Did Prophet Jesus ever said to his disciples to love their enemies ?

I ask because I cant imagine how we should love our enemies. So could this christian belief that Jesus ( The Prophet ) said to love your enemies be fabricated ?

It is and is actually rewarded by Allah (swt).
However, Islam is a religion of justice and if someone seeks justice then forgiveness doesnt come into it.

Moreover when it comes to the people who have been established to be enemies of Islam or Muslims they have to be fought; it's obligatory!

I was reflecting on the first part of your post. How should we love our enemies. We can choose to forgive everyone thereby having no attachment to our emotions. That is total freedom.

وَسَارِعُوا إِلَىٰ مَغْفِرَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَجَنَّةٍ عَرْضُهَا السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ أُعِدَّتْ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ

"And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for the righteous" {'Al'Imraan 133}


As you seek forgiveness from Allah you forgive others easily.

Not until they fight us. Preemptive wars are explicitly prohibited by 2:190,

"And fight, in the way of God, those who fight you and do not transgress; God does not love the transgressors." (2:190)

And as soon as the enemy stops the fight, we must must stop the fight,

"But if they cease, there shall be no aggression except against the wrongdoers." (2:193)

My analysis based on all the Koranic verses, hadith and the practice of the 4 rightly guided caliphs with regards to fighting leads me to conclude otherwise.

Brother, I am by no means anything close to a scholar. I am but a simple woman who loves her faith.

Over a twenty year period of serious studying my faith, from many perspectives, it has led to the same conclusion..we only fight as a last resort.
The best we can strive for is that the enemy becomes Muslim. In history if the enemy did not revert but were willing to live under Islamic law they thrived.
Is it not from the annals of Islam that the pen is mighter than the sword. Is the Quran not the sword of Islam.

I am not saying that we need to lie down and die before the enemy. But we have to be absoulte in knowing who the enemy is..it can not be any bloodlust in our hearts.

I understand many brothers lately ignore serious comments made by sisters...but dear brothers remember the Prophet, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, listened to women.

I am addressing this issue in a universal manner. We are Muslims thereby we are promoters of that which is good and correct. Fighting can only be prescribed by Allah.

off course im not a scholar either but i based my opinion on what the 4 best companions (who are guaranteed paradise btw so they cant possibly have killed people unjustly or disobeyed Allah) of Muhammad (saw) did. Also the overall sunnah of the prophet (saw) and the verses of Quran back this opinion up. We cannot base any opinion on just a couple of verses; we have to take everything together.

Other perspectives dont matter and it's not about bloodlust at all.

Well you guys didnt really give me an answer, Did he really say that ?

I find it hard to believe for christians to say that they love their enemies.
So do they love Adolf Hitler ? If Jesus really did say this statement then I have my utmost respect for it and maybe I would even act accordingly but If he didnt say that then Christians will have to evaluate that statement bec Loving your enemies nowadays is very hard to do.

You were given the answer. The Bible has been edited. There have been threads here that describe how the books of the Bible were compiled. Thus we can say yes it is in the Bible. Does that mean he said it. We do not know with absolute certainty. We do not even know who wrote the Gospels.


Are we to love only those who deserve our love? Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven.

Your argument is simplistic thinking. And it is overreaching.

The United States of America is a secular government. There is a difference between church and state. They are two different branches.

American law is very loosely based on Jewish/Christian law. As a matter of fact men like Benjamin Franklin argued against using Jewish law while they were writing the Constitution.

America is not a Christian country.

If Jesus had said , LOVE YOUR ENEMIES , then

why USA , the Christian government , could not love their enemies who destroyed the world tower ?.........

Why Christian make complaints when they are harmed by thugs , mobs ..etc so that christian police arrest criminals, instead of loving them ??
