My name is justin, im from virginia.
I'm thinking strongly about converting to Islam, even though there are not many Muslims in my city.
I have seen some of them around while driving with my family, next time i see one i will speak to them about the nation.
My main concern is that my family wont like MY choice.
and another concern is, i dont know where to get a koran from, i filled out some forms on websites to recive a free one via mail,so hopefully they come.
but untill then do you all know about e-korans?

Hi Justin! I'm also a convert and my family did not approve. Just remember that Allah only tests the people that have strong enough faith to bear it and He tests those that He loves! So, if you are patient with dealing with your family and remember that although we are supposed to please our parents, we should not please them at the expense of the pleasure of Allah.

Masha'Allah (As God has willed) there are lots of Qurans online. Here is just one link: http://www.islamicity.com/mosque/SURAI.HTM

Also, you can check this link Insha'Allah (God willing) to see if maybe there is a mosque that you don't know of in your area

Well because, my mom and her brothers and sisters grew up in a strict christian house hold, their father, my grandfather(died before i was born) was a preacher, and the same goes for my dad's side of the family. So i dont know if they will really approve of my choice, you know?

Online Quran!

Salam Justin, please visit the site WWW.quranexplorer.com the surahs (verses) are in English and Arabic ( helps you learn the language). It's easier to listen sometimes than to find the time to read. This is great until you find a Quran. I think Shaik Yusuf Estes gives them away on his websites...try www.islamalways and see. I am a mom of five and your parents will eventually see the change Islam makes in you and they will be so proud!

Hello, Justin

Welcome to TTI & to Islam (God willing). There are plenty of Qura'an website out there but remeber, Qura'an in English is only a translation.

I generally use this website which is essentially in Arabic although it has translation. I think someone with English as a first language might advice you better about an all English webiste.

http://quran.muslim-web.com/

I personally believe that religious Christians are as close to Islam as anybody can get. Despite all friction & conflict between the two groups, they are very similar in many regards. I hope that you will be the door of guidance to your family.

Asalaam'alikum brother Justin,

Welcome to our global community. We hope to see you participate in this interactive & dynamic forum.

I am happy to see you chose Islam as your way of life. Despite what the media portrays of Muslims, it is best to study the Quran & Sunnah (actions & sayings of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him) and come with your OWN conclusion. Many people get caught in the trap of studying Muslims instead of studying Islam and it's simple, beautiful beliefs & teachings.

Since you're coming from a conservative Christian family perhaps you can show them Yusuf Estes video. He was a strict Christian preacher but all praise due to God, he reverted to Islam and is now a great Muslim scholar. Here is the link:

http://www.turntoislam.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52

There is also Youtube & Google videos on comparative religion by Dr. Zakir Naik & Ahmed Deedat (may peace be upon him). Witness their logic & rational (not to mention their in depth knowledge of the Bible & Chrisitianity) as they take on well known Christians, including preachers & priests. Hands down, they are the best scholars of our time, in my humble opinion.

Hello.

First of all, if you know what the Truth is, you should follow it. No matter what your family says or upon what your ancestors were. For verily, the Truth from the Creator of all creation has to be obeyed even if all of humanity would be against you. For verily, He will guide you and He will be sufficient for you.

Secondly, you have to learn about Islaam. The most important thing in Islaam is Tawheed (Oneness of Allaah (God)). "Laa ilaaha illallaah" (none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah). And you have to know why Islaam is the Truth from the Creator of the heavens and the earth. And that Muhammad Ibn 'Abdullaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is the last Messenger of Allaah (Almighty God).

Very important, interesting and beneficial lectures. You must listen/watch them! It'll make things very clear. So this is the first which I advise you to watch/listen to.
