Salamu alaykum,

did you guys know that Imam Shaffi rahimehullah in ramadan would recite the quran 60 times, and all of it was in salah. SubhanNAllah, i just wonder how they did that. I mean they had to have barakah in their times. It takes me about 2-3 hrs to finish sura al Baqarah. So that leaves me with 21 hrs. I mean if you would recite the whole 24 hrs, i would not finish the quran. Maybe i would reach juz 15. Imam shafi would finish the quran 2 times in a day. Allahu akbar. Resulullah s..va once in a night prayer recited al Baqara, ali imran, annissaa all in one rekah. Allahu akbar.

Actually, i think you need to double check that- if Imam Shafi' (ru) read the Quran 60 in Ramadhan that's an averange of the whole Quran recited two times in one night.

Because there is a sahih hadith where Allah's messenger prohibited his companions from reciting the whole Quran in less than three nights... because it would mean that you are not reading the Book of Allah, with khushu' (concentration), with a beautiful voice and contemplating upon the words.

There are many fabricated narrations about many Imams and scholars and even the Sahabah- They were all amazing people better than me or you but we should not elevate them beyond the status given to them by Allah (swt) by fabricating stories about them.

Most of the time you will find that these 'stories' are contradictory to the Sunnah of the prophet- and the imams are free from these lies.

Islam the a way of life between moderation and extremeism!

Islam is not like Christianisty- where forcing your self to go against your natural state eg. Celibacy or isolation is seen as worship ect.

Rather islam is the natural way of life, between the two extremes.

One extreme to commit haram and fornication with every woman, the other extreme never to marry or have relationship.

The sunnah of Allah's messeneger is the best way of life for us to follow- his sunnah was to marry women and not go in to extreme in worship so that the rights of others (like your wife & kids are not fufilled)

In a sahih hadith from Bukhari three men came enquiring at the house of A'isha about the messenger of Allah- (When they heard what A'isha (ra) had to say they said "He is the messenger of Allah so we need to do more than this if we want to enter Paradise" So then one said 'I will never go to sleep i will pray all night' the other said 'I will fast all day with out breaking it' and the last one said 'I will never get married'.

The messenger of Allah (pbuh) found them and told them "There is nobody who fears Allah more than i do, but i pray some nights and i sleep some nights, i fast some days and i don't fast some days, and i marry women. Who so ever does not follow my sunnah is not from me!"

In another hadith the messenger went to the house of his daughter Zaynab and saw a rope hanging from the roof and he asked "what is this rope for" and he (pbuh) was told 'when zainab becomes tired she holds the rope and prays'
So the messenger of Allah said 'Tell Zaynab, when she begins to feel tired, then the thats when the rights of her body begin to take persidence"

Islam is easy so don't make it hard by pushing one self to the limit. We worship Allah (swt) how the prophet showed us to worship- NOT how we think is best!!

Islam is a religion between extremism and moderation. It is the middle and the easiest path. :mashallah:

Imam shafi would finish the quran 2 times in a day.

Subhanallah how is that possible if he knew the forbiddance of finishing reciting the Quran in less than 3 days? Besides the hadith says that One who reads the Quran in less than three days does not understand it (Abu Da'ud, Tirmidhi).

I'm sure there is some other explanation

Perhaps its 6 times in Ramadan - that would make more sense. It would mean completing the entire recitation every 4 to 5 days.

May Allah bless us for knowing this. Let us think about those days where Quran is not even written in a book, where is Quran? it is in the heart of the real islam people..that is why islam those days are stronger..but now ...

I understand, but in ramdan they were buising themselve with the recitation of quran. They weren't looking for the understanding of the quran in that month because they wanted to get as much hassant as possible. There were other times of the month where you can spend time reciting slowly and ponder the meanings of the verses. In fact, the sunnah is that classes dealing with islamic matters would be canceld in the month of ramadan so that people could spend more time with recitation of quran. And i will try to find where it says that Imam Shafi rahimehullah read that many times.

Intensifying the Recitation of the Qur’an: The month of Ramadan is the month of the Qur’an. The Muslim must therefore recite the Qur’an a great deal. The Salaf used to pay particular attention to the Book of Allah, and angel Jibril (Gabriel) used to study the Qur’an with the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) during Ramadan. Uthman Ibn Affan used to complete reciting the Qur’an once each day. Some of the Salaf also completed the Qur'an in their qiyam prayer every three nights. Others completed it every seven days, while some others completed it every ten nights.
They used to recite the Qur’an during prayers and at other times. During Ramadan, Al-Shafi’i used to complete reciting the Qur’an sixty times, excluding prayer times. AI-Aswad used to complete reciting the Qur’an every two nights. Qatada regularly completed the Qur’an within seven nights, while during Ramadan, he completed it every three nights, but in the last ten days of Ramadan, he completed it every night.
When Ramadan came, Al-Zuhri left studying the hadith and study circles with scholars and he concentrated on reciting the Qur’an from the book (i.e. not from memory). Also, when Ramadan came, Sufyan Al-Thawri left all other acts of worship and concentrated on the Qur’an. Ibn Rajab said that it was reported from the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) that the Qur’an may not be completed in less than three days by those who recite it constantly.
