Salam alaykum

just was wondering how do you advice people in religious issues when they are your parent, older friend, neighbour...basically it has to be done with hikma but i dont know how to go about it especially with people who are older because when you advice them time and time again you are told i am older than you ive known islam before you was born..!!! is making dua enough...as muslims we have to forbid the evil and enjoin the good...would like to hear your comments and experiences jazkallah

Salaam,

Hey abayoo welcome in the club, i was in the same situation as you, i actually made threads about that, but didnt receive proper advise .. i guess you gotta know how to speak to different people.. older ones, if they get the impression you're telling them off and take it the wrong way then :(.. inshallah, someone will post something better.

I think it depends on ur tone, whether u r imposing something or just saying it. Try bringing up the subject and just discuss it and instead of correcting them in their face, do it indirectly.
is this confusing?

Salaam,

Let the wise one give you some suggestions. First of all we must start with BismilAllah Ar-Rahman, Ar-Raheem. Second we must belive that an elder has some wisdom. Think most belivers have survived much of life's trails and still belive with more adoration. Third, if you have something sound to say..they will listen.
I listen to most of you. I may not agree with eveything but I listen. And when I see one worthy of Truth..I most definetly agree.
Hope this helps.

asalamualaykum,

Let me just start saying wisdom is the key!

look at the Quran,

A similar (favour have ye already received) in that We have sent among you a Messenger of your own, rehearsing to you Our Signs, and sanctifying you, and instructing you in Scripture and Wisdom, and in new knowledge.

2:151

That is what we are lacking today, mant times i have seen so-called practising brothers and sisters Naseeha to elders is doing more harm then good cos they start get emotional and they lack Sabr (Patience).

and thats the next thing, Patience! we need to be very very very ... Patient!

Seek help in patience and prayer; and truly it is hard save for the humble-minded..2:45,

these our instructions from Allah so lets follow them and Allah knows best!
