Salam,
Do we have to be HANAFI, MALEKI, CHAFEI, etc ?
My personal answer is: definitely not.

Allah choose for us the name MUSLIMOUN then I'm muslim, you are muslim and FULL STOP. I never considred my self neither Hanafi nor Maleki, or anything else. I totaly respect the knowldge of these scholars and I just consider, for any question, the closet answer to the Quran and hadith.
It doesn't matter for me who is the scholar.
I'm just a MUSLIM.

Please brothers and sisters I need your advice on this issue.

Salaam brother,

I posted this on the other thread but thought I'd double post it here.

The first Muslims didn't have to worry about mahdabs because Rasool (pbuh) was right there to give an answer to any questions concening Islam. However once he died and so did the companions we only had the hadith's and the Quran to go off of. So some things, such as how to pray, are not in the Quran and there are different Hadiths (some weak some strong)

So the scholars such as Hanafi, did intense study of the the hadiths and spoke to people who may have known the companions and tried to get as clear as a picture as possible on how to interpret fiqh.

Th four different scholars said that they did not claim to have the perfect interpretations and that they would submit to each ther rather than declare their "correctness." (such was their humbleness) So after researching the different mahdabs I found that the Hanifi "felt" right when concerning the interpretation of fiqh and decided to follow it. This does not mean I am superior to my maliki/hanbali/shafi brothers and sisters. I just needed a consistent way to practice my deen and found the mahdabs the best way to do so.

Salamalaykum,

Brother I m srry i m not getting ur point properly.

To my lil knowledge all the four scholars what sister has mention above, said if any of there explanations get counters with Quran and Sunnah then throw it on the wall and follow Quran and Sunnah only.

So first u have to follow Quran and Sunah only, for some reason as sister given an example above we are not getting a clear view then we can look for this Scholars explanations.

No doubt I will say my self just Muslim rather then Hanafi/Shahfai/Maliki/Hambali.

This what I think of myself to my lil knowledge pls correct me if I m wrong.

Jazak Allah.

Question:
people believ 4 imam
my confusion is which one is right path and about (Jamat-al-muslimeen)

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

Allaah has made our worship based on His Book and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). The right way is to understand the texts of sharee’ah as they were understood by the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and their followers among the scholars who are qualified and prominent mujtahids. This includes the imaams whose sincerity, fairness and leadership in religion, knowledge, virtue, goodness and righteousness is a matter of record. The four imaams and founders of the schools of Islamic fiqh (Imaam Abu Haneefah, Imaam Maalik, Imaam al-Shaafa’i and Imaam Ahmad) – may Allaah have mercy on them all – all followed the texts of the Sharee’ah and their efforts were all focused on teaching and spreading sound Islamic knowledge. All of them were on the right path, and all were devoted followers of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). If mistakes happened, then the Sahaabah made mistakes too. The things to be followed in Sharee’ah are those for which evidence (daleel) is established. In some cases, some scholars may not have known of daleel whilst others did, but this does not mean that their knowledge and ability is to be discredited. All of them were seeking to find and propagate the truth. If a person wants to follow one of the Imaams and adopt his madhhab, then he should follow him in matters for which there is clear, sound daleel, for this is what is required in Islam, but he should not develop partisan or sectarian feelings towards anybody. It is not permissible for the Muslim to believe that he has to follow anybody in all that he says except the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).

The person who is suitably qualified can examine what the scholars said and see what is supported by sound daleel. The “rank and file” Muslim who does not know how to examine the evidence and weigh it up should follow a scholar whose religious commitment and knowledge he trusts, and act according to his fatwas. And Allaah knows best.

Salaam,

As far as I know there are no interpretations of the mahdabs that contradict the Quran. The tricky parts comes in with the hadiths. Some hadiths contradict and thats because we need to take in when they hadith was given.

See the method of prayer was never explained in the Quran, it doesn't even say to pray five times a day, that was prescribed in hadith. So some hadith state to pray at specific times while others tell a different times. So which at what time do you pray? Both hadiths tell of a specific time that Rasool (pbuh) prayed but they are different. And this is where the differences of scholarly interpretation come in.

The reason people choose different mahdabs (aside from being born into a family that practices said mahdab) is that they felt that particular interpretation is the closest to the hadith and Quran. However there is no dispute among those of us that practice a particular mahdab, we all know that one scholar may be more correct than the enxt, we just aren't 100% sure which one it is.

I think the most suitable word for the difference of opinion should not be madhab it should be school of thoughts. madhab is something very deep.

If you are really intrested to know the exact answer then i will prefer a book

Difference Of Opinion In Fiqh by Shah waliyullah dehlwi.

He is a very famous scholar of 18th century in india.
