study His 99 names for example. It is confusing to think about something which Allah has hidden. The unseen. We only know what we need to know to be successfull in this world and hearafter. You should divert your aspiration.

Ghayb – It’s Meaning and Sources

Ghayb or Unseen includes everything that is hidden from the people of the future and past events, and what is not seen. Ghayb is exclusive to Allah’s knowledge.[1] Imam Ibn Katheer (rahimahullah) writes in the Tafseer of the following verse, “Those who have faith in the Ghayb…”[2] - “They believe in Allah, the Angels, Books, Messengers, the Last Day, His Paradise, Fire and the meeting of Him.”

From the matters of the Unseen are those pertaining to the Hereafter, Barzakh (life after death), Paradise, Hellfire, contents of the womb and secrets of the hearts, as mentioned in many Qur’aanic verses.

Allah says: “Verily, Allah! With Him (Alone) is the knowledge of the Hour, He sends down the rain, and knows that which is in the womb. No person knows what he will earn tomorrow, and no person knows what land he will die. Verily, Allah is All-Knower, All-Aware.”[3]

And: “No doubt! They did fold up their breasts that they may hide from Him. Surely, even when they cover themselves with their garments, He knows what they conceal and what they reveal. Verily, He is the All-Knower of the (innermost secrets) of the breasts.”[4]

Our Only Source to the Knowledge of the Unseen

The Pagans of Mecca at the time of Allah’s Messenger made many claims about the matters of the Unseen, like saying that they would have wealth and status in the Hereafter, or their claim that Allah had daughters. Allah, Glorified is He, rejected their claims saying, “Or have they a stairway (to Heaven), by means of which they listen? Then let their listeners produce some manifest proof. “[5] …this is because the Arab Pagans had no means of receiving the knowledge of the Unseen.

Even events from the past nations who lived on the same earth as they, were from the Ghayb (unseen) to them, let alone the knowledge of Allah and the Hereafter. Allah mentioned the conditions of the people of Noah (alaihi as-salaam) in the Qur’aan, and then said, “This is of the news of the Unseen, which we reveal unto you (O Muhammad), neither you, nor your people knew them before this.”[6]

Allah does not reveal the Ghayb to anyone except to His Messengers from amongst humans and Angels. Allah says, “He is the Knower of the Unseen, and He does not reveal His secrets to anyone. Except to him whom He chooses namely, a Messenger of His.”[7] Allah has restricted this information because reporting about the Unseen is among the signs of Prophethood. Allah revealed many matters of the Unseen to His Messenger, Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) who informed us of them. Thus, he (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) is our one and only source of information of the Ghayb. Allah says about him, “And He (Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam)) withhold not knowledge of the Unseen”[8] (i.e. he is not stingy in conveying the revelation [see, Tafseer Ibn Katheer]).”

Revelation and Guidance from Allah continued throughout the 23 year old life of the Prophethood of Allah’s Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam). Upon his death, our source to knowledge about the Unseen and direct guidance from Allah, the Most High, has ended. We have to therefore, suffice with what has reached us from the Messenger about the Unseen.

Dear Brother, I have read your post. Very imformative and clear indeed. So i wish to ask you this. So the ghayb and the "keys to the ghayb" are the knowledge of the hour only? Like i thought it was more. Then what does Allah mean when he says what is "secret and even more hidden"? Why would i have these dreams? Also please read my other post that i linked on this thread, because other brothers are saying otherwise. Also id like you tell you about this book I read and its called the "Great Beyond" and it says that scholars opine the "keys to the ghayb" to be either absolute knowledge, or the capacity of creation/destruction, or powers beyond (as absolute knowlege is power beyond). So which one should i follow? that the ghayb is pretaning to the knowledge of the hour or it is pretaning to absolute knowledge and stuff? Also what about my dreams? I can't remember them, but i have a wierd feeling about it?

Also i have read this site: "http://www.islamicacademy.org/html/Articles/English/ilm_e_Ghaib.htm" and it seems to say otherwise, its saying the ghayb is more then the mere knowledge of the hour or the 5 knowledge (time of judgement, location or the hearafter, the future and the past, etc.) can u care to elaborate?

Assalaamu alaykum ,
dear brother,

So i wish to ask you this. So the ghayb and the "keys to the ghayb" are the knowledge of the hour only? Like i thought it was more.

So as again I say the afterlife, life in barzakh, hell, paradise, judgement, and other that is known to us through qur’aan and sunnah.

Then what does Allah mean when he says what is "secret and even more hidden"?
It’s the matters that Allaah subhanahu only knows. Who could perceive and know what Allaah declares secret and hidden ?

Also id like you tell you about this book I read and its called the "Great Beyond" and it says that scholars opine the "keys to the ghayb" to be either absolute knowledge, or the capacity of creation/destruction, or powers beyond (as absolute knowlege is power beyond).
Great Beyond: ‘Higher Dimensions, Parallel Universes and the Extraordinary Search for a Theory of Everything’

Are you mentioning this book ? I searched that. If that is then…

Such study is nothing but human perception/understanding. Edition/deletion is never denied.Understanding Islam through such books destroys our beliefs or confuse/raise doubt about the dhaat and sifaat of Allaah and the aqeedah that is always streesed through qur’aan and sunnah . At many stages there are statements of disbelief or the foundational principle itself a disbelief. On the contrary,we believe and have faith on what is in qur’aan and saheeh sunnah and take it as a guidance. -on that we are told to rely.

Second thing is the author is not a muslim,so should we be relying on him for our religion? or learning islam in a way as atheists and proponents of materialism do!

So which one should i follow? that the ghayb is pretaning to the knowledge of the hour or it is pretaning to absolute knowledge and stuff?
As what qur’aan and sunnah says of ghayb we have to believe in that.apart from that there is no source that could inform us about it. The matters of birth-death, distribution of rizq, secrets of hearts, gender of baby in womb, can anyone tell about?

Also what about my dreams? I can't remember them, but i have a wierd feeling about it?
your basic question was ‘aspiration of knowing the unseen’. I think the below link has some good information regarding what the scholars of islaam have said about that. the references are from shaykh-ul-islaam Ibn taiymiyyah, his student shaykh Ibn al qayyim jawziyyah and shaykh Muhammad naseeruddin Albani on the matter. go through that, InshaaAllaah.
The link : http://www.islamqa.com/en/ref/12778/kashf

Also i have read this site: "http://www.islamicacademy.org/html/Articles/English/ilm_e_Ghaib.htm" and it seems to say otherwise, its saying the ghayb is more then the mere knowledge of the hour or the 5 knowledge (time of judgement, location or the hearafter, the future and the past, etc.) can u care to elaborate?
The site you mentioned is the site of Sufism. In its fatwa section a fatwa that states ‘writing the name Muhammad (salAllahu alayhi wasallam) and ghouspak (sufi pir) is taking help from them and it is allowed.

What qur’aan says regarding the deads and calling them for help.

If you invoke (or call upon) them, they hear not your call; and if (in case) they were to hear, they could not grant it (your request) to you. And on the Day of Resurrection, they will disown your worshipping them. And none can inform you (O Muhammad) like Him Who is the All-Knower (of everything)”
[Faatir 35:13-14 – interpretation of the meaning]

So He calls their prayers to others shirk.

And Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And who is more astray than one who calls on (invokes) besides Allaah, such as will not answer him till the Day of Resurrection, and who are (even) unaware of their calls (invocations) to them?
And when mankind are gathered (on the Day of Resurrection), they (false deities) will become their enemies and will deny their worshipping”
[al-Ahqaaf 46:6]

So Allaah tells us that those who are called upon other than Him, the Prophets and the righteous, are unaware of the call of those who call upon them and will never respond to their calls, and they will be their enemies and will deny their worship of them.

it too has over-exaltation of the status of Muhammad (salAllaahu alayhi wasallam), take him as helper, all-knower, knower of ghayb , hadhir naadhir ,Prophet's birth-day and so on.

what qur’aan say about him (salAllahu alayhi wasallam)

Allaah said to His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him):
“Verily, you (O Muhammad) will die, and verily, they (too) will die” [al-Zumar 39:30]

And Allaah said (interpretation of the meaning):
“Muhammad is no more than a Messenger, and indeed (many) Messengers have passed away before him. If he dies or is killed, will you then turn back on your heels (as disbelievers)?” [Aal ‘Imraan 3:144]

“And We granted not to any human being immortality before you (O Muhammad); then if you die, would they live forever? [al-Anbiyaa’ 21:34]
Abu Bakr (may Allaah be pleased with him) said, in his speech after the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) had died, “Whoever used to worship Muhammad, Muhammad has died, but whoever used to worship Allaah, Allaah is Alive and will never die.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari).

This and similar evidence indicates that Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was a human being like all other human beings, who died as they die, and will never be immortal just as no one before him was immortal.

Whoever wants to put the Prophet beyond the human realm and claim that the Prophet is present in all places, is the one who should be asked to produce evidence (daleel). How does he know that the Prophet is omnipresent at all times? Moreover, those who make the same claim with regard to Allaah (should know that) this is kufr, deviation and misguidance. This belief implies that Allaah is present even in dirty places like bathrooms etc. – Glorified be Allaah far above what they say.

So after all, learning the deen should be through the reliable scholars who have traversed or are traversing the way of sunnah with the understanding of salaf-saalih.

And, These are the good articles in understanding the principles and basic of tafseer, and how it should be performed ? I wish that you read them, inshaaAllaah.

yeah....

Brother i linked the book "The Great Beyond" also, what else has the Quran said, because my interest for the unknown/unseen/hidden and for the ghayb and its "keys" came from the quran. So yeah. Also so your pretty much just confusing me again. Pretty much these keys of the ghayb is the ghayb as a whole, it does'nt only pretain to the "Knowledge of the Hour" (the ones that you speak of, like the content of the womb, the past and the future, death, afterlife, etc.) Also please read it and you'll understand me. AND well i don't know what else to say...

As what qur’aan and sunnah says of ghayb we have to believe in that.apart from that there is no source that could inform us about it. The matters of birth-death, distribution of rizq, secrets of hearts, gender of baby in womb, can anyone tell about?

your basic question was ‘aspiration of knowing the unseen’.

My dear brother,
I have a problem with opening pdf format. So I will InshaaAllaah go to café computer and have a look at that. back to you soon inshaaAllaah with that.

Like to reply... when we are learning we need to know, what to learn? How to learn ? whom to learn ? If we are going in a right direction then InshaaAllaah we will come out with correct guidance and there will be no misgidance, confusion what-so-ever.As we ask in every salaat

5. Thee do we worship, and Thine aid we seek.
6. Show us the straight way,
7. The way of those on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy Grace, those whose (portion) is not wrath, and who go not astray

"Surah al-fatiha"

We should be knowing what affects thesound aqeedah that is from qur’aan and sunnah. And against the deen that is sent to remove people from misguidance, deviation, pure and clear.

- And A Striving on following Upon the deen in the true sense.-Leaving the path of whims desires and likes-dislikes.

learning is from the very foundation- tawheed. That is knowing What is the meaning of absolute lordship of Allaah? Who the servant of Allaah is ?

and with it doing obligatory and superoragatory works is seeking the love of Allaah. performing the acts of ibaadah, dhikr and other acts of sunnah.
as the hadith below refers.

narrated from Abu Hurayrah who said:
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah says: ‘Whosoever shows enmity to someone devoted to Me, I shall be at war with him. My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him. When I love him I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him, and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it.” al-Bukhaari (6502)

And The conditions of sweetness of faith as mentioned in the hadith
Anas bin. Mâlik relates that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "If anyone possesses three qualities, he will experience the sweetness of faith: That Allah and His Messenger are dearer to him than anything else, that he loves another person solely for Allah's sake, and that he hates lapsing into unbelief as much as he would hate being cast into the fire."
[Sahîh al-Bukhârî (15) and Sahîh Muslim (60)]

and sharing some inspirational sayings of Ibn taiymiyyah (rahimahullah),

Guidance is not attained except with knowledge and correct direction is not attained except with patience. -. Majmoo’ al-Fatawa [10/40]

The one who is (truly) imprisoned is the one whose heart is imprisoned from Allah and the captivated one is the one whose desires have enslaved him.-( Ibn al-Qayyim, al-Wabil page 69 )

The whole religion revolves around knowing the truth and acting by it, and actions must be accompanied by patience.- Majmoo’ al-Fatawa [10/38]
Worship is founded upon the Legal Law and following it, not upon ones basic desires and innovation.- Majmoo’ al-Fatawa [1/80]

If you do not taste the sweetness of an action in your heart, suspect it, for the Lord, Exalted is He, is the Appreciative. - Ibn al-Qayyim, Madarij [2/68]

The perfection of Tauhid is found when there remains nothing in the heart except Allah, the servant is left loving those He loves and what He loves, hating those He hates and What He hates, showing allegiance to those He had allegiance to, showing enmity to those He shows enmity towards, ordering what He orders and prohibiting what He prohibits - Ibn al-Qayyim, al-Madarij [3/485]

In this world, man finds in the remembrance of Allah, praising Him and worshipping Him, a delight that is in comparable to anything else.- Minhaj as-Sunnah [5/389]

Ibn Taimiyyah wrote, “Remembrance of Allah is to the heart what water is to fish. What happens to a fish when it is taken out of water?”

And Imam ibn al-Qayyim wrote: “Remembrance of Allah is sustenance for both the heart and the spirit. If the servant is deprived of it he becomes like a body which has been deprived of food.”

Salam brother,

Did u read the PDF?

I actually understand..yes the 5 items in surat luqman are indeed ghayb as there not know..but they aren't the keys to the ghayb or the ghayb (beyond) itself...as by definition we might never know...it could be infinite..have no limit...as it is in Allahs knowledge and is with him and we can't like encompass that..the ghayb and its keys may be limitless....infinite :angryblue: *shudders*
