Fasting on Mondays

How many of you fast on Mondays? If so - what are the "rules" - eat before Fajr and break at Maghrib?

I read somewhere that the Prophet (pbuh) fasted on Mondays and Thursdays because thats when our deeds are sent to Allah(swt) so fasting adds to the "good" deeds column....

i also heard before that u can actually make the niyah for fasting after fajr ,with condition that u havent eaten or drink anything from fajr onwards. This is not applicable for fasting during ramadhan...

can some verify this...??

469.Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Fasting is a shield and a powerful fortress."
(Ahmad, Baihaqi).
(Hayaat-ul-Muslimeen. by Mohammad Ashraf Ali Thanvi).

466.Hadhrat Abu bin Umar (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Fasting and the Qu'ran will intercede on behalf of one on the Day of Qiyaamah. The Fast will proclaim: 'O Allah! I prevented him from eating at carnal desire. Therefore for my sake accept my intercession on his behalf.' The Qu'ran will proclaim: 'I prevented him from sleep. Therefore accept my intercession on his behalf.' The intercession of both will be accepted."
(Ahmad, Tibrani, Hakim).

There follow a number of ahaadeeth which encourage fasting on Mondays and Thursdays:

1 – It was narrated from Abu Qataadah al-Ansaari that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was asked about fasting on Mondays. He said: “On that day I was born, and on it the Revelation came to me.” Narrated by Muslim, 1162.

2 – It was narrated that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was keen to fast on Mondays and Thursdays. Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 745; al-Nasaa’i, 2361; Ibn Maajah, 1739; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1044.

3 – It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Deeds are shown (to Allaah) on Mondays and Thursdays, and I like my deeds to be shown when I am fasting.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 747; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1041.
