NABLUS, (PIC)-- A delegation of the European parliament, currently visiting the Palestinian lands, has called on the EU to immediately act to stop the policy of mass punishment against the Palestinian people.
The delegates expressed absolute shock at the unprecedented humanitarian crisis witnessed in the Palestinian lands, noting that the unemployment rate had reached a record 70%.
They said that most factories and shops were closed down and families were unable to secure their basic needs not even bread, and noted that the water system was polluted posing dangers on the lives of children and people at large.
In a similar visit to Gaza, a delegation of the municipal council of the Spanish city of Barcelona declared solidarity with Gaza city in face of the IOF tight siege.
The delegates delivered a message carrying this meaning from Barcelona mayor to the municipal council chairman of Gaza city Majed Abu Ramadan.
The team members denounced the IOF arbitrary measures against Gaza in violation of international laws and doctrines.
Abu Ramadan appreciated the Spanish city's solidarity message and said that his council is proud of the twining between Gaza and Barcelona, which was forged several years ago.
He noted that the Spanish city had financed the construction of many projects in Gaza, and appealed to the delegates to publicize the tragic conditions in Gaza to the European public opinion and to acquaint the Europeans with the IOF crimes that are tantamount to "genocide and racial cleansing".
Falling in that same context, Palestinian farmers in the West Bank have appealed for international pressures on Israel to allow them harvest their olive trees, the major income of Palestinian farmers.
They said that IOF soldiers prevent anyone from approaching their roadblocks, which are near to the cultivated lands.
