Do we have "double intentions" this Ramadan?

As we fast approach the end of Ramadan we should reflect on what we have learnt and implement this good throughout the year. A sheikh did a wonderful speech in our Masjid on the 27th night and said that those of us who have "double intentions" as in we have the intention to change for just one month and then after Ramadan go back to our evil ways then for those people their fasts are invalid and they have been wasting their time fasting for their efforts just for this one month are of no avail.

Many of us have these double intentions where in maybe there are those of us who will continue in our drug habits or drink, clubbing, fornicating, adultery or take the hijaab off or continue wearing it in a fashionable way with tight clothes after Ramadan. Especially on Eid day where many of us forget about Salaah completley and go back to our evil ways.

What use is our giving up food and refraining from all evil just for this one month? Ramadan is to prepare ourselves for the rest of the year and it is a time where we ask of Allah for his mercy and forgivenss but what use is asking for forgiveness when we have a "double intention" all along that we will only change for one month and then go back to our evil ways again as soon as Ramadan is over.

We must understand that Allah KNOWS us better than we know ourselves and he knows EXACTLY what we are thinking and what our intentions deep in our heart are so let us NOT waste all of our fasts but let us leave behind any evil we did before Ramadan and NEVER go back to it again.

The Sheikh also mentioned that it was a bit of a cliche nowadays when people say "this Ramadan may be our last" but for some of us it WILL be our last and that is the reality and not just a cliche and then he mentioned the death of one of his friends recently who was just 30. We never think to ourselves that we are going to die but it WILL happen and for many of us it may come sooner rather than later.

Therefore let us make the necessery changes NOW and let us NOT go back to the evil we did before Ramadan because if we go back to the evil we did before Ramadan or leave our Salaah then we have wasted our WHOLE Ramadan and it will be of no avail.

Eid day will be a big test for many of us and if we want to know whether our Ramadan is accepted or not then the best sign is if we continue praying ouyr Salaah and obeying the commands of Allah and refraining from the evil we left before Ramadan.

We should fear Allah and think that if we were to die in a state of committing sin then we would die a wretched dogs death! So the time for change is NOW for tomorrow may NEVER come!

May Allah save us from ALL evil and anything which angers him and may Allah make us of the righteous and accept our efforts in Ramadan and help us to implement the good throughout the year. Ameen
