Former Syrian PM Riad Hijab: Iran is running Syria

The former Syrian Prime Minister Riad Hijab who defected from the regime of President Bashar al-Assad earlier this year says Russia - and particularly Iran - are now deciding policy in Syria.

I don't understand Iran nowadays. They support Bashar though he is killing his own people. At the same time they supply arms to Hamas. If Iranian Shia do not curse the sahaba (may Allah be pleased with all of them), we will have no problem working with them. That was the beggining (cursing of sahaba) of enmity between Sunni and Shia which reach the point of no return.

I wonder that an Islamic Republic had such close ties to the atheist Soviet Union, and vice-versa. Maybe my lack of knowledge on Syria causes me to look to oversimplify things, but I keep coming back to the Cold War.
