Of course not ukhti..there is oppression in that..and Allah (swt) forbids oppression...a sister who receives a marriage proposal can accept or refuse any offer so long she is being rational..confident of her decision..and understanding of others' (i.e. her parents) perspectives..

If you wish for proofs or documents from the Qura'an and/or Sunnah..relating to the issue...go ahead and PM me any time you wish..I have added you to my buddy list..and inshallah I can assist you :)

The scholars of the Standing Committee were asked:

Allaah decreed that a Kurdish man who claims to be a Sunni and is outwardly righteous should propose marriage to me. His name is Haydar ‘Abd al-Husayn al-Jaabiri. He accompanied my father for several months, during which he was hosted by my father. During this period he was of good character and religiously committed, and he presented himself to my father as being a Sunni, and he attacked the Shi’ah openly. Based on what my father saw of his righteousness and piety, my father agreed to give me in marriage to him. After the marriage contract was done and he consummated the marriage with me, he announced that he was not a Sunni; rather he was a fanatical Shi’i. When we asked him to come back to Islam and to the way of Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jamaa’ah, and we put pressure on him, he said: I am neither Sunni nor Shi’i, I am a communist! (i.e., an atheist).

Respected mufti, my question is: What is the shar’i ruling on my staying with this man in this situation, especially since I hated him since he disclosed his hateful secret to us, and he deceived us in the past by making us think that he was a Sunni Muslim. What is the way to annul this marriage contract? How can I annul it, especially since I live in a non-Muslim country?
They replied:

It is not permissible to give the daughters of Sunni families in marriage to the sons of Shi’is or Communists. If the marriage takes place, it is invalid, because it is well known that the Shi’ah offer supplication (du’aa’) to Ahl al-Bayt (the Prophet’s family) and seek help through them, and this is major shirk; and the communists are atheists and have no religion at all. You have to go back to your family and not allow this man to be intimate with you, and you have to refer the matter to the authorities in your own country.

Islam Question and Answer

The Kurds (Kurdish: کورد / Kurd) are an Iranian-speaking ethnolinguistic group mostly inhabiting a region that includes adjacent parts of Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Turkey and which is known as Kurdistan. Substantial Kurdish communities also exist in the cities of western Turkey, and they can also be found in Lebanon, Armenia, Azerbaijan and, in recent decades, some European countries and the United States (see Kurdish diaspora). They speak Kurdish, an Indo-European language of the Iranian branch

Today, the majority of Kurds are officially Muslim, belonging to the Shafi school of Sunni Islam. Mystical practices and participation in Sufi orders are also widespread among Kurds.[78] There is also a minority of Kurds who are Shia Muslims, primarily living in the Ilam and Kermanshah provinces of Iran, Central and south eastern Iraq (Fayli Kurds).

Alevi
The Alevis are another religious minority among the Kurds. They are mainly living in Tunceli, Turkey and surrounding towns

Yazdanism
Yazdanism is a controversial theory that refers to a group of native monotheistic religions practiced among the Kurds: Alevism, Yarsan and Yazidism. The main element in Yazdani faiths is the belief in seven angelic entities that protect the world, therefore these traditions are named as Cult of Angels.[79] Some groups classify the various Kurdish faiths under the Yazdani umbrella.

The original religion of the Kurds was Yazidism, a religion greatly influenced by Jewish, Zoroastrian, Christian and Islamic beliefs.[78][80] However, there are significant differences between Yazdanism and Zoroasterianism, such as the belief in re-incarnation. Most Yazidis live in Iraqi Kurdistan, in the vicinity of Mosul and Sinjar.[81] The Yarsan (or Ahl-e Haqq) religion is practised in western Iran, primarily around Kermanshah.

Judaism and Christianity
Christianity and Judaism both are still practised in very small numbers.[82] Rabbi Asenath Barzani, who lived in Mosul from 1590 to 1670, was among the very first Jewish woman to become a rabbi. The overwhelming majority of the Kurdish Jews had immigrated to the Jewish State, Israel, during the early 1950s. For centuries, the Jews had lived as protected subjects of the tribal chieftains (aghas) and survived in the urban centers and villages in which they lived. In return for the protection granted by their aghas, the Jews would occasionally give them gifts, services and commissions of their commercial and agricultural transactions.[83]

Assalamu'aleykum,

Ansar al Islam started out in the mountains of Kurdistan in 2001 and fought against the peshmerga. Their goal was to establish an Islamic state in Kurdish regions. They also opposed Saddam. After Saddam was overthrown I believe the group reformed. Here is a video about them;

Kurds are Sunni Muslims. They do have nationalists, but they do also have many good muslims. If you speak with them, the idea I get is its most likely the way they have been mistreated by Turkish nationalist and Arab nationalist regimes in Iraq and Turkey ever since the fall of the Khilafah that has driven many of them to nationalism, socialism and such garbage ideologies. But can you honestly say Kurds are more nationalist or less practicing Muslims than Arabs or Turks? I don't think so. I think we need to encourage these kinds of marriages given that is is between 2 muslims.

Salam Sister-

I would just like to say that I am married to a Kurdish man, He and his whole family are Sunni and very very good Muslims. There is a huge misconception that the Yezidi people are Kurdish... They are not. They are not even Muslim they belive in a fallen angel. Most of the population is Sunni not Shiiat. And alot of them are practicing Muslims but just like you have in any race there are always people who do not practive as well. The best advice i can give you is to ask him what he is. And also i saw someone reply that Kurdish people eat pork. Again just because they are Kurdish does not mean they are Muslim firstly and Secondly i have met myself non practicing muslims that eat pork, you have them in every race. I wish you all the best and remember Allah knows best :):ma:
