BRUSSELS, (PIC)-- The Brussels-based European Campaign to End the Siege on Gaza said that there has been a large turnout for Freedom Flotilla 2, in terms of activists requesting to participate, and in terms of the number of ships.

The campaign, which was one of the founders of the Freedom Flotilla coalition, in a press statement on Monday, boasted that the new flotilla has a few surprises in store for Israeli authorities, one of which is that seven of the ships scheduled to participate in the flotilla are from European counties.

The European campaign added that it received around nine thousand requests forms from sympathizers from around the world since opening registration to participate in the second Freedom Flotilla, which is expected to set sail into the Gaza Strip within a few weeks, despite Israel’s May 31st raid against the first Freedom Flotilla, which left nine dead, others injured, and properties confiscated and damaged.

The first Freedom Flotilla carried 750 activists from more than 40 countries, including 44 Arab and European government and political officials, including ten Algerian MPs, more than 10,000 tons of medical supplies, building materials, and timber, and 100 ready-made houses in support of the tens of thousands of people who lost their homes in the Israeli war on Gaza in late 2008 and early 2009. The ships also carried 500 electric vehicles for the use of the disabled, especially since the recent war left nearly 600 disabled in Gaza.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, independent MP Jamal al-Khudari, Chairman of the Popular Committee against the Siege, has confirmed that Israel has publically announced that it will ease the aggravated siege on Gaza, without any mention of ending the root of the crisis.

Khudari, in a press release on Monday, noted that ending the blockade would require a series of measures on the ground, the most important of which would be to completely open commercial crossings to allow the flow of goods, and to put an end to the "restricted lists" policy, underlining that Gaza is need of all the supplies it was deprived of since the institution of the blockade four years ago.

He noted that Israel was still closing all Gaza commercial crossings except the crossing point at Kerem Abu Salem, the absorptive capacity of which is small when compared to the Strip’s needs, the biggest proof that the broadcasted ease of the siege is merely an attempt to ease international pressure.

Preparations by European, Arab, and Islamic parties for new ships headed for the Gaza Strip are well underway, Khudari confirmed, adding that scheduled departures will soon be announced.

European campaign: Freedom Flotilla 2 will export Gaza products to the world

[ 06/07/2010 - 02:26 PM ]

BRUSSELS, (PIC)-- The European campaign to end the siege said Tuesday that the next Freedom Flotilla aid convoy that will set sail in early August will help Gaza people to export the products they produce to the world.

The campaign, a partner of the Freedom Flotilla coalition, stressed that it is determined to move forward in its anti-siege activities and send more ships to Gaza.

It pointed out that it wants to assist Gaza farmers and industrialists to export their products to Europe through the visiting aid ships.

The campaign underlined that Israel's conditional decision to alleviate the blockade on Gaza makes a mockery of international calls for ending the siege and is aimed to keep it imposed on more than one and a half million Palestinians, but this time with international approval.

In another context, MP Jamal Al-Khudari, the head of the popular committee against the siege, said Tuesday that Israel intends to ban the export of dairy products and meat from the West Bank to the occupied city of Jerusalem after it already imposed a similar ban on medicines.

Khudari warned in a press release that the decision means increasing the isolation of the holy city and tightening the economic blockade on the West Bank, adding that this decision threatens the owners of factories and productive families and heralds a big unemployment crisis.

Assalamualaikum sister harb,

I heard construction materials are now allowed into Gaza. Is that true?

:salam2:

No; in so-called black list - things not allowed to bring to Gaza are for example cement, steel, iron, window glasses as well as any fertilizers needed for agriculture and most of medicines. Latest news how zionists have "lifted" they siege are non-sense - but yes, they have allowed some products to bring to Gaza - which haven´t very much to do for re-building all those damaged homes - like chocolate and tomato ketchup.

:SMILY335:

p.s. also zionists allow from Wednesday morning newspapers enter to Gaza, but for example any school books and A4- size papers are not allowed...

"Hope" sails for Gaza within hours

[ 10/07/2010 - 02:44 PM ]

GAZA, (PIC)-- Independent MP Jamal Al-Khudari, the head of the popular committee against the siege, and the Arab MK Ahmed Al-Tibi have affirmed that the Libyan aid ship "Hope" would set sail from Athens to Gaza within the few coming hours despite threats.

Both parliamentarians, who have been following up preparations of the ship's trip for weeks, quoted organizers of "Hope" as saying that they were adamant on reaching Gaza despite Israeli obstacles.

Khudari said that the solidarity activists on board the vessel said that their voyage was purely humanitarian aimed at sending relief assistance and medicines to Gaza in addition to break the siege and isolation imposed on the Strip for the past four years.

He said that the Israeli attempts to divert the ship's destination would not succeed, adding that more ships would sail to Gaza until the blockade imposed on it is completely lifted.

For its part, the Israeli Hebrew daily Yediot Ahronot reported on Saturday that Israeli foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman convinced the foreign ministers of Greece and Moldova (the ships is carrying the flag of Moldova) to instruct the ship to dock at the Egyptian port of El-Arish.
