Wikipedia isn't a very reliable site so I doubt that it had happened.

dear brother :
I doubt it , you know why ?
Because our beloved prophet (pbuh) said what means while talking to sahabah : oh you will conquer eygept , so take care of their people because we have relation with them ( referring to his wife mary who was coptic , and the wife of prophet ibraheem (pbuh).[/

Anyone who says that is mistaken. The country has been ruled by muslims for almost 14 centuries, and still there are millions of egyptian christians who have the freedom to practise their faith in their respective churches until today. If muslims were as they described them, we wouldnt see all these churches today.

The coptics embraced Islam when they saw its beauty and justice, after they were occupied by the roman oppressors. They wanted to understand the Quran, so they went to learn arabic from their neighbours (the arabs) and since then it has become the first language in the country.

Now I've really become convinced that Wikipedia is not reliable enough for historical information. Alhamdulilah, we don't need it anyway.

السلام عليكم
Dear brothers and sisters :

Abu Dharr (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "You will soon conquer a land where people deal with Qirat.''
And according to another version: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "You will soon conquer Egypt where Al-Qirat is frequently mentioned. So when you conquer it, treat its inhabitants well. For there lies upon you the responsibility because of blood ties or relationship (with them)".[Muslim].

In this Hadith, which I wrote it's meaning before , the Prophet (PBUH) has urged his Companions to treat the Egyptians nicely for the reason of maintaining the ties of kinship and for the fact that Egypt was the country of his in-laws (Mariyah, the mother of Ibrahim, and one of the Prophet's wives was from that place).
This Hadith is also a Prophecy of the Prophet (PBUH) due to the fact that the prophecy he had made came true. A short time after his death, Egypt became part of the Muslim empire.

Actually the historians who say such things have a long history of hating Islam and Muslims maybe due to the fact that the Romans, Byzantine actually were Christians and inventing lies against Islam and Muslims is nothing new.
Byzantines were burdening the Copts (Egyptians) with taxes and Copts hated them for this reason.
Islam teaches that people should be kind and tolerant of one another, and treat each other with respect. It also teaches that people should be modest, which is why many Muslim women cover their hair with a scarf. Islam also teaches that Muslims should be respectful of the other "people of the book," meaning Jews and Christians. This respect for the "people of the book" has a direct bearing on the story of Islam's arrival in Egypt.

When the armies of Islam came into Egypt in the year 640 C.E., the situation in Egypt was rather difficult. The Byzantine rulers did not like their Egyptian subjects, and the Egyptians hated the Byzantines. When the Muslims came, Babylon shut its gates and held out for seven months.

There are conflicting stories about exactly how the Muslims were able to conquer Egypt. One says that the Muslims won when they convinced the Copts to help them, and together they threw the Byzantines out of Egypt. Another says that it was the Chalcedonian Patriarch of Alexandria who let the Muslims have Egypt, since he thought that they would kill all of the Copts whose beliefs he found objectionable.

Babylon fell to the Muslim forces on the day after Easter, Monday April 9, 641. Once Egypt was under the control of the Muslims, the Copts found that their situation had actually improved. Muslims believe that Christians and Jews are People of the Book because they share belief in the same God, even if they have not accepted the Prophet Muhammad and his message. The Qur'an and hadith both set out provisions for situations where Muslims govern over People of the Book, and call for tolerance and good treatment. In Egypt, the Muslims were willing to let the Copts practice their religion and would leave them alone as long as they paid a poll tax every year. The poll tax was less than the yearly tributes and taxes the Copts had been required to pay to the Byzantines. The Copts also had the option of converting to Islam, but they were not forced to do so. Muslims did not constitute the majority of Egypt's population until around the 10th century C.E..

Truth Seeker,
Please provide the exact surah and the verse when you make such reference.

If you're mistaken, you may be spreading disinformation, that's not a thing people would appreciate on TTI.

My professors never accept anything from wikipedia. lol It cannot be used as a source when writing paper. Go figure.

loooooooooool .... "haven't you ever seen [citation needed]"on wikipedia and even when there are references to it they can be x, y or z's blog that can be put there as reference .... so its more lol

Now this is what the WIKIPEDIA itself says,
The "citation needed" link you just followed was placed there because a Wikipedia editor feels that the preceding statement is likely to be challenged, and therefore needs an inline citation. If you can provide a source to back up the statement, please be bold and add it. If not, please exercise extra caution when using the flagged information. If the statement violates Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living persons, delete it immediately.

Q: Did muslims force their language on the coptic Egyptians that they conquered ?

A:

1. Muslims don't "conquer" land ... they fight for human kind and it is a true battle for hearts and minds (not just lip service). For victory, they use the word "open".

2. Egypt was ruled by the same muslims that ruled Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and large parts of India. Funny how these countries still have their languages and indiginous populations until today. There are large kurdish minorities in northern Syria/Iraq that still speak kurdish until today.

3. The idea of wiping out indiginous populations/culture/language is in essense European. Look at what they've done to America. Where are the native languages of Latin America ? ... more importantly, where are the genes of native Americans !

Unless it's cited from reliable source (check the footnotes), I'd just ignore it.

I highly doubt it since it doesn't fit into the general character of the Muslims - see the post above mine - this idea is a very European one. If this were the case, Iran, Pakistan, and all of central Asia as well as parts of Southern Europe would also all speak Arabic.

i'm gonna share my opinion with u. i don't believe what is on the websites, plus i would't believe they did such thing as that back in the 7th century coz islam was knew and they were good muslims back then. islam was revealed
6th century i hope am right about that. they are no good rulers know as they were back then. so there is no way i would believe such thing as that.
if you really look at the middle east rulers now they are not good. i hope muslims get good rulers.

I'm asking you to give exact source of your quote. example

"And He found thee in need, and made thee independent. "093.008
Surah Ad Duha, verse 8:

You just paraphrased a verse from the Quran without giving any citation for pepole to verify whether it is actually from the Quran.
Not everyone knows all the verse in the Quran.
I know of the Second quote you made "give 2.5 percent to zakat" Well 2.5 percent comes from the hadeeth not the Quran, you're mistaken. The Quran only says give a portion of your wealth in Zakath.
As far as your first quote, I never heard of it, so now I have to search the entire Quran to see whether it's actually there or not.

A bit annoying.
Once again, you didn't give reference.
