Thanks for asking this, akhi. I've had this question since Day 1 of the new layout. On the left hand side, there's a little slider tab which constantly moves up and down as we scroll the page - it has links to tweet, like on facebook, and something else on Google.
I too would like to know if we can turn this option off anywhere?

I think they removed that, atleast I am not able to see it today.
If you have problem with some feature of website, you can use grease monkey script or something similar to adjust it according to your need for yourself.
