Attended my first Janaza...

Asalaam alaikum...

Yesterday after Jumuah a brother & I drove to Lodi, about 30 minutes south of Sacramento to attend my first Janaza. It was for the one year old son of a man that I knew; though I didn't know the father well we had taken a couple Al Maghrib Institute classes together at my masjid so I knew him on sight and by his first name.

When I saw the tiny shape there wrapped in the cloth I couldn't bear it. I didn't even know what to say to the father so I just hugged him. The first grave that was dug was too small; apparently they have three sizes to the boxes within the graves (infant, child, adult) and they had dug the small size and it wasn't big enough, so we waited while they dug another grave to fit the baby. We made the funeral procession to the grave while the father cradled his son one last time and kissed the sheet-covered head... Ya Allah, he has the strength of a pillar.

This poor father had already lost one child and earlier this year lost his father, and now he lost his baby boy... and I thought I was being tested!? SubhannuAllah!
