As an Ummah we need to just calm down

ovomer

salam from pakistan!
sorry but i beg to differ.
i think it's important to send out a strong a message that even though muslims are weak at just about every worldly thing compared to the civilized world, we will not tolerate any nonsense about prophet Muhammad (pbuh). those who want to think muslims/islam is intolerant, let them do so. Even if we bend over backwards, it's not enough to convert anyone. Being a good example to non muslims doesnt include ignoring people who make fun of islam.

reaction should vary with the situation. Unfortunately we dont have the leadership to direct us when/how to react and when to be patient. I think on this particular occasion muslims have been okayish.

i totally agree with this guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Wisdom..

Allaah says in the Quran, translation of the meanings:
He gives wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has certainly been given much good. And none will remember except those of understanding.

You can't go to a person and tell them "Hey, you! Be wise!" and expect them to become the wisest in the world. As Muslims, in general, we lack wisdom in approaching a wide variety of issues, and dealing with external and internal attacks is such a deficiency.

The first step to attaining wisdom is recognizing what you truly know vs what you are guessing at vs what you don't know. The second step is knowing what to say and when to say it, and knowing when silence is the best of speech. And third is knowing what you hope to accomplish with words/acts and asking Allaah for assistance in achieving your goals.

1. Muslims now talk whenever they feel the urge to. When we have an opinion we must share it, when a thought crosses our mind we must pass it on because it is just the greatest thing in the world, and when we are asked about something we don't know we pretend to know because we have an image to protect. What image?!

2. We as Muslims don't realize that even when you know the truth of a matter, there is a time for sharing that truth and there is a time for remaining silent. It might surprise us to know that it is extremely unwise for us to say certain things at certain times even if it was the absolute truth. For example, a Muslim Sheikh wants to enjoin good and forbid evil so he decides to visit the night clubs because he heard of Muslims drinking there.

3. What are our goals? Unfortunately, while we love to say this is not the case, our intentions are harshly misaligned with the Prophet :saw:'s intentions. The Prophet :saw: had a message to deliver, he had a purpose behind delivering that message. He :saw: wasn't after elevating his status, showing off his knowledge wisdom, nor fueling his pride. His goal was to attain the love and satisfaction of Allaah The Most High, and to fulfill his obligation of delivering the knowledge imparted to him :saw:.

There is no "silver bullet". The same solution/method doesn't apply to every situation in a similar manner. That is why when a calamity arises, we look to the Quran and Sunnah, and we ask the righteous scholars: What would the Companions of the Prophet :saw: have done in this situation and what is the appropriate way for a Muslim to behave?

It is as Allaah teaches us in the Quran:
O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result.

And then to follow up:

فَلاَ وَرَبِّكَ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ حَتَّىَ يُحَكِّمُوكَ فِيمَا شَجَرَ بَيْنَهُمْ ثُمَّ لاَ يَجِدُواْ فِي أَنفُسِهِمْ حَرَجًا مِّمَّا قَضَيْتَ وَيُسَلِّمُواْ تَسْلِيمًا
But no, by your Lord, they will not [truly] believe until they make you, [O Muhammad], judge concerning that over which they dispute among themselves and then find within themselves no discomfort from what you have judged and submit in [full, willing] submission.

How do the above verses apply to us? We have the rulings and the teachings of the Prophet :saw: and the application of this from his companions preserved in authentic ahadeeth which the scholars have studied and collected. It is from this that the scholars take rulings and precedents and make decisions on matters. This is why it is so dangerous to give fatwas openly, because when a fatwa is issued it is as if it came indirectly from the Prophet :saw:, a ruling of Allaah azzaa wa jaal. And if we don't have all the angles covered and haven't studied all the evidence thoroughly, we can be assured our reasoning is flawed.

And when a ruling or fatwa is issued with sound evidence and correct reasoning by a righteous scholar, we do not have the right to disagree with what is said. If in our heart of hearts we are not convinced, we keep it to ourselves and we do not share our personal opinions of Islamic rulings. If there is a righteous scholar who happens to have a different opinion and he seems to have a stronger case, we follow them and again we do not impart our opinion onto others. Whatever decisions we make, we are accountable for them on our own in front of Allaah. If we make the mistake of promoting our views which happen to be incorrect, then Allaah will hold us liable for everyone that learns of this through us, even if it be several hundred years later.

May Allaah guide us all to His straight path, and make us understand our own shortcomings before we indulge in the shortcoming of others.

And Allaah knows best.
