There is only one sahabi mentioned by name in the Quran, but he is not one of the righteous caliphas. The verse does not need much interpretation, it is clear based on well known events that Abu-Bakr is the one the ayah addresses. Anyone who is ignorant of this is denying events that took place, or their understanding of the arabic language is very poor.

Ask your shi'i "friend" why the Prophet :saw: praised Abu-Bakr and Omar and Uthmaan and Ali radiyaa Allaahu 'anhum so much. Ask him if he realizes that the Muslimeen regard all of these four companions as the best of leaders. Would Allaah entrust leadership of a growing nation to a group of corrupt and feeble minded individuals? Or was the Prophet :saw: a fake, and he really didn't know who he should keep as close friends?

Ask him one question: what is the reason that Abu-Bakr was a bad human being that everyone should hate?

Or they claim 'Aisha is an adulteress. Ask them would Allaah choose for His greatest messenger Muhammad :saw: an adulteress, a woman who is filthy and impure?

If he believes in all of this, tell him than how can you claim to be a Muslim and how could one accept Islam as the final true message from God with all of these profound and inexplicable flaws that would have lead to the demise of this religion?

Allaah selected the greatest human being as His final messenger. And for His messenger :saw: he selected the best of nations to accompany him, indeed the most righteous after the prophets. That is only befitting of a perfect religion.

Assalamu alaikum!

The Quranic verse you were searchng for is as follows:

Tawbah 9:40

"If you do not aid the Prophet - Allah has already aided him when those who disbelieved had driven him out [of Makkah] as one of two, when they were in the cave and he said to his companion, "Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us." And Allah sent down his tranquillity upon him and supported him with angels you did not see and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowest, while the word of Allah - that is the highest. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise."

Based on the history of Islam, the companion that was accompanying the prophet peace be upon him was Abu Bakr Siddique (radiyallahu anhu = may Allah be pleased with him).

I understand that it was Abu bakr saddiq and after watching some videos the shiekh always say it was abu bakr.. DOes anyone know what a shiai belief towards this is? If I show him he will say excuse you ? Where does it say ABu bakr... I assume in their hadiths it says Ali or something, anyone have knowledge on this subject

The reason why I took a special liking and interest to this subject is because if I can prove somehow that Abu bakr saddiq was the companion in the cave, and Allah ta'ala calling him a sahabi then how can he be a kaffer when Allah azza wa jal called him a sahabi.
So is there any proof that is neutral, like a shiai would say yeah your right it was abu bakr? or does anyone know their aqeedah regarding this issue?

Al-Lail

Far removed from it will be the righteous (17) Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). (18) And none hath with him any favour for reward, (19) Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. (20) He verily will be content. (21) 92:17-21

The Cause of this Revelation and the Virtue of Abu Bakr

Many of the scholars of Tafsir have mentioned that these Ayat were revealed about Abu Bakr As-Siddiq. Some of them even mentioned that there is a consensus among the Qur'anic commentators concerning this. There is no doubt that he is included in the meaning of these Ayat, and that he is the most deserving of the Ummah to be described with these characteristics in general, for indeed, the wording of these Ayat is general. As in Allah's saying,

(And those with Taqwa will be far removed from it. He who gives of his wealth for self-purification. And who has (in mind) no favor from anyone to be paid back.) However, he (Abu Bakr) was the first and foremost of this Ummah to have all of these characteristics and other praiseworthy characteristics as well. For verily, he was truthful, pious, generous, charitable, and he always spent his wealth in obedience of His Master (Allah) and in aiding the Messenger of Allah . How many Dirhams and Dinars did he spend seeking the Face of His Most Noble Lord. And did not consider any of the people as owning him some favor that he needed to get compensation for. Rather, his virtue and kindness was even shown towards leaders and chiefs from all the other tribes as well. This is why `Urwah bin Mas`ud, who was the chief of the Thaqif tribe, said to him on the day of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, "By Allah, if I did not owe you a debt, which I have not paid you back for, I would have responded to you (i.e., your call to Islam).'' Abu Bakr As-Siddiq became angry with him for saying such a thing (i.e., I owe you something). So if this was his position with the chiefs of the Arabs and the heads of the tribes, then what about those other than them. Thus, Allah says,

(And who has (in mind) no favor from anyone to be paid back. Except to seek the Face of his Lord, the Most High. He, surely, will be pleased.) And in the Two Sahihs it is recorded that the Messenger of Allah said,

«مَنْ أَنْفَقَ زَوْجَيْنِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ دَعَتْهُ خَزَنَةُ الْجَنَّةِ يَاعَبْدَاللهِ، هَذَا خَيْر»

(Whoever equipped two riding animals in the way of Allah, the Gatekeepers of Paradise will call to him saying, "O servant of Allah! This is good.'') So Abu Bakr said, "O Messenger of Allah! The one who is called from them will not have any need. Will there be anyone who will be called from all of them'' The Prophet replied,

«نَعَمْ ، وَأَرْجُو أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنْهُم»

(Yes, and I hope that you will be one of them.) This is the end of the Tafsir of Surat Al-Layl, and all praise and thanks are due to Allah.

On the day he accepted Islaam, he had in his possession forty-thousand Dirhams (a unit of currency at that time) and he spent it all for the needs of Islaam.15 This charity of his earned him the statement of Allaah’s Messenger (No wealth ever benefited me as the wealth of Abu Bakr did. 16

Upon hearing this, Abu Bakr cried and said, “Am I and my wealth for anything but you, oh Messenger of Allaah?” He was even better than the believer who believed at the time of the Pharaoh because they hid their faith17 while Abu Bakr publicized his. He is also better than the

hate him, there is within your hearts fire when he is mentioned and every time his merits are recited, as shame and disgrace overcome you. Have the disbelieving Rawaafidh21 not heard:

As one of the two, when they were in the cave.
[Soorah At-Tawbah, 9:40]

He was called to Islaam and accepted without hesitancy.22 He traversed upon his goal, never stumbling or falling. He remained patient through all times, never diverting from the path. He increased in spending, never withholding until death intervened. By Allaah, he added (in charity) to every Deenaar (another form of currency) a Deenaar.

As one of the two, when they were in the cave.
[Soorah At-Tawbah, 9:40]
Who was the close companion during his (the Prophet’s) youth?
Who was the first and foremost to come to faith from his companions?
Who was always quick to offer his company and quick to respond to him (the Prophet)?
the Tafseer scholars said that these verses were revealed about Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq (r.a) and some even said this was a unanimous agreement. No doubt he is included in them. More so, they (the verses) are general for the entire nation as their wording is general… However, he is certainly the foremost of this nation and the first to be described with these characteristics.”

20 The details of this oath of allegiance are recorded by Al-Bukhaaree (no. 3667-3668).
21 They are the extreme Shee’ahs (Shiites) who declare the companions of Allaah’s Messenger (s.a.w) to be disbelievers.
22 Al-Bukhaaree recorded (no. 3661) from Abu Ad-Dardaa (r.a) that the Prophet (s.a.w) said:

Indeed, Allaah sent me to you and you said, “You are lying,” while Abu Bakr said, “He speaks the truth.” He supported me with himself and is wealth. So won’t you then leave my companion alone?

16 Authentic – Recorded by An-Nasaaee in “Al-Kubraa” (9 – The Merits of the Companions), Ibn Maajah (no. 94), Ahmad (2/253), Ibn Abee Shaybah (12/6-7), and Ibn Hibbaan (6858) from Abu Hurayrah (r.a).

Who was the first to pray with him?
Who was the last to pray beside him?
Who slept next to him after death in the same dirt (their graves being side-by-side)? So know the rights of the neighbor.23
He (r.a) rose up on the day of apostasy (when many people were apostatizing from Islaam), making clear the texts of the Book (the Quraan) with precision and perception.24
Those who love him (Abu Bakr) rejoice when hearing his virtues, while the hateful increase in fury and rage. How disgraceful the Raafidhee is as he flees from his mention. Yet, from this, there is no escape so where will he go?
How often did he protect and support the Messenger (s.a.w) with is wealth and his self? He was the closest to him (s.a.,w) in life and the grave (buried next to him). His merits are exemplary and he was totally free of doubts (in his faith). It is truly amazing how one would attempt to conceal the shine of the sun!

They both entered the cave together where no one had ever resided. The Truthful felt isolated from the fear of events to come. So the Messenger (s.a.w) comforted him saying, “What do you think of two, the third of whom is Allaah?” Tranquility was sent down as the fear of events was raised up. Worry was removed as the residents felt comfort and security while the caller of victory proclaimed to all the lands:

As one of the two, when they were in the cave.
[Soorah At-Tawbah, 9:40]
Loving him, by Allaah, is a sign of the sincere worshippers, while hatred of him proves the inner wickedness of one’s mind. He was the best companion and the best relative and the evidence of

23 Ibn Katheer said in “Bidaayah wan-Nihaayah” (7/18), “Allaah brought them both together in dirt as He brought them together in life. So may Allaah be pleased with him and may He cause him to be pleased.”

soundness of his leadership, Ibn Al-Hanafiyyah would not have spoken his statement.25 At this, the blood of the Rawaafidh deliberately boils.
By Allaah, we’ve not loved him from our own personal desires, nor do we believe everyone else besides him is humiliated and belittled. We’ve only taken the statement of ‘Alee (r.a) because it’s sufficient for us, “Allaah’s Messenger was pleased with you in charge of our religion, so how could we not be pleased with you in charge of our worldly affairs?” By Allaah, you have enraged the Rawaafidh.
By Allaah, it’s incumbent on us to respect the rights of the Truthful. We admit his praiseworthy characteristics and we accept what’s been narrated about him. So whoever may be a Raafidhee, let him never return to us and let him never claim he has any excuse!
25 The author is referring to what Muhammad Ibn ‘Uthmaan Ibn Abee Shaybah narrated in “Al-Isaabah” (2/342) from Saalim Ibn Abee Al-Ja’d who asked Muhammad Ibn Al-Hanafiyyah, “What is it about Abu Bakr that he is given such preference in that no one else among them (the companions) is mentioned along with him?” He replied, “Because he was the best of them in Islaam as soon as he accepted Islaam and he continued that way until Allaah took him.”
