Evening all, the name is Artemis, Joe Artemis, I have no real religion, I believe there is a God/Goddess/Creator/Supreme being but I do not have any prrof of who or what he she or it may me be. (If He/She or it would like to pop in for a cuppa I would be quite happy to chat things over and if they provide a good case worship them).

I am of a scientific bent and thus tend to be curious and sceptical and a digger , and being a Tyke perhaps a bit too blunt.

If such a one is welcome then I wish you peace if not then I will bid you all a good night.

Welcome to the forum, Joe. :SMILY259:
Fire Away!! Release the blunt Questions!

We are more than happy to answer.

But first, a few questions and suggestions for you(just a warm up ;D)

Have you started reading the Qur'an yet?
If so, what do you think so far?
What do you know about Islam?
Are you aware of the scientific miracles in the Qur'an (which was revealed 1400 years ago)
Such as the Qur'an on Embryonic development, Big Bang, Geology, astronomy, Human Brain...etc
If not, here is a link that can help you:http://www.islam-guide.com/ch1-1.htm

What do you think about these facts?
And it is really wonderful to read (from the perspective of a Muslim who knows the Qur'an) , that you are searching for proof from God that convinces you he is worthy of worship...because, the Qur'an is exactly about that. Your mind has the right scientific bend, I must say. I may not be explaining well. But the fact is, the Qur'an speaks for itself. =]

Here's a link to an online version of The Qur'an: http://www.quranexplorer.com/Quran/Default.aspx
But I suggest you buy or get one from somewhere for ease of reading.

Take Care. And Peace be with you.

Thank you, yes I have started reading the Qu'ran, the Pickthall translation, the revised Pickthall translation, the Yusuf Ali translation.
For the scientific details, I am aware of some of the claims perhaps not all of them and I am trying to track them down and compare them with the knowledge extant at the age in the various civilisations and am trying to work on the probablities of this information being available in the Middle East at the appropriate time.
A prime problem is that I do not speak modern arabic never mind the version that was in use circa 700 ce, and especially the version which was in use in the trader caravans which was (as I understand it) where Mohammed was for much of his early life. Sorry starting to get up on my hobby horse and will chat for hours on it and I just do not have the time at the moment.

Welcome to the family JOE!

Like the sister said- Allah(god in arabic) is the greatest, theEternal, the absolute, the one and only.
He has no partner.
He begets not, nor is He begotten.
And there is none like him

Islam's Forgotten/Erased Contributions to science

"Prince Charles, Heir to the British Monarch in a public speech at Oxford University:“If there is much misunderstanding in the west about the nature of Islam, there is also much ignorance about the debt our own culture and civilisation owe to the Islamic world. It is a failure, which, I think, from the straight-jacket of history, which we have inherited. The medieval Islamic world. From Asia to the shores of the Atlantic, was a world where scholars and men of learning flourished. But because we have tended to see Islam as the enemy of the west, as an alien culture, society, and system of belief, we have tended to ignore or erase its great relevance to our own history”." (1)

.........................................................................

"George Sarton, considered to be the "father" of the history of science (2); payed tribute to Muslim Scientists in the "Introduction to the History of Science,"It will suffice here to evoke a few glorious names without contemporary equivalents in the West: Jabir ibn Haiyan, al-Kindi, al-Khwarizmi, al-Fargani, al-Razi, Thabit ibn Qurra, al-Battani, Hunain ibn Ishaq, al-Farabi, Ibrahim ibn Sinan, al-Masudi, al-Tabari, Abul Wafa, 'Ali ibn Abbas, Abul Qasim, Ibn al-Jazzar, al-Biruni, Ibn Sina, Ibn Yunus, al-Kashi, Ibn al-Haitham, 'Ali Ibn 'Isa al-Ghazali, al-zarqab, Omar Khayyam. A magnificent array of names which it would not be difficult to extend. If anyone tells you that the Middle Ages were scientifically sterile, just quote these men to him, all of whom flourished within a short period, 750 to 1100 A.D."" (1)
