the man can be a good brother that simply has to work harder in lowering his gaze. the reason why he contacted you in the first place is because he failed to lower his gaze. the reason why we have the prohibition of mingling with the opposite sex is because islam is a religion of prevention and not one of intervention and it's best to not put oneself in those type of situations.
since he has no longer been trying to contact you, you should take it as one of two ways: the first is that he simply gave up in his pursuit of having an illicit relationship with you or that he saw the errors of his ways and repented to ALLAH about the situation. i say to consider the latter, that he repented.
