I was listening to a Quranic recitation and Allah SWT Says that if the Quran were to be sent to a mountain it would be "humbled". Does that mean mountains are alive , In a way ? and if they are, then what would happen to them in the day of judgement on Earth ? Will they be crushed on the Day of Judgement ?

this is a good observation... wat i think is that the mountains act as to stabilize the earth.
so they are considered to be strong and big which we cant think of collapsing ...
so may be i dont know, this is to show the intensity of the contents of holy Quran...
inshallah we cud learn something more from my brothers and sisters...

:shake:may Almighty bestow his mercy upon us...aameen!!!

subhan allah, i read this the other day.

Wonders of Allah(s.w.t) Creations
How Mountains Strengthen the Earth's Crust

The Earth's crust, the surface on which we daily walk and build our houses safely, in fact moves on a layer called the mantle which is denser than the crust.

If there was not a system in place to keep this motion under control, continual shocks and quakes would occur on the Earth and the world would be a truly unlivable place.

And yet, the mountains and their extensions under the ground greatly decrease underground movements, and hence such shocks.

The Earth's mountains have come about as a result of movements and clashes of huge plates which make up the planet's crust. When two of these plates collide, one usually slides under the other. The plate on top is pushed up and so forms mountains.

At the same time, the plate at the bottom proceeds under the ground and forms a deep protrusion. This means that mountains have deep downward protrusions that are as large as those visible on the surface. In other words, mountains are firmly rooted in the Earth's layer called the mantle.

Therefore, mountains effectively clench the Earth's plates by stretching above and below the ground at the conjunctions of these plates. In this way, mountains prevent the crust of the Earth from sliding on the magma layer or between its own layers.

In short, we may compare mountains to nails firmly holding pieces of wood together.

This characteristic of the mountains, through counteracting the unstable nature of the Earth's crust, prevents shocks to a significant degree.

These magnificent-looking mountains also have other roles to play in maintaining certain balances on the Earth, especially in dispersing heat.

The temperature difference between the equator and the Earth's poles is about 100C (212F). If such a difference arose on the surface level, storms at blinding speeds reaching 1,000 km (621 miles) per hour would devastate the Earth. However the uneven surface of the Earth blocks strong air currents that such heat differences could cause.

These mountain ranges begin with the Himalayas in China, continue with the Taurus mountain range in southern Turkey, and then again up into the Alps of Europe. The mountain ranges of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans also figure into this equation.

Like all other details on the Earth, what is manifested in the mountains is part of the endless art of Allah(s.w.t). Allah(s.w.t) has created the world where we live in a perfect way.

Seeing these magnificent examples, what man must acknowledge is that the most important fact of his life is his duty to serve Allah(s.w.t) and to work for this and this alone. Because man is in need of countless blessings, whereas Allah(s.w.t) is Rich Beyond Need.

Everything is alive, if I were to stamp on the floor hard with the intention, on the day of judgement it will say that I did it, I don't have much time, so could someone also explain what I meant by this, JazakAllah.

Very Interesting! But what would happen to them on the Day of Judgement ?

yes the mountines have a life just the way all other things created by allah, and once our prophet (pbuh) with abu bakr (RA) were on the mountin, and the mountin started to shake, and our propthet (pbuh) said to the mountil to stay firm as a siddique (abu bakr) is on the mountin, this shows that the prophet (pbuh) communicated with the mountin, and the mountines shell be crushed on the day of judgment, like into wool !

Asalaamu Alaikum,

Is it humble or "shake"? Maybe I read a different line or translation, about how if the Quran was sent to the mountains it would shake. The Prophet(pbuh) used to shake too whenever he had a revelation, but his body was made a vessel to be able to handle it.

Interesting stuff though.

信得過…是我的名字
sometimes the Quran translations are changing the meanings completely,
I didn't get one translated verse
in Arabic it says : يريد أن ينقض-سورة الكهف
and it is translated was about to collapse,http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/232/61417583.jpg
the fact is that in arabic language أراد=will
Allah said in Quran that the wall had the will,( and wants to collapse)
from this word some scholars said the the wall has a will,
and from the story of the palm tree trunk which cried when the prophet pbuh got a new minbar
so both the tree and the wall were living creatures,
subhanAllah
brothers who has more knowledge about this issue please help me understanding this verse

I read Surat at Takwuir and I read about the mountains as something which "move" from their place on the top of the planet until the seas...everything will "fall"to the sea in the Day of Judgement.in surat Ar-Rahman too I found some verses about the submission of the trees, the Sun,the Moon...so everything is clearly submitted to Allah's Will.mountains stay at their places just for Allah's Will.
