Riyadh: A Saudi official has denied a Sri Lankan maid’s allegations that the couple she worked for in the Gulf kingdom hammered nails and needles into her body.

Doctors in Sri Lanka have said they removed 13 nails and five needles from L.G. Ariyawathi after she returned from Saudi Arabia last month. The items had been driven into Ariyawathi's legs and forehead.

But Sa’ad Al Badah, the head of a Saudi government department responsible for foreign workers, told state television Tuesday night that Ariyawathi's allegations are baseless and amount to blackmail.

The 49-year-old Ariyawathi has said the family she worked for in Saudi Arabia punished her by heating the nails and needles before sticking them into her. She worked in the kingdom for five months.

Muslim Guy
There were x-rays of the maid's hands that showed that nails had been inserted. Unless she did it to herself, which is absolutely unbelievable, then her claim stands much stronger.

This report from Saudi Arabia is absolutely disgusting. Instead of paying compensation, or even at least apologising on behalf of the psychopathic hosts, the official position is going in the exact opposite direction.

This news report just shows a random and very, very weak defense, calling out to "blackmail", but they provide no theory on how the nails were actually inserted into the maid. There have been so many cases of laborers, non-Muslim AND Muslim, being abused, this maid's version and the hospital report holds much more credibility than whatever these sick officials are claiming.

The security and protection of their own people before justice. I believe justice should come first.

Asslam alaikum.

Sister, Have you put the thought that what we read in the news is always not true ?

What leads you to believe that Saudi govt is trying to protect it's image and deny someone justice ? This is a serious allegation. We should refrain from making such comments about an Islamic govt. altogether in public. It leads to more harm than any good.

None of us here know beyond what was presented in the news. Is it fair to make such statements about things that we don't know beyond news reports from Sri Lanka ? For a second, did it occur to us that the Saudi govt might have actually carried out the investigation in a proper manner without being devious ?

How can you say that if she was 'Arab' then they would have .. ? Astagfirullah. Sister, we need to control our tongues (or any other way of expression such as typing on a public forum). All this comes under 'slander' against fellow muslims. We really wouldn't want to be accountable to Allah azz zawajal for these things.

If something such as this comes across your mind, then seek Allah's refuge but do not utter it. (I think sister a_muslimah86 once wrote a nice post on it). We are to think good of our brethren and not pass judgements on them about things we have little to no knowledge about.

I would like to remind you that first big fitnah that muslims faced sprouted from youths being unmindful of their words and actions regarding the Islamic government, which eventually lead to the murder of Uthman RadiAllahu Anhu. A huge calamity !

May Allah azz zawajal protect us and guide us. Ameen

That's okay, sister. At times, we all slip up and make mistakes. The clever is the one who realizes it and undoes the damage if he/she can and seeks forgiveness from Allah Almighty.

We should seize this opportunity of Ramadan to supplicate to Allah Almighty that he guides our muslim rulers and ministers to rule according to shariah of Islam & that we as muslims can change our societies for the better.

If you are ready to invest your time in learning about politics in light of Islam post ramadan then here is one good lecture. It requires a considerable amount of investment with regards to time as it has 10 parts. Nevertheless it helps one understand his/her bounds when talking about Islamic govts and how to deal with non Islamic ones.

Wasalaamalaykum waa rahmatullahi
