Subhanallah this was a test for the brother and the brother passed by intervening to try and protect the sister. If we ever see anything like this happening then all the brothers should intervene because if we saw our sisters being abused verbally or physically then would we not do anything about it?
Remember NOTHING happens without the will of Allah and no one can hurt us if Allah does not will it to happen and we Muslims are like a brotherhood so if our sisters or brother is being abused verbally or physically then we should intervene but try to be calm and not flare up the situation more than it is as we have to use hikmah (Wisdom) as Muslims.
Sister should also be careful when they are out and about particularly in high streets and shopping centres and NEVER to go in alley ways alone because those are VERY dangerous places.
