Praise be to Allah!

Praise be to Allaah.

Our advice to this young man who is heading in the right direction, in sha Allah, is:

1. He should always ask Allah to keep him steadfast and on the right path.

2. He should read the Qur'aan a great deal and ponder its meanings, because this Qur'aan has a great impact on the heart, if one reads it carefully and ponders it.

3. He should strive to do acts of worship regularly, without getting bored or feeling lazy, because the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) sought refuge with Allah from incapability and laziness.

4. He should strive to keep company with good people and avoid keeping company with bad people.

5. He should advise himself when his nafs is influencing him and should say to himself: The distance is far and the path is long, let him advise himself to be steadfast, because Paradise is surrounded with difficult things and Hell is surrounded with whims and desires.

6. He should keep away from bad friends, even if they were his friends before, because bad friends will influence him. Hence the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “The likeness of a bad companion is that of the one who works the bellows: either he will burn your clothes or you will notice a bad smell from him.” End quote.

I am no way even like a hair compared to this sheik, ra. But may I add something, that I have found out through observation.

I notice mashAllah, many are learning through mediums like the internet, myself included. This has been very good.

last night after isha, there was an incident. A 20 year old came to the masjid, I have seen him come at many prayers last few weeks. I started to notice him doing things that are not normal. Like he would tayamam, across the street of the masjid with mud, and there is snow here. There is also a great abundance of water and the masjid has a nice place to perform abolution. I was patient. well last night he came in with a can of air refreshener at isha. He started spraying it and arguing with others about how the prophet, PBUH said be clean and smell nice. A friend of mine, talked to him, that there is a lot of people here, many old, and there may be a danger of someone with asma or breathing disorder. He replied with an overtone and said the prophet, PBUH said this and this.

I could tell he was speaking with some facts, but what he lacked was observing the harm of an action, thus lack of knowledge. It is one thing to have information, it is another thing to know how to apply that information.

Allah, swt, has established for muslims an incredible institution. That is the masjid. Extremely important, to learn and converse with others especially those who are well grounded in fiqh and other types of disciplines. This is why the jama'a is expressed in when we say ahl As-sunnah wal jama'a.

Having said that, we you start to feel more religious, try your best to be a part of the masjid. There you may find good company, but you will definitely obtain better understanding on application of what you learned. And the get a greater reward for praying there too.
