Martyr

Salam

The people who are arguing whether Mahatma was a martyr or not...the word martyr is NOT solely used for Islam - it has been used for many religions for a long time. Look at the definition below. Now, as to whether he is a jihadist, that is a different story. By the definition of martyr, Mahatma WAS a martyr.

I do also beleive that it's healthier for us to recognize that concept of Jihad is more advanced and specific than "Martyr" (Another translation issue) Even though non-believers may have their own jihad, since it is not fisabillillah (for the sake of Allah Ta'ala alone) the reward may indeed be limited to this temporary Dunya if much.
While drawing parelels is really fruitful while doing daw'ah or religious dialogue, keeping our Deen straight and recognizing and communicating its inherent superiority when due and appropriate is crucial. The balance, the middle straight path should be followed.
May Allah Ta'ala allow us to see and stay on the path of Haqq, Islaam.
WaAllaahu 'Aalim.
