right here! when i was about five... we were living in kenya in this town that was known for its jinns. every week somebody would be taken over by a jinn and it would be crazy because it will be somebody like an old women and she would have this deep manly voice when she speaks. well anyways i was only hearing all the stories about the jinns.... until one night my sister was in the room with me and she had a somewhat of a flu( i think or she might have been well... that i don't remember) well where she was sleeping on the bed on the side of the wall came out a gray transparent hand. the hand was obviously gesturing to shake hands with my sis.. and my sister went towards the hand. now i don't no what happened after that, but afterwards my sister got extremely sick and these men had to come and recite quran on her and alhamdulliaah she became better.....

my sister and i never spoke of this.
until one day about 7 years later i brought it up thinking i was the only who remembered it. my younger brother (who was four during the incident) was in the room and when i just mentioned remeber the hand that came through the wall that day, and he jumped and explained how the hand looked in detail big manly hand that was grayish and transparent... i realized then that he was also there. my sister literally went into histeria! none of us had thought that the other had the same experiance and would remeber... my sister calmed down from her histeria about 10 mins later!

Asalamu alaikum,

I've had (or thought I had) two minor cases where I might have seen Jinn, but by no means am I absolutely sure that it really happened.

Soon after I reverted, I emptied my room and cleaned it well (my dog used to go in there a lot), and when night time came the whole room was empty except my mattress on the floor, and the thing that goes under the mattress to make it higher (don't know what it's called) was propped up against the wall. Well it came time for Maghrib prayer and when I start praying, I could see out of the corner of my eye in the shadow made by the thing that goes under the bed, a flashing red and blue light. I didn't know what was happening, and so I peeked over to the shadow but saw nothing. I looked back to the place of sujood and surely there it was again, in the corner of my eye this light (well, it wasn't really light, but color) flashing in the same spot. It wasn't very large, about the size of an orange, just constantly annoying me during prayer. I only saw it when I was in prayer, and it wasn't a one time incident. This happened whenever I prayed Maghrib or Isha prayers for about a week I guess. Then it stopped and I haven't seen it since.

The next one is a little more profound. About 2 or 3 weeks ago, I was walking home from my friends house at night time, about 10 P.M. I was walking on the sidewalk, looking a few feet ahead of me at the ground, just walking along towards my house. On my right was the street, and on my left there was a high fence right next to the sidewalk. From where I was, about 25 feet ahead, the fence stopped and past that there was grass. I looked up in front of me to where the fence ended, and masha'Allah I'm about 80% sure I saw a Jinn facing me directly. It didn't "appear", but when I looked up, it was just there. If you have seen the pictures of the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, there is one particular picture that this reminded me of IMMEDIATELY. In one of the pictures, a man was forced to stand on a small box with a black hood and ragged black cloth draping over his body. The Jinn I thought I saw looked very much like this, but floating about a foot and a half above the ground. It looked like it was wearing about the same thing as the man in the picture, with a hood and everything. However, as soon as I caught a glimpse of it, it moved behind the fence (QUICKLY!) and when I reached that point a few seconds later there was nothing to be seen.

I'm interested to hear what others have to say about this topic! Insha'Allah there will be some good stories.

Asalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

Throughout history man has always had a deep attraction for the supernatural and the unseen. The existence of a world parallel to our own has always fascinated people. This world is commonly referred to as the spirit world, and almost every set of people have some concept of one. With some people, these spirits are no more then the souls of dead people- or ghosts. With others, spirits are either the forces of good or the forces of evil - both battling against one another to gain influence over humanity. However, both of these explanations are more in tune with folk tales and fantasy. The true explanation of such a world comes from Islam. Like every other way, Islam also claims to explain this realm of the unseen. It is from this realm that Islam explains to us about the world of the Jinn. The Islamic explanation of the Jinn provides us with so many answers to modem day mysteries. Without the knowledge of this world, the Muslims would become like the non-Muslims and be running around looking for any old answer to come their way. So, who or what are the Jinn?

Existence

The Jinn are beings created with free will, living on earth in a world parallel to mankind. The Arabic word Jinn is from the verb 'Janna' which means to hide or conceal. Thus, they are physically invisible from man as their description suggests. This invisibility is one of the reasons why some people have denied their existence. However, (as will be seen) the affect which the world of the Jinn has upon our world, is enough to refute this modern denial of one of Allah's creation. The origins of the Jinn can be traced from the Qur'an and the Sunnah. Allah says:

"Indeed We created man from dried clay of black smooth mud. And We created the Jinn before that from the smokeless flame of fire"
[Surah Al-Hijr 15:26-27]

Thus the Jinn were created before man. As for their physical origin, then the Prophet has confirmed the above verse when he said: "The Angels were created from light and the Jinn from smokeless fire". It is this description of the Jinn which tells us so much about them. Because they were created from fire, their nature has generally been fiery and thus their relationship with man has been built upon this. Like humans, they too are required to worship Allah and follow Islam. Their purpose in life is exactly the same as ours, as Allah says:

"I did not create the Jinn and mankind except to worship Me" [Surah Ad-Dhariyat, 51:56]

Jinns can thus be Muslims or non-Muslims. However, due to their fiery nature the majority of them are non-Muslims. All these non-Muslim Jinns form a part of the army of the most famous Jinn, Iblis- the Shaitan. Consequently, these disbelieving Jinns are also called Shaitans (devils). As for the Jinns who become Muslims, then the first of them did so in the time of the Prophet when a group of them were amazed by the recitation of the Qur'an. Allah orders the Prophet to tell the people of this event:

"Say (O' Muhammad): It has been revealed to me that a group of Jinn listened and said; 'Indeed we have heard a marvelous Qur'an. It guides unto righteousness so we have believed in it, and we will never make partners with our lord'" [Surah Al-Jinn, 72:1-2]

In many aspects of their world, the Jinn are very similar to us. They eat and drink, they marry, have children and they die. The life span however, is far greater then ours. Like us, they will also be subject to a Final Reckoning by Allah the Most High. They will be present with mankind on the Day of Judgment and will either go to Paradise or Hell.

Abilities

That which clearly distinguishes the Jinn from mankind, are their powers and abilities. Allah has given them these powers as a test for them. If they oppress others with them, then they will be held accountable. By knowing of their powers, we can often make sense of much of the mysteries which go on around us. One of the powers of the Jinn, is that they are able to take on any physical form they like. Thus, they can appear as humans, animals trees and anything else. Over the last few years the interest in the subject of aliens and UFO's has become heightened. Programs such as the X-files and the Outer limits have increased the popularity of the theory that aliens exist. Thousands of people have sighted strange looking creatures all over the world. These sightings however, have still not proven substantially that aliens exist. Rather - and it seems more plausible all the sightings of such creatures were just Jinns parading in different forms. So the next time you see something that looks like E.T, its most probably just a wicked Jinn trying to scare and confuse you!

The ability to possess and take over the minds and bodies of other creatures is also a power which the Jinn have utilized greatly over the centuries. This however, is something which has been prohibited to them as it is a great oppression to possess another being. Human possession is something which has always brought about great attention. But the true knowledge of this subject is rare amongst the people. Over the last 3 decades the subject of possession has become very commercialized. During the 70's films such as The Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby were used to educate people about possession. However, because such institutions (the film industry) were heavily influenced by Christianity, knowledge of the subject was non-existent. Rather then educate people about Jinn possession, films such as The Exorcist just tended to scare the living daylights out of us! Only through Islam can we understand such a phenomena. We know as Muslims, that Jinns possess people for many reasons. Sometimes it is because the Jinn or its family has been hurt accidentally. It could be because the Jinn has fallen in love with the person. However, most of the time possession occurs because the Jinn is simply malicious and wicked. For this reason we have been told by the Prophet not to loiter in those places where the Jinns reside, e.g. graveyards, ruins, deserts, market places etc. We have also been commanded to recite the Qur'an frequently in our houses as the Prophet said: "Indeed, the shaytan flees from the house in which Surah Al-Baqarah (the 2nd chapter of the Qur'an) is recited".

If a person does become possessed, then the name of Allah has to be used in expelling the Jinn. If we look at the practice of the Prophet and his companions, we find many duas (supplications) to exorcise the Jinn. All these duas invoke Allah to help the possessed person. How contrary this is to many modern-day exorcists. Many exorcists, Muslim and non-Muslim, often invoke the names of others besides Allah to exorcise the Jinn. When the Jinn does leave, these people believe that their way was successful. However, this is a ploy of the Jinn, as it knows that if it obeys the exorcist, then it has succeeded in making him worship others besides Allah i.e. commit shirk. The Jinn often returns when the exorcist leaves, as it knows that nothing except the words of Allah can stop it from oppressing others.

It is not only humans which are possessed, but also animals, trees and other objects. By doing this, the evil Jinn hope to make people worship others besides Allah. The possession of idols is one way to do this. Not so long ago the world-wide phenomenon of Hindu idols drinking milk, shocked the world. From Bombay to London, Delhi to California, countless idols were lapping up milk. Ganesh the elephant god, Hanuman the monkey god and even Shiva lingam, the male private organ(!), all seemed to guzzle down the milk as if there was no tomorrow! Unfortunately people were taken in by this (including Muslims) and many flocked to feed (?) the Hindu gods. Anyone who knows about Jinn possession, will undoubtedly know that this is a classic attempt to make people commit shirk. And it worked, as many people started to worship these lifeless pieces of wood and marble. Anyone with half a brain would say to themselves, 'why on earth does a god need to be fed?!! Surely if Ganesh, Hanuman or Shiva were divine then they wouldn't need feeding?' However, such common sense seemed to be lacking as the Jinns played havoc with these gullible people.

The Occult

Through their powers of flying and invisibility, the Jinn are the chief component in occult activities. Voodoo, Black magic, Poltergeists, Witchcraft and Mediums can all be explained through the world of the Jinn. Likewise, so can the illusions and feats of magicians. Because the Jinn can traverse huge distances over a matter of seconds, their value to magicians is great. In return for helping them in their magic, the Jinns often ask for the magicians to sell their souls to them and even to Iblis. Thus the magicians take the Jinn and Iblis as lords besides Allah. In our day, some of the feats performed by magicians and entertainers are without doubt from the assistance of the Jinn. Making the Statue of Liberty disappear, flying across the Grand Canyon and retrieving a ship from the Bermuda Triangle, have all been done by the Jewish magician David Copperfield. There is NO way that a man could do such things without the assistance of the Jinn. It would not be surprising therefore, if David Copperfield had sold his soul to Iblis himself. Because of their involvement with the Jinn, and its result in shirk, the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said: "The prescribed punishment for the magician is that he be executed by the sword". Some may argue that this is barbaric, but if, the likes of David Copperfield truly had powers, then they could just put their heads back on again!!

One of the most frequent activities associated with the Jinn, is fortune telling. Before the advent of the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) fortune-tellers and soothsayers were wide spread. These people would use their associates from the Jinn to find out about the future. The Jinns would go to the lowest heaven and listen to the Angels conversing amongst themselves about events of the Future which they heard from Allah. The Jinns would then inform the fortune-tellers. This is why before the time of the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) many fortune-tellers were very accurate in their predictions. However, upon the Prophet's arrival the heavens were guarded intensely by the Angels, and any Jinn who tried to listen was attacked by meteors (shooting star)

"And We have guarded it (the heavens) from every accursed devil, except one who is able to snatch a hearing and he is pursued by a brightly burning flame" [Surah Al-Hijr, 15:18]

The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) also said: "They (the Jinn) would pass the information back down until it reaches the lips of a magician or forrtune-teller Sometimes a meteor would overtake them before they could pass it on. If they passed it on before being struck, they would add to it a hundred lies". Thus, it is clear from this as to how fortune-tellers get predictions of the future right. It is also evident as to why they get so many wrong. Men like Nostradamus are an example, as some of his predictions of the future were correct whilst many were completely wrong. Unfortunately, the amount of fortune telling which occurs amongst the Muslims is also increasing. By visiting Muslim lands such as Morocco, one is able to see as to how much inter Jinn-fortune-teller activity there really is. If you look up at the sky on a clear night in Morocco, you will see the heavens ablaze with shooting stars! A clear display of the devils being chased away from the heavens.

Fortune-tellers also operate through the Qareen. The Qareen is the Jinn companion which is assigned to every human being. It is this Jinn which whispers to our base desires and constantly tries to divert us from righteousness. The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said: "Everyone of you has been assigned a companion from the Jinn. The companions asked: Even you O' Messenger of Allah? And the Prophet replied: Even me, except that Allah has helped me against him and he has submitted. Now he only tells me to do good". Because the Qareen is with a person all his life, it knows all that has happened to the person from the cradle to the grave. By making contact with the Qareen, the fortune-teller is thus able to make out that it is he who knows about the person. He looks in his crystal ball or the palm of a person and proceeds to amaze him with knowledge which no one else knows The severity of going to a fortune-teller is such that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said: "The prayer of one who approaches a fortune-teller and asks him about anything, will not be accepted for forty days or nights" and: "Whosoever approaches a fortune-teller and believes in what he says, has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammed"

The effects of the Jinn are not just limited to fortune-tellers. Other activities such as oujia boards and seances, which are used to contact the dead, are manipulated by the Jinn. 'Are you there Charlie? Speak to us Charlie!!' are the sort of words spoken by anxious relatives (names are obviously different!) seeking to make contact with their loved ones. And it is when the Jinn starts to talk and communicate as 'Charlie', that the people are truly fooled.

One of the biggest manipulations of the Jinn is through visions. Through these visions the Jinns are more likely to lead people away from the worship of Allah then any other way. When a person sees a vision in front of his eyes it is something which is very hard to explain away. Only by having knowledge of the world of the Jinn and conviction in Allah, can a person fight such a trial. The countless numbers of visions of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary over the centuries has been a popular choice for the devils. It almost seems as if leading Christians astray is the most easiest trick for the Jinns! Not only are Christians fooled by these visions, but often the Jinns possess and begin to talk from their voices. To the Christians this is known as the tongues of the Angels and thus a proof for their faith. However, the amount of unintelligible nonsense and rubbish which is heard is a clear proof that this is in fact the tongues of the devils! For other people, visions of their parents or relatives are commonplace. By taking on the form of peoples parents, the Jinns can convince people that the souls of dead people still mix with the people of the earth. This is why so many people believe in ghosts.

The onslaught of satanic visions has also hit the Muslims. Many Muslims claim to have seen visions of the Prophet Muhammed (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) and even Allah! By doing this, Shaitan is able to lead astray the weak Muslims. Through such visions, Muslims are often told that the commands of Islam are not applicable to them. The Jinns tell them that Prayer, Fasting, Hajj etc. are not obligatory for them. It is a great deception and unfortunately one which has been very effective. The extent of satanic visions still continues to this day. The recent death of Diana Princess of Wales sparked off great love and adoration for this woman. In fact the grief of the British people was such, that it was as if Diana was something divine. No sooner had the mourning of Diana reached its peak, that visions of her were already being seen at Hampton Court Palace! If these visions did occur, the desire of Iblis and his army of Jinn to capitalise on this event, was evident. Such visions are clear attempts by Iblis to lead mankind away from the path of Allah.

The world of the Jinn is one which is both sinister and intriguing. By knowing of this world we can explain many of the mysteries and issues which bother us. By doing this we can avoid the extremes which the people have gone to; nothing being more extreme then worshipping others besides Allah. By learning the Tawheed of Allah, we defend ourselves from these hidden allies of Iblis:

"Indeed he (Iblis) and his tribe watch you from a position where you cannot see them" [Surah Al-A'raf, 7:27]

Maybe there is a Jinn sitting in the corner of your room right now, or even one behind you. If so, then how will you deal with this creation of Allah? Learn Islam properly and you will be able to deal with all of Allah's creation - and not just the Jinn. By becoming true Muslims and followers of Islam, the fear of Iblis, Jinns and anything else will leave us - nothing will touch the Believer unless Allah wills.

October 2006: Spain

Asslamo Allaikum,

I have posted this on other forums so it may differ slightly but the gist of the story is the same.

Four of us went backpacking in Spain last year and miscalculated the distance and got stranded in the middle of nowhere so couldn’t get a hotel/hostel or any place to stay for the night.

We had our camping gear so decided to pitch the tent but then saw a winding road up the hill and a derelict building so decided that it may be more comfortable to stay in the building instead of the tent.

We drove up and checked the building. It was old & grand and had a lift (elevator) but no water or electricity which suited us just fine because we just had to sleep and wake up for Faj’r. Since none of us are girls water wasn’t really an issue! :)

The building had broken walls so we decided to drive the car and hide it in the living car so that it’s not visible from the road. We decided to sleep around the car!

But none of us could sleep because we all felt like someone is whispering to us (although we didn’t talk or mention it to each other at the time)…we discovered that later in the morning when we spoke!

Around 01:30 in the morning, everything starting shaking and rattling violently (including the car) and the lift and the windows and the doors; we all got up and walked around and saw nothing!

Rattling continues and we went outside the building and looked downwards (for miles as we had clear view) and there was no one in sight!

Rattling continued for a few minutes and then stopped as suddenly as it had started!

During the whole time the car alarm never went off; so we tested the alarm by banging on the car lightly and it went OFF!

We read “Ayatul-Kursi, and the last two chapters of the Qur’aan” and went to sleep and never got bothered again!

Surely 4 of us were not dreaming, together!

We discovered in the morning that none of us had recited anything from the Qur’aan originally because we were dead tired & were just glad to find a place to stay! After reciting the Qur’aan nothing happened!

this is really freaky

During the holy month of ramzan my grandma passed away. in my family barely anyone wakes up in the morning for sehri. anywayz dat day i did. my grandma was quite old. if she walked just a few steps, she could barely breathe. she would take in loud gulps of air like huuhhhhhhh, huuhhhhhhhhhh. when i sat to eat,all of a sudden i heard her do dat.i was so freaked out! not even just once. it was so loud, and it was the breathing-so loud as if someone had put the stereo on full blast. neither my mom, my 2 bros or my sis could hear it. only me.after dat my mom read a dua and it was gone. thank god cuz it scared the heck out of me.but this wasnt the last time i heard it.

me and my younger brother were in my room one night.we were in the giggly mood. we were talking and laughing and acting crazy. then we turned out trhe lights and were going to sleep. all of a sudden i heard him throw a beaded necklace against the wall and i heard the beads-u no the sound. i screamed at him and told him to stop. he said it wasnt him. i turned on the lights and i saw NOTHING. i was like OKAY....then i heard a kid crying in my CLOSET! Yeah my closet.my lil bro could hear it too. we were so scared we couldnt move. then we heard my grandma.we both finally got the courage to get up and run to my moms room. my mom thought we were playing crazy. she said its probably the fan we got on. we said oh heck no we no what we heard. we were in my moms room and we could still hear my grandmas voice. loud i mean very loud. then we thought my brother was crying. we ran into his room. nope. remember no=one heard it except us. then my mom called someone she knew. she sent me into the dark hallway and told me to read a dua. and my gosh! i saw a black shadow go down our staircase..scary huh. i have so many stories that have happened with me. ill share em later i guess cuz my columns quite long. allah-hafiz

im sorry but i had always assumed you were a girl! but anyways i was wondering what by her majesty' app was.....

well anyways i have another story where i one night i was brushing my sis hair in the bathroom when me and my sis were look at "our" dark shadows at the window (it is bathroom windows so they are not clear but thick and blur) me and my sis were moving our head around just to see the shadows move with us ( the shadow was quite strange because both heads were perfectly round ...hmmm) well me and stopped moving our heads.... but the shadows didn't!!!!! we looked real close at the shadows they were actually outside the window!!!! and we looked up at two lighter shades of gray and we noticed those were our shadows. so eventually we decided our brothers were out to get us and ran upstairs to go get them from the balcony. and we saw they were all watching tv! now who could be in our back yard ( which was fenced off) the two being with the perfectly round bald heads we foolishly thought was us..... my sis told the story too her teacher (not telling her it happened in the bathroom) and the teacher was like that's how bathroom windows are! that is still strange because the bathroom windows make shadows concentrated and dark but does not give them a mind of their own!!!! we haven't been living at that house for five years now but my sis refers to it as the haunted house! i still don't know what happened that day...was it jinns...Allah u 'alam!!!!

Mosque in Virginia

Asslamo Allaikum,

My and my friend spent a night stranded in snow in Virginia in a Mosque and it was spooky and noisy.

Chased it all the way to the toilet and both of us saw the shower knob turn and water flowing out...

We turned it OFF

And then it turned and water started coming out.

Happened several times.

Shower knob turned a good 1 1/2 revolutions!

Pah your funny brother! What, it's like midnight and you're reading these?! I hope you recite the quran and stuff when you sleep.

And it's also not bad for anyone to have been scared with a Jinn encounter when they were little or something, cause it's easy to get scared at that age-I was so scared of the dark in those days! :D Especially when my mom told me stories of her grandma's encounter with the Jinns.

I'll post them later Inshallah.

I remember this story that my mom use to tell me when I was six years old. It has to do with my great Grandma.

Bismillah Heer Rahmaneer Raheem

My great grandma was a good Muslim. My mom told me that she was also able to see the Jinn.

And well, you guys know I'm Bagladeshi so this (obviously) happened in Bangladesh. The villages are surounded by forests, so that's how there are Jinn there, cause Jinns also stay in forests (I remember I saw a wolf-like black dog behing my grandma's house). And my great grandma got some fish from the pond some distance away from my grandma's house. When my great grandma came home with some fish to feed the family, she started cooking it. When she was cooking the fish, she saw a LARGE arm (with a hand) extend from the outside of the window and my great grandma knew it was a Jinn since she was the Orthadox kind of Muslim. So anyway the Jinn (it didn't show it's face, it's like the hand was talking but anyway it) told my great grandma to give it some fish. My great gran then told the Jinn that she was giving it and took one of the large spoons (the large dish like ones that villagers use in Bagladesh) and got some of the hot burning oil from the pot of cooking fish and then dumped the oil on the Jinn's hand and the Jinn screamed and it's hand moved out the window and was gone.

My mom told me some other stories but I'll post them later.

Wa Salam.

Assalam Allaykum,

There's someone I know who said they seen an ET shaped figure passing by their room, and also a black ball which circled around on their kitchen floor making an odd noise.
She is really too scared of the jinn. She really doesn't know what to do. At times, she doesn't like to stay alone in her room. At other times when she wants to read islamic books she is too scared to enter and stay in her room alone. She said when she prays she fears she'll get attacked by one, and at times when she says she acts bad, she fears Allah will send a jinn to attack her. Do you have any advice I can give to her. :astag: :astag:

Salaamalikum,

Aisha16......Inshallah this will help

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly:

The questioner is mistaken in saying that she has seen a jinn, because the jinn can see but they cannot be seen by us.

Al-Shaafa'i said:

“Whoever is of sound character and claims to have seen the jinn, his testimony is no longer valid, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

‘Verily, he and Qabeeluhu (his soldiers from the jinn or his tribe) see you from where you cannot see them’

[al-A’raaf 7:27]

– unless he is a Prophet.”

(Ahkaam al-Qur’aan, 2/195, 196)

Ibn Hazm said:

“The jinn are real, and they are creatures created by Allaah. Among them are kaafirs and believers. They can see us but we cannot see them. They eat, have children and die. Allaah says (interpretation of the meanings):

‘O you assembly of jinn and Mankind!’ [al-An’aam 6:130]

‘And the jinn, We created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire’ [al-Hijr 15:27]

‘”And of us some are Muslims (who have submitted to Allaah, after listening to this Qur’aan), and of us some are Al‑Qaasitoon (disbelievers those who have deviated from the Right Path)’. And whosoever has embraced Islam (i.e. has become a Muslim by submitting to Allaah), then such have sought the Right Path.

And as for the Qaasitoon (disbelievers who deviated from the Right Path), they shall be firewood for Hell”’[al-Jinn 72:14-15]

‘Verily, he and Qabeeluhu (his soldiers from the jinn or his tribe) see you from where you cannot see them’[al-A’raaf 7:27]

‘Will you then take him (Iblees) and his offspring as protectors and helpers rather than Me’[al-Kahf 18:50]

‘Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish’[al-Rahmaan 55:26]

‘Everyone shall taste death’[Aal ‘Imraan 3:185].”

(al-Muhallaa, 1/34/35)

Hence what the questioner has seen may be just her imagination or an illusion, or it may be jinn appearing in a form other than that with which Allaah has created them.

Secondly:

With regard to the jinn harming humans, this is proven to happen and it does happen. Protection against that is attained by reciting Qur’aan and adhkaar (dhikr) prescribed in sharee’ah.
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

“Undoubtedly the jinn can have a harmful effect on humans, and they could even kill them. They may harm a person by throwing stones at him, or by trying to terrify him, and other things that are proven in the Sunnah or indicated by real events. It was reported that the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) gave permission to one of his Companions to go to his wife during one of the military campaigns – I think it was the campaign of al-Khandaq – as he was a young man who had recently got married. When he reached his house, he found his wife standing at the door, and he objected to that. She said to him, ‘Go inside,’ so he went inside and found a snake curled up on the bed. He had a spear with him, so he stabbed it with the spear until it died, and at the same instant as the snake died the man also died. It was not known which of them died first, the snake or the man. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) heard of that, he forbade killing the harmless kinds of snakes that are found in houses, apart from those which are maimed or are streaked and malignant.

This indicates that the jinn may attack humans, and that they may harm them, as is known from real-life events. There are numerous reports which indicate that a man may come to a deserted area, and a stone may be thrown at him, but he does not see anybody, or he may hear voices or a rustling sound like the rustling of trees, and other things that may make him feel distressed and scared. A jinn may also enter the body of a human, either because of love or with the intention of harming him, or for some other reason. This is indicated in the aayah (interpretation of the meaning):

‘Those who eat Ribaa will not stand (on the Day of Resurrection) except like the standing of a person beaten by Shaytaan (Satan) leading him to insanity’[al-Baqarah 2:275]

In such cases, the jinn may speak from inside of that person and address the one who is reading verses from the Qur’aan over him; the reciter may take a promise from the jinn never to come back, and other things concerning which there are very many reports which are widespread among the people.

So the protection which will prevent the evil of the jinn is for a person to recite that which is narrated in the Sunnah as being effective in providing protection, such as Aayat al-Kurisy, for if a person recites Aayat al-Kursiy at night, he will continue to have protection from Allaah, and no shaytaan will come near him until morning. And Allaah is the Protector.’”

(Majmoo’ Fataawa al-Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, 1/287-288)

The Sunnah mentions adhkhaar (dhikr) by means of which one may gain protection from the shayaateen (devils). These include:

Seeking refuge with Allaah from the jinn:

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And if an evil whisper from Shaytaan (Satan) tries to turn you away (O Muhammad) (from doing good), then seek refuge in Allaah. Verily, He is the All Hearer, the All Knower”[Fussilat 41:36]

“And if an evil whisper comes to you from Shaytaan (Satan), then seek refuge with Allaah. Verily, He is All-Hearer, All-Knower”

[al-A’raaf 7:200]

It was narrated from Sulaymaan ibn Sard that two men were trading insults in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them), until the face of one of them turned red. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “I know a word which, if he were to say it, what he is suffering from would go away: ‘A’oodhu Billaahi min al-Shaytaan il-rajeem (I seek refuge with Allaah from the accursed Shaytaan).’”

(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3108; Muslim, 2610)

2 – Reciting al-Mi’wadhatayn (the last two Soorahs of the Qur’aan, al-Falaq and al-Naas).

It was narrated that Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to seek refuge with Allaah from the jinn and from the evil eye until the Mi’wadhatayn were revealed, and when they were revealed he started to recite them and not anything else.”

(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2058; he said it is hasan ghareeb. Also narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 5494; Ibn Maajah, 3511. The hadeeth was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani (may Allaah have mercy on him) in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 4905).

3 – Reciting Aayat al-Kursiy

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) put me in charge of guarding the zakaah of Ramadaan. Someone came to me and started grabbing handfuls of the food. I took hold of him and said, ‘I will take you to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).’ He said, ‘I will teach you some words by means of which Allaah will benefit you.’ I said, ‘What are they?’ He said, ‘When you go to your bed, recite this aayah (interpretation of the meaning): “Allaah! Laa ilaaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), Al-Hayyul-Qayyoom (the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists)…” [al-Baqarah 2:255] – until he completed the aayah. Then Allaah will appoint a guard for you who will stay with you and no shaytaan (devil) will come near you until morning.’ The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) asked me, ‘What did your prisoner do last night?’ I said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, he taught me something, and claimed that Allaah would benefit me by it.’ He said, ‘What was it?’ I said, ‘He taught me to recite Aayat al-Kursiy when I go to bed, and said that no shaytaan would come near me until morning, and that Allaah would appoint a guard for me who would stay with me.’ The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘He told you the truth, although he is an inveterate liar. That was the Shaytaan.’”

(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3101)

4 – Reciting Soorat al-Baqarah

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Do not make your houses like graves, for the Shaytaan runs away from a house in which Soorat al-Baqarah is recited.”(Narrated by Muslim, 780)

5 – The last verses of Soorat al-Baqarah

It was narrated that Abu Mas’ood al-Ansaari said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘Whoever recites the last two verses of Soorat al-Baqarah at night, that will suffice him.’” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 4723; Muslim, 807)

It was narrated from al-Nu’maan ibn Basheer (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah inscribed a book two thousand years before He created the heavens and the earth, from which the last two aayahs of Soorat al-Baqarah were revealed. If they are recited for three nights, no shaytaan (devil)will remain in the house).

(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2882. This hadeeth was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 1799).

6 – Reciting “Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahu’l-mulk wa lahu’l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer (There is no god except Allaah Alone with no partner or associate; His is the Sovereignty and His is the praise, and He is Able to do all things)” one hundred times.

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever says “Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahu’l-mulk wa lahu’l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer” one hundred times in the day, will have a reward equivalent to that of freeing ten slaves, one hundred hasanahs (good deeds) will be recorded for him, and one hundred sayi’ahs (bad deeds) will be erased from his record, and it will be protection for him from the Shaytaan for that day, until evening comes. No one could achieve any better than him except the one who does more than he did.”

(narrated by al-Bukhaari, 31119; Muslim, 2691)

7 – Remembering Allaah often (dhikr)

It was narrated from al-Haarith al-Ash’ari that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah commanded Yahyaa ibn Zakariyah (peace be upon him) five things to follow and to enjoin upon the Children of Israel… and he commanded them to remember Allaah, and the likeness of that is a man who was being pursued by the enemy, until he reached a strong fortress in which he found protection; similarly a man cannot find protection from the Shaytaan except by remembering Allaah…”

(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2863; he said it is hasan saheeh. The hadeeth was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 1724)

8 – The adhaan

It was narrated that Suhayl ibn Abi Saalih said: “My father sent me to Bani Haarithah, and there was with me a slave of ours, or a companion of ours. Someone called out his name from a garden, and the one who was with me looked into the garden and did not see anything. I mentioned that to my father, and he said, ‘If I had known that this was going to happen to you, I would not have sent you. But if you hear a voice then make the call for prayer, for I heard Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) narrating that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When the Shaytaan hears the call to prayer, he runs away fast.”’”(Narrated by Muslim, 389).

The word translated here as “runs away fast” may also mean “farting.”

9 – Reciting Qur’aan offers protection against the Shaytaan

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And when you (Muhammad) recite the Qur’aan, We put between you and those who believe not in the Hereafter, an invisible veil (or screen their hearts, so they hear or understand it not)[al-Israa’ 17:45]

And Allaah knows best.incho"; color:green">

assalamu aleykum,I know that Jinns can harm people when :

-they(people) abandon their salats(5 time praying)
-somebody is getting mad at smth. and starts yelling
-people devote themselves to the music, dancing, especially when men and women are in the same place
-somebody open or pour hot water/liquid without saying Bismillah before doing that
-walking with their aurats opened outside

And I don`t really know if it`s true or not,may Allah forgive me,but I`ve heard that Jinns can fall in love with a girl, and this way they bother and block their ways to get married,
wa Allahu Alam
