Big Problem...

I have a big problem. I have just started attempting to perform my prayers at the time they are supposed to be performed. I looked up the time from my local Masjid so I am sure the times I have are correct for my area.

My problem is that I work and WHERE I work is not an environment that has a clean spot for me to perform my prayers. Also during work I am confined to a spot where I cannot leave at my will or when I need to and must wait for permission to leave that spot. My question is if I perform the salat that I know I will miss before and then after work is this a big problem? I am asking this because I dont work long hours so I wont miss the time by more than a few hours before I go to work or when I come home. This way at least I am still doing them but just not at the correct time. Is this a solution to my problem or am I fooling myself???????? HELP!!!!

You could do it in your place of work. Just bring a matress type to be put on the floor and you could pray on time.

Im sorry if I led anyone to believe that I think I am the only person on earth with this problem. I understand that all Muslims face this same issue at some point in their life which is why I came here to ask the question.........I knew I would get an honest answer even if its not the answer I hoped for.

I understand now that I am not able to perform salat whenever I am able because worship is not at OUR convenience and if it were then there would be no harm in NEVER doing it if we chose that path. I do understand.

My solution is that I will look for a different job because this place is very strict where I work and I am not able to wear hijab there anyway. I had been thinking of finding a new job anyway so its not a hardship and in fact could possibly be an answer to my prayers.

Thank you everyone who posted and forgive me if I made anyone feel bad. I realize that some are having a much harder time than I am and I never intended to make it seem as if my problem was more serious than someone else.

Not formally yet sister.....that will come in February. I am positive though so I want to learn everything now and I am trying to do whatever I am able to do now.

i understand the problems that you face, because at times i have to face them too.

i don't want to be a buzzkill, but but you said that you have not officially reverted to islam and that you intend to revert in february; it is wonderful that you are taking time to learn about islam with an open heart and an open mind; however, we cannot decide when we accept islam; because we don't know if we're going to be here tomorrow. that's why when we muslims mention things of the future we always say " insha'allah ( ALLAH WILLING ) because we just don't know when we will take our last breath. so i say this with great concern, if you do believe that islam is the truth, do not delay your shahadah. we all should leave this earth as muslims.

Salah is the barrier between Muslims and Non-Muslims. There is no reason to leave Salah in any situation. Only two reason is there to delay the prayer from its time. That is if we are slept or if we forgot. No other reasons.

As per your message, I took a meaning that you are not delaying the prayer from its time. If this is wrong, please correct me. The time for Subuh is until Sunrise. The time for Zuhur is until 'Asr. The time for 'Asr is until Magrib. The time for Magrib is until 'Isha, and the time for 'Isha is until Subuh.

So sister if you can do your prayer on the time period for each one, its good. But we have to do them early on time if its possible. Keeping the prayer until the last part of time without an acceptable reason is an act of Munaafiqoon.

If the time passes when you are at work, just find a small clean space and do it there. The harder the Muslim struggles for his/her deen, the more the Thawaab will be.

Timing of ‘Isha prayer
This question is in reference to the timings of Isha Salat. There are various opinions regarding, when the time for offering Isha prayer expires. Some say that one can pray Isha till the Fajr Azaan is called, while others say that it expires at the time of "Tahajjud prayers". And finally some believe, that we are supposed to take the number of hours between Isha Azaan and the Fajr Azaan, and divide them into half, in order to estimate the last time for Isha prayer.
I know that prayers should be offered promptly and on time. Delaying a prayer without reason is not encouraged, but still it would be very beneficial to know the exact opinion on this issue.

‘Isha prayer must be performed before midnight, and it is not permissible to delay it until midnight, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The time of ‘Isha’ is until midnight” (narrated by Muslim, al-Masaajid wa Mawaadi’ al-Salaah, 964). So you have to pray it before midnight, based on the length of the night, because the night may be longer or shorter, so the guideline is how many hours the night lasts. If the night is ten hours long, then it is not permissible to delay it until the end of the fifth hour. The best way it to pray it in the first third of the night. If a person prays it at the beginning of the time for ‘Isha, that is OK, but if he delays it a little while, that is preferable, because the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to recommend delaying ‘Isha’ prayer for a little while. But if someone prays it at the beginning of its time, after the twilight – the reddish afterglow along the horizon – has vanished, there is nothing wrong with that. And Allaah knows best.
